I'm dreading our trip

We will be at Disney on the 19th, and I think my head might explode if I try to think about it!:upsidedow

I'm sure everything is planned and I know everything will be wonderful, but I just can't think about it -- I'm toooooo excited!!!! :yay:

It's tough when you plan something for a year and then you realize that it's going to be over in a couple weeks -- sometimes I forget that I haven't even gone yet...

The pre-Disney jitters, gotta love 'em....

We are going to have soooooo much fun!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Add me to the list as well!

When i booked the trip i was unaware of the love bug situation, I knew it would be hot but since DH is looking forward to lounging at the pool i figured the heat wouldnt matter.

My question to anyone who knows...as previously stated DH wants to lounge at the pool, IF the love bugs are there is that going to be an issue for him?

Brandy, I've been where you are, and I bet a bunch more around here have, too. It's easy to be super excited when we're planning the trip, because it's so far off, that we can't imagine anything going wrong. The weather should be fine. We'll be careful to not get sick. The crowds should be manageable. Etc.... As we get close, the realization starts setting in that things can and probably will go unexpectedly. It's a fact of life. The trick is to remember it's our frame of mind that determines how great a time we will or won't have. Life is what you make it.

I suggest you get a lot of rest before you leave, and make sure you get plenty of rest while you're there as well. A rested body can do wonders for the mind. Plan for a few things to go wrong, and decide on some solutions before you get there. Be confident that you will be able to handle some of the unexpected's. You've got a couple of little ones that will need a bit of extra attention from you, since they won't be able to go on as many rides as your 5 yr old. Plan for some character greetings or other activities close by the ride your 5 yr old and other parent goes on. There are lots of diversions, such as Ariels Grotto, etc...Plan to take your 5 month old out of the stroller every time you stop, so you can try to have her in the stroller while your walking. My children were and still are little heaters, and I wouldn't want to carry them next to me on a hot day for long periods of time. Above all, split the hard stuff with your husband!!!!

As for the love bugs. There are definately more outside the parks than inside. My daughter HATES bugs, and is even afraid of those little black sugar ants :confused3. She was, however, intrigued by the love bugs. You might want to try not making a big deal about avoiding them, and in fact search them out to watch them, while their 'snuggling'!

Remember, as another poster stated, enjoy each moment while you're there. Pay attention to those moments, and appreciate the magic that especially your 5 yr old will absorb. Try to see it through his eyes. You WILL have great time, because YOU want to have a great time. That's all there is to it. Oh, and pixiedust:

Now, go and have a blast, and don't forget to report back on how fabulous it was!:wave2:

My question to anyone who knows...as previously stated DH wants to lounge at the pool, IF the love bugs are there is that going to be an issue for him?

The love bugs don't really do anything -- there are just a lot of them, lying around, um, loving each other... In my experience they don't bite or even bother much with people. They are just there. I didn't see many at the parks, there were a ton of them at the resort (CBR). I don't think they would be any bother at the pool, I don't remember ever having to swat one away.

Have fun!! :cool1:

I'm hoping too! We leave in 12 days. It was record heat today in the seacoast of NH, and the idea of walking around outside in weather like today....well, bleck and no thanks. The friends we're going with went down last year and it was record setting heat down there...they still had fun, but just paced themselves. Luckily for us, we have 2 TS ADR's per day, plus plan on daily swim and nap breaks at the pool...we are mainly planning our park time for early morning, and then again after our early dinner ressies (so 6pmish) This will help us avoid the blazing midday heat.

Lots of water and ice cream breaks!

Hi everyone!!!!!!

I just want to say it is so good to hear other people feel the same way. I am so worried about this trip that I am having trouble getting excited.
It helps so much to read suggestions and comments. I have learned a lot and hope to keep learning. My biggest problem is the lovebugs. My daughter about a month ago developed an intense fear of bugs. Sometimes she won't leave the house. By coming on this board and doing research I have learned a lot.

I would like to pass it on to anybody who needs it. I read to wear medium to darker colors as they are attracted to light colors and white. The bugs come out usually about 10:00 a.m. quiet down early afternoon then come back out befor sunset. At night they just lay and vegitate. These bugs don't like fans so it was suggested to have a fan blowing around you. I can't vouch for any of it but I am willing to try.

I hope all of us have a wonderful trip!!!!!!!!!!! I leave on 9-9.::yay:

Wife and I have been to WDW 3 times in Mid September and never found it to be overly hot. Yes you will have some warm days but you will have more comfortable days. We have always noticed a nice breeze every time we go. We live in MN so it is a nice treat to have the warmer weather because it never fails when we get back we fly into cold rainy weather and that last for at least 3 days after we get back. You will not have the crowds to deal with, crowds will make it seem much warmer then what it is. Love bugs when you get in around the airport you will notice them but at Disney they are almost non existent, they must use a bug spray. You will have a blast

Oh my goodness I thought it was just me being crazy.... We leave in 2 weeks and the past day or two I have begin to worry. The weather-the crowds-my dogs (1 of them has seizures and is the stress of being away from home gonna cause one) and mainly the stupid swine flu. My son is in highschool and I am around children everyday so I feel like we are sitting targets to catch the dreaded flu. I am now thinking what if we get there and then get sick that would be terrible or what if we get sick right before we are schedule to go--what should you do reschedule-cancel? So you can see that my mind is going fast.. I am glad to know I am not alone in this even though it sounds silly.

Honestly, I would stop worrying about the love bugs pronto. I've lived in Florida for 9 years, and I work outside everyday as an archaeologist, and I've never run into the swarms of love bugs reported by people on this site, especially not in the parks. There may be a few, but they are far between. They will not swarm you at the pool, you will not be walking through clouds of them in the parks, you will be fine! :thumbsup2 You may notice them squashed on your car, if you drive around property, but that will likely be your greatest encounter with them.

The way some people talk about love bugs, it reminds me of the clips from the Sci-Fi drive in! ;)

It also will be hot, its not going to be a balmy 72 degrees, but the dreaded "Africa Hot" , which can melt flesh off your body, will be over. If you stay hydrated and get out of the heat when you can, you will have a wonderful trip! Its time to stop stressing and start dancing, because YOU'RE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!! :woohoo: :cool1:

Oh My!!!!!!!!!!! This is great therapy.

I started thinking about getting sick also. My dad came down with something and I saw him the day before. My cat got sick a couple of weeks ago and I have been worried. I found somebody to keep a close eye on her that helps. My DH is ready to strangle me because I worry to much. The one thing I am not worried about is the heat.

I figure I do my best, put the rest in faith and see what happens.

The one thing I am learning from this board is go with the flow. Easier said then done.

I hope anybody who is nervous before their trip finds peace . Enjoy :littleangel:

I will tell you a short little short that will depict the magic and joy of Disney. DH and I (back when we were just engaged) went to Dsiney in Oct 2006. We were there the first half of the month and every morning the weather man would say how we were dealing with RECORD BREAKING HIGHS for the month of October. Needless to say it was hot. To add to the heat, I had caught a cold and was sick on top of it. I remember being sick, but I never remember being miserable or unhappy or upset, until the day we went to Universal. By 1:00 I had had enough Universal (it just wasn't Disney!!). That evening we went to MNSSHP and it was like coming home! :lovestruc

I guess what I am trying to say is that even though I was sick the magic of Disney had taken me over and I never remember the bad parks of the trip. More than likely it will be hot, however you'll be in DISNEY!! and the magic of Disney can work wonders and make miracles. :cloud9: Chances are you won't even notice the heat, we didn't and it was HOT when we were there (Disney is good about keeping their ques cool with mists and fans). Your children will be so excited to be there and to see Mickey they won't even realize anything else. And you will also be so happy to be there with your family that everything will just seem perfect. I don't have children of my own, however I love to see the looks on kids faces when the see the parade, or when Mickey is right in front of them, or the fireworks going off. I mean they get to me and make me feel like a kid again, to see children experiencing it's just so cool I can't wait till DH and I bring our own kids.

No worries!!! Everything will just be perfect because it's DISNEY!!!!:goodvibes

PS- there are ways to combat some of you problems: 1-get a sunblock with bug repellent (Bull Frog and Coppertone are two that I hear are good)
2-Keep hydrated and don't forget to take a break in the middle of the day. Go back to the hotel and swim or nap.
3-Ask you husband to share the responsibility of carrying around the youngin'.
4-Try to take advantage of EMH as it will be cooler in the AM (and the PM if the kiddies can make it)
5-Don'r forget to have FUN!!!

I didn't read all the posts in this thread so I might be repeating some of the things other people said. We do not like the heat at all either. We went at the end of Oct. last year. It wasn't too bad. It did get hot on some days and a bit humid. But anyways, end of Sept early Oct. will at least be cooler and a bit less humid than the summer months. The weather forcasting far out is often not that accurate.

My dd is scared to death of bugs too. We went at the Beginning of Oct. last year and they were pretty much only bad one morning at the bus stop. There was a lot of screaming and freeking out but for the rest of the week everything was just fine.

There are lots of air conditioned places in the parks. The crowds should be thin so you won't have to wait in line for rides that long. You will end up mostly being on air conditioned buildings for rides or in air conditioned restaurants. The buses are all air conditioned as well. There is also lots of shady areas.

some basic tips:
Go early in the morning, you can get a lot done quickly and be out of the parks before the heat hits.

Take a small mister bottle (like a small travel hair spray bottle) for everyone and a little fan. Or just buy a mister fan.

Take a break in the afternoon. Hit the pools or just take a nice long nap.
Head back in the evening.

Take advantage of the morning and evening extra magic hours. It is a lot cooler in the mornings and the evenings.

Get free ice water from the counter service places. Bring some single serve crystal light packs or kool aid packs to make it taste better.

You could plan table service meals during the high period of heat so you know you will be in the nice ac for an hour or more. Also, a lot of Counter Service restaurants have AC too.

Hope this helps.

awesome, two year threadbump!!! I thought there was some major timewarpy thing happenin, I'm thinkin "Sept 6?? Isn't today only the 5th?" ahahaha;)

If you're really concerned, you could see if your family doc will write a script for one of the anti-virals to take with you just in case (probably will require an appt.). I used to work at a family practice, and the doc would usually do this for established patients if they were were going out of town, etc. Just an idea to maybe lessen your stress level. Be sure to keep using those standard precautions as well. :thumbsup2

I am freaking out too.We also leave in 2 weeks and I don't know what I was thinking to take daughter out of school for 6 days. She just started 1st grade today and they are off 2 days next week and then she wll go 4 days before I take her out for 6.Also the school doesn't excuse vacation absences and I don't know if I should tell the truth to try to get her work before hand or just call her in as a family emergency and get the work when we get back.We went last year same time but she only missed 4 days due to the jewish holiday.

I am taking my daughter out also - she is in 7th grade and will be missing 6 days. I figured the best thing to do is be honest and confront them directly. I typed up the dates, explained it's family reunion, said I understand how important attendances is but, blah blah blah . . . I gave it to each teacher personally and said "I know this is wrong, but I am taking her out of school .. ." Every teacher had a good attitude toward it and now I have a load of my chest. :)

Thank you I may check into that. I didn't even think of that! I know my husband and son are tired of hearing me say wash your hands-wash your hands-wash your hands!!:rotfl:

The very first year I brought my daughter (2006) we went at the very end of September, got onto the ME and saw these odd looking bugs connected swarming everything. It was ridiculous! We were later told they were love bugs and it was mating season and a really intense mating season. My DD was 9 at the time, and she absolutely hates bugs. It doesn't matter if they're harmful or not. If they're in her hair or on her, she's a beast about it. I will be honest. There were a lot of them that year, flocking, swarming. We noticed them mostly at the bus stop and we actually had to leave AK because they were so bad. That being said, by the second day, my daughter didn't even bother with them anymore. She still hates bugs, but quickly realized that her time at Disney would be better spent enjoying the fact she was there rather than flipping out over bugs. If you stay happy and calm, chances are she will too! :)

It is hot, so just take a mister with you to cool off. Get free ice at the CS stations and fill up with water to refresh. It's Disney so you will have a wonderful time even if there is heat, rain, snow, hurricane ect. Even if bugs come out or a ride breaks down. There's just no way to have a bad time there!!! :goodvibes Just go with the flow and all will be well.

I don't remember the lovebugs being that bad. I think they're much worse in May. Have fun!!!!!!!!!
