I'm Boycotting WCC

Okay, I've read about the antics and whatnot, but what's this about humiliating people are reducing kids to tears? I'm just curious. I've got an ADR there in September, and plan on giving the restaurant a fair shake, but I was just wondering what people had seen occur?

I actually witnessed this first hand, but I think it had more to do with the temperment of the little girl who squalled than the antics of the servers. She'd asked for catsup, and when the server bellowed "catsup!!!!!" she just burst out crying. And the flood of bottles coming her way didn't help.

The server, a young lady, tried to make it OK, but the damage was done. It always seemed to me that the servers could get a pretty good read on how rambunctuous a party might be. I loved it.

I dunno ... if someone is a sensitive soul, not into roleplaying, and if noise bothers you, I don't think WCC is the place for 'em. Or perhaps it is now.

I'd recommend most anyone give it a try once.

Mariposa, we used to live in Panama City, back when the earth's crust was still cooling. We loved it then, and I miss it even today.

What we have witnessed is shy children who parents asked the server to and the hostess to please respect that this child was shy and did not wish to interact. This was like the green light to humilate this kid to tears. The server told the entire restaurant the kid, a young boy about 8, did not want to play. And then instructed to them to shout at him in unison, You Aint That Special, he fled the restaurant in tears, the parents were livid.

Of course it would be due to guest complaints and I have seen them humilate kids to the point of tears, so yes some of it was getting a little intense and I sure many have complained.

Think of it this way, the majority of people on here on that really like the WCC probably don't even stay there.

But many guests, probably not DISers, and Yes there are other people out there ;), that stay there don't want to be exposed to this on a daily basis. Not everyone that goes to Disney eats most of their meals away from their resort. I mean when you think about it WL has Roaring Forks, Artist's Pointe (very expensive) and WCC. Many guests want to eat their meals at their resort.

If this restaurant was at a park, I would say if you don't like it avoid it, but I am not sure that is fair to the guests actually staying at the WL.

We have had many fun meals at WCC and enjoyed the antics as much as anyone, but when a guest has a child reduced to sobs due to this, I do think some changes are in order.

I really wish they had a seperate dining area for those wishing to enjoy the food without the interaction.

This is exactly how I feel about it. I'm staying at the WL and really prefer not to have all the ruckus when I'm trying to relax after a long day at the parks. I just want a (reasonably priced) place to go for a quiet meal within my resort. I can't miss what I've never experienced.

Oh well.

We just never quite did WCC and it was the last off our list nearly every time simpy because the antics weren't guaranteed. And it seemed to me like it was pretty much just barbeque and we can get good barbeque at the flame tree. Now that the antics are gone, I see no reason to do WCC. I think those that liked the antics should write to Disney.

Don't get me wrong, we love the WCC...but one year we had a room in the center of the lodge, and boy was it loud every night. We never complained because we experienced the fun, and were always like other are enjoying it too. But with a small child it was tough, we made sure we did courtyard view after that.

I wonder if the "Powers that Be" heard as much or more complaints about the changes than the complaints that caused the changes...

If they would be sorry that they ever changed it at all?

So if everyone would write them a letter or copied all the threads about WCC and sent them?

How horrible! I would be livid as well. That just doesn't seem very Disneyesque! :confused3

We're trying it for the first time in October...I'm nervous and hope we get a lively waiter.

I do not agree with humiliating a child of 8 after the parents asked not to. That doesn't seem like Disney and I would be furious...they would be hearing from me about that one!

So many complain about the far seating at the end of WCC that I think they ended up not using it anymore. This is too bad really as it makes the wait time much longer. When we ate there for Mother's Day we would have been more than willing to take that seating but the doors were closed and it is no longer used (I was told due to guest complaints). This would be a very good option for those that wish to avoid the antics if only they would allow it to be used.

If you would like to complain, then please write them or email them. Copying threads about the discussion will not hold any weight with them.

It's just like the old villains character meal. If Disney gets so many complaints about it, it does not justify keeping it going the way it is. They have to cater to ALL guests, not just the super fans who frequent these boards.

Kids/Families unhappy = changes

I do not mind the antics being gone - but why remove the pony races ?
Only the kids who want to participate do the pony races, no on gets hurt, great pictures of the kids on 'ponies' for the family.

I hope they still have pony races when we go at the end of June.

Will they still do a cupcake for my daughters birthday ?

I've never eaten at the WCC but was planning on doing breakfast on our checkout day. Parlty because I heard so much about the fun activites and the food sounds pretty decent also. And I remember on many dining reviews that this wonderfl Bobby was mentioned. I remembered reading Zurgswifes trip report (I think or dining review) where the picture that is in her sig was taken. I don't remember all of it but basiclly he sounds like a wonderful, fun, engaging person who seemed like he enjoyed his job and the customer interaction. Many people wouldn't want to be a waiter, but Bobby sounds like he enjoyed every minute. So does anyone know if he has plans to move to another dining establishment. Or maybe doing one of the shows...he sound like he would be well suited for it. Guess I'll cancel my ADR now.

But I do understand that resort guests were upset. You pay quite a bit to stay at a Deluxe resort, which is a bit more upscale and not as ummmmm colorful and frantic as a Value resort. Still sorry to hear about the changes.

It was open in May. DH has "issues" with being looked at, so I asked for a "milder" server. They sat us out on the patio type area, which we loved, we could see through the lobby and out the big windows.

Our server seemed a little nervous being silly....I think he was new. But that was okay....the kids loved him. They were happy with the napkin and straws routine. My cell also went off during dinner...and he stood there for a few and finally asked "you going to answer that?" LoL I told him I knew better..and he told me "good answer!" :teeth:

The service was great, we could see the action without being the action. I was going to go back in Feb with just the kids so we could "play" without DH being mortified....but now I'll have to rethink it. :confused3

It is a shame they could not transplant the servers and their antics to another restaurant somewhere in the parks where it would not bother people in the hotel. :guilty:

I am so sad to hear that Bobby is leaving. He was the greatest waiter!! We had so much fun with him. Our last meal at WCC was in early March and I noticed that things weren't quite so loud but they did still have the pony races and the ketchup and there was even a few sing-alongs. We are really gonna miss Bobby. If anyone hears where he is going, please let the rest of us know so we can dine with him on future trips!

We were there two weeks ago for the first time. There was a lot of antics going on. I LOVED the pony race. And then they made the kids do a whole bunch of things to "earn" their prize. We also had to HEE HAW and twirl our napkins to make the kids run faster.

Sammie -

I think scraptoons reference to copying threads was to copying a thread such as this & then sending the copied thread in an e-mail to WDW Guest Communications.
I'm not sure that is possible because the e-mailer might have to get permission from all the posters & also from The DIS to send a thread on to WDW. But I could be wrong :confused3

Individual e-mails or letters from guests would probably be best and get the most notice from management.

agnes!

I hope they don't change things too much. We went there for the first time last August. Dh was in a very grumpy mood, and ds was asleep. They first sat us in the back, and when I realized we wouldn't be around the action I asked if we could be moved. They moved us to the main room, and we all had a ball. DH's grumpy mood was gone by the end of the evening, and we all had a great time. We were looking forward to going back this August. Our favorite used to be Ohana's, but with the new changes we have decided not to go back. I really don't want to have to cross WCC off our list too.
