I'm already disappointed in Aulani

Ok, I know it doesn't say sleeper chair in a one bedroom but I've got 3 people in one and four people in the other, none of who want to sleep togeher. I'm a bit disappointed in that DVC doesn't seem to want to recognize that families and others travel together that aren't the typical couple with two young kids.

If there was a sleeper chair in those units, we could make it work but since they don't, and all of us are too big apparently for the fold down bed, I don't see any other option than air mattresses on the floor. I've got parties of adult women and big teen boys.

I'm just venting, sorry. I know I'm going to get in trouble with whoever has to sleep on the floor LOL. The answer I got from Aulani was move to a 2 bedroom - not so easy in terms of two units and there's no availablility for our week in the summer now anyway.

Ok, sorry again, just had to say it. Moving on now!

I understand your problem. But really, the solution is as DVC recommended, change one of the units to a two bedroom, if possible.

When I travel with family and friends on my points, I tell them the sleeping options and say take it or leave it. To go or not is their choice, or they can make their own arrangements for cash on their dime.

You are right and I was thinking after I posted that heck, you get a trip to Hawaii so if someone is on an air mattress it's not the worse that can happen. I think we are going to waitlist for a two bedroom and keep one of the one bedrooms but it's July so not sure that'll come through. I still wish there were more bedding options in a one bedroom instead of the typical arrangement - I'd love to see sleeper chairs in all, at least the new ones.

Has anyone actually used one of those fold down beds? I saw it in the model but at that time didn't have a vacation planned and didn't pay enough attention. Wondering how long it is and if there's a weight limit.

Frankly as new as Aulani is I was amazed that they weren't equipped with a sleeper chair! They are fabulous, we travel with 6-8 people (3 families, 1/2 kids 1/2 adults) so no one wants to sleep together and the sofa and sleeper chair at OKW/Kidanimake it all happen, add an air mattress from time to time and everyone's happy!

Good luck on the 2br, that's what we always book!

Thanks! And I'm with you, I guess that's why I was so disappointed, I kinda assumed they'd have one and that the fold down bed was meant for younger children. Oh well, we'll deal with whatever happens and we will be in Hawaii! I haven't been there in many years so I'm excited!

I toured the Aulani model out at DL and I think the square footage is smaller than BLT or VGC. No second bathroom in a 1 bedroom.

Do not worry about the fold out bed it's not that bad. I'm a bigger guy and while i did not sleep on the bed when i did lie down it i found it to be comfortable.

An average sized person will have no issues sleeping on this bed.

I guess they built it with the idea that no one visits Hawaii to stay in their room/villa! It's all about the outdoors!

One day I'll get there to see it in person!

My 5'11" 180lbish 20 year old son slept on that fold out bed for 8 nights last July. He is our odd man out (1 boy and two girls) and has slept on the POR Trundle bed (when he was younger), air mattresses, and the fold out chair at many of the various WDW resorts.

I replied to another post yesterday about this subject so I specifically asked him to rate the order...

And yes the fold out chair was the most comfortable, followed by the fold out bed at Aulani. He said that the fold out bed was more comfortable than an air mattress and far more comfortable than the floor.

It is doable... Mary

I see that the post yesterday was also to the same poster -- so my answer provides no new information for them. I will then just add that I hope that you can wait and make your judgement once you are there. We were in an ocean view room and the shape of the room kind of dictates the use of the fold out bed instead of a sleeper chair, but once you are in the room looking at the view the shape of the room then makes sense. We thought it was beautiful, and I am now planning a trip for Christmas week 2014 (and my 50th birthday is that week). As I said DS has already asked if he can come back with us.

I have not been to Aulani yet (going in 2 weeks!!!) but I have slept on the fold out at AKL and Beach Club and they were way better than I expected. I was on an old one at Vero on e time and it was painful but the newer ones at the WDW Disney resorts are fine. Wish I could get one for my basement.

They patterned the room off of VGC probably because space is at a similar premium with the two locations (I do wish they had room for the extra full bath. The shared bath was kind of awkward in the Aulani 1BR). Will be interesting to see if the new VGF has the Murphy bed or a sleeper chair. The Murphy bed is very sturdy and seems to have a regular mattress (actually it might be the same as the bunk bed mattress they have a GCH which some say is shorter). I've laid down on it with my DS6 (I may have even slept with him a bit one night) and it seemed pretty comfortable but I didn't really check the length. IMHO it seemed more comfortable than the pull out couch, I've never seen the pull out chair...

My only complaint is that whoever is on the murphy bed can't really see the TV. Sometimes we like to put on a Disney show in the early am or pm to keep the kids occupied before the adults are up and ready to go. My son couldn't really see it when he was laying down. I assume a sleeper chair has better viewing.

I thought the same when we stayed at VGC. Having only stayed at OKW and BLT it never crossed my mind that the 1-bed at VGC wouldnt have a sleeper chair. (I know I should have read the description more carefully but I was stupid enough not too!). My 18 year old daughter nearly died when she saw the size of the fold-down bunk (once we found it!), luckily she isnt tall or large so she managed. I have a teenage son and daughter who obvioulsy don't want to share a bed but we really don't need a 2-bed so the 5-berth 1-beds are usually ideal. I was surprised that the newer DVC builds haven't all got the better, more flexible, arrangement. The bunk also cut down on some of the handy storage space too.

I'd bring a tent and sleep on the lawn if they'd allow it! I do understand your point, though, no one wants to be the one that gets the short straw. Giving us info to know what to expect always helps... I can prep someone to what to expect! :thumbsup2
