:sad1: I'm dreading our trip. Or maybe its pre-trip jitters. We leave in two weeks. All along I've been pretty excited/happy/geeked and planning like I've never planned before. I was even dreaming about Disney! (how pathetic!) But the reality is hitting me. I'm worried about the weather. No one in our family likes the heat. For some reason, I thought when we booked it that the end of Sept would be cooling off a bit, but everywhere I read says its going to be HOT. The baby doesn't like to be in the stroller very long, so I'll end up wearing him in the sling. Its way too late to cancel now.

And, I just read that the end of Sept is peak season for love bugs. My dd hates all kinds of bugs, and will flip out if she sees flocks of them everywhere.

Please, help me get excited again! Its not going to be absolutly miserable, is it? It'll be bareable, right? Send pixie dust this way please!

Thanks.

I'm not going to sugar coat it. In all likelihood it's gonna be hot and humid. You have time to prepare... plan for some breaks to cool off in air conditioned rides and restaurants. Go back to your hotel for a swim around 1pm during the hot part of the day.

Be prepared and you'll still have a great time. :)

I think that it's a rollercoaster ride sometimes! I'm leaving tomorrow and I'm miserable right now- came here to cheer up. (I'm sure any second I will be bouncing off the walls again....) Any vacation is a lot of work and a whole lot of "what if's." The good news is that no matter what, you will be spending some quality time with your family. So don't worry and avoid posts that may bring you down!! Here is some pixie dustpixiedust:

You have a beautiful daughter by the way!!

I usually have a few days like this before a trip - where I'm sure that everything is going to go wrong!

Just breathe, and rest assured that that you'll have fun. It's Disney! Just do what feels right in each moment. If that's taking a break by the pool or hanging out somewhere air conditioned for the afternoon, so be it.

I always tell myself things don't have to go exactly as planned to have a "perfect" vacation.

I'm going in 9 days, and I couldn't be more excited. Two weeks ago I was freaking out, though!

I think this happens to most of us . . . :goodvibes

Here's that pixie dust you wanted pixiedust: !!!

Relax, you're going to have a FAB time!!! :goodvibes

The only thing worse than heat is heat AND crowds. You are going at a great time as far as crowds. Heat is one of my least favorite things, yet I go in Sept every year and I have noticed that each week in Sept seems to cool off a bit more than the previous week. Keep hydrated, use a misty fan and ENJOY!

Aww, I sure hope things will start looking up. I have been very sad about this trip b/c after this year dh will be back in school and we will not get to go again for a while. I have had the best time looking forward to this trip and now that it is here I am SOOO excited but also sad that it will be over soon.

Hopefully the heat will not be too hard on us all going soon and we can have a great time. Just duck into shops, stop and get drinks, etc.. It will not be too bad.

I was scared of seeing those bugs last year but they really were not bad at all!

 Cheer up!

Last year August was our first visit in the summer heat -- after years of vowing never, who would do that, definitely not fun. Well, we can only go in the summer now & it was hot & humid. It was crowded. We had a fabulous time.

You're just stressing right now & you have to let it go & trust that things are going to be great. Crowds should be smaller & Disney has plenty of ways to beat the heat. You've been planning, you know what to do -- all the time on these boards will prove to be very valuable.

I'm guessing your little one might sit still for the stroller a bit more than normal w/ all the distractions around to do the entertaining for you.

Don't forget when you arrive & begin your touring, recognize that you're finally there for the trip you've been waiting & planning for, remember to be grateful that you have the opportunity to be there & arrived safely, live in the moment & savor each & every one.

Have a magical trip & come back & brag to everyone here just how wonderful it was & how perfectly you planned it! :cheer2:

If you are going to dread a WDW trip then why go at all?

You are already telling yourself you wont have a good time.

heat, rain, etc. but still lots of fun--look at the weather in the AM and plan your day accordingly. Also, as a FLA native, i can tell you that end of Sept is WAY better than end of Aug. and parks should not be crowded at all.
Plan to go early to parks and if it is too hot, come back to room to rest and/or go to the pool.
Give the baby some new toys to clip on the stroller---and try to wear the sling when you go indoors to stuff with AC--have fun and don't try to "do" too much and you'll have a great time!

Give it a try this time and if you don't like it just go i the cooler months. That is when we go. I hate the heat.

It will be ok! Just remember: WDW isn't going anywhere, you can (and will) come back again. Take a look at your park maps, come on, I know you got 'em! Look at one of the tour guides and pick the absolute must see's this trip. Then, what I'd really like to do's and then the well, if we have time....you know, prioritize. Go in the am, go back to the hotel to hang in your room, swim, etc. Go back to a park for the fireworks if you want. Just remember, you don't have to do everything, take it easy. Take a couple days this week to freak out and worry, get it all out! Then you will have room to be excited!;)
Pixie dust for you: :wizard: pixiedust:

I am freaking out too.We also leave in 2 weeks and I don't know what I was thinking to take daughter out of school for 6 days. She just started 1st grade today and they are off 2 days next week and then she wll go 4 days before I take her out for 6.Also the school doesn't excuse vacation absences and I don't know if I should tell the truth to try to get her work before hand or just call her in as a family emergency and get the work when we get back.We went last year same time but she only missed 4 days due to the jewish holiday.

We just returned from Disney 2 days ago, I never thought we would take a trip in Aug. but the power of free dining willed us to go. We followed some tips I picked up on the dis about staying cool and it helped. We walked on the shady side of the street, cooled off going in and out of attractions, drank plenty of water, eat lunch in the a/c (I was surprised to see so many people at MGM sitting outside eating in the heat) we brought a WalMart spray fan with us but it broke before getting to us it) We enjoyed an icepop break in the shade, go into the park at ropedrop and head back to the hotel in the afternoon for a swim or rest in the room. I was very surprised how well our trip went. We went in 2005 sept/oct we were able to do so much because of the low crowd level and did not feel overheated. Don't worry your trip will be great! :) Linda

I would just tell the truth, when they see her tan and know she was absent and your daughter is asked by her teacher or someone else she will tell them where she went anyhow. I took my ds out in 2005 and sent a note in a week ahead of time, he received some work ahead of time and some when he came home. Some teachers do not care for this but we had a great trip and ds still had good grades. It's important to have quality family time as well and your children don't stay young forever. Linda :)

When the 5 week marker hit, I was so excited I felt like I was gonna burst. That's all I thought about was WDW. I kept imaging scenes there that would fill me up with magic. I think I've worn myself out. Lately, I'm still excited, but just...not as.

I hope I get super excited again right before we go!

A hot week at Disney is a better than a cool week anywhere else! :lmao:

We went the end of sept/beg of october last year, and are going again in three weeks so never fear! The weather was not that bad. It was humid, but nothing intolerable imo. Just stay hydrated, plan for breaks, and make use of the pool/water parks. The nights were absolutely beautiful! So if you're really anti-heat, maybe sleep in and make use of late magic hours if you're staying on site?

The lovebugs were a pain, and my DD is ten, horrible freak out about bugs of any kind, but by the second day she was so annoyed with them, she was just flicking them away instead of freaking out when she saw them.

I would say just take your time, take time outs to remember why you're there, enjoy the little things. Don't feel you have to complete everything in a certain amount of time. If you get hot or tired, just relax or do an indoor ride or show you can take the baby in.

You'll love it, you really will. It'll go by too fast and you'll be trying to plan another trip before you know it! Good luck! :goodvibes

September is still hot and humid, but just tell yourself it's probably just a tad better than July and August, definitely crowd wise!! As far as the lovebugs whenever I drive up to Orlando from Miami and the lovebugs are around the front of my car becomes a nasty dead bug mess, and I've driven through some spots mostly in rural parts where they were all over the place, but I've never seen them to be that much of an annoyance at the parks!!If you want better weather on your next trip plan between mid October until pretty much April,May is hot but it's still the last month of dry season so it's not that bad, once you get to June it goes downhill. But don't worry so much and enjoy your trip!!

I agree to tell the truth. If you don't, then you'll be asking your DD to lie (or hoping she just won't talk about it!), and that's not any fun. I'm pulling my DD7 out for a week, just like we did last time - she's a *great* student, and the reality for us is that the last week in September is only time my DH can get guaranteed vacation time, so it's now or never. Family vacation time is every bit as important as school is, IMO.

As for dreading it - we live in SoCal (near DL/DCA), and the first time we went to WDW, I was nearly kicking myself for agreeing to go to *Florida* in September! I really thought it was going to be hot, humid, buggy, crowded and miserable. We found that the only bugs were lovebugs (and once we found they didn't bite, that was fine), it was not nearly as crowded as we're used to at DL, and while it was hot and extremely humid (to us), it was manageable. Mostly we were so entertained that we just didn't notice it much. We brought in our own bottles of water and stayed hydrated all day.

Our younger DD was 14mo at the time, not walking yet, and I ended up wearing her quite a lot - far more than I ever would at home. The only thing I kicked myself about in that department was not just buying the darned Ergo/BeccoBaby that I wanted because *surely* I wouldn't need one. HA! I do not recommend trying to use a Hip Hammock for such extended periods. Otherwise, she did great at napping in the stroller and the sights kept her very entertained.
