I'm almost 41 and STILL have very oily skin - what can I use?

My Mom is in here early 60's and still has oily skin. Uses retin-a and other stuff from her dermatologist to control it.

Ok, since I started this thread, I felt the need to report my experience with the idea of Milk of Magnesia - IT WORKED! Went to Walgreen's after DD's soccer practice and spent 3.99 for their brand of plain MOM - kinda hard to find since they have cherry, mint, etc.

I shook the bottle about a million times to be sure it was well mixed, used a small cotton pad and put a very small amount on. It dries almost instantly to a clear finish. As stated in an earlier response, if you see white chalk, you have put way too much on. It made my face very smooth and I slept with it on.

This morning when I got up, it still felt smooth and I wasn't an oil well. I washed my face as usual with Neurtrogena and then did the same thing. My nose got chalky and white so I had put too much on, so I put some water lightly over it and it came right off. Then I put my mineral make up on.

That was at 5:30am and it is now 8am and I just looked in the mirror and I am almost shine free. I have a tiny little bit but it is amazing!

THANKS TO ALL!!!!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

I will NEVER let my mother forget that she once told me - "wait until you get older, your skin will dry up and you won't have oily skin". Well, thirty something years later I still have it.

I wash with Neutrogena for oily skin, but on astringent, mineral makeup and one hour later I am all oily. I blot several times during the day with MK oil blotters and I 'm still oily an hour later.

Does anyone else have this problem and what do you use????

Di:confused3

Have you ever used a cotton pad with straight peroxide? It definitely dries skin. I would not use more than once in morning and once at night. (its also used in our house for acne control and works like a charm.)

Personally I used to have oily skin for many many years, then stopped with all the washes, moisturizers, astringents and makeup and have used unscented plain Dove, only use hypo allergenic makeup (minimal, bronzer with spf15, bit o blush, mascara and liner some days) and do not scrub and blot day and night anymore. I use peroxide at night before bed and no Dove at all. Thats it.
I have had no oily skin and really think, for me, it was all about the OVER treating it......
I cannot tell you HOW many times doctors, and people comment that my skin looks the way it does, NO wrinkles, smooth and definitely not pushing the big 50! I swear by my regiment! Best of Luck.

Yay! I'm so glad you had such positive results and came back to report! :thumbsup2 I gotta say I don't tell many people about MoM in real life as I don't want them to think I'm overly weird... :rotfl: but I'm comfortable sharing with my DISers.

Who knew such an inexpensive little thing could make such a big difference? :worship:

I saw this thread and have skin that is very dry, so dry that my skin overcompensates by making it an oil slick. I have tried everything so I figured a couple of dollars on Milk of Magnesia can't hurt.

It really works, my skin is less oily during the day, not completely cured but much better. I also have acne, it has been clearing up too. I only started using it 3 days ago and I already notice a difference. :goodvibes

Oh and a plus, if I am a little constipated I can take a little swig before I apply!:rotfl2: :thumbsup2  :lmao:

Here is my update - I read this thread in the morning and then I hopped on a plane that that afternoon to deal with some family business for several days. When I arrived at my Aunts I told her about this tip and she and I went to Fred Meyers and bought their generic MOM and some sponges. The MOM was $3.99 and the spongers were $2.45 for 12.

I used it every morning and my Aunt saw a huge difference. The one comment she did make was that my makeup didn't seem to stay on as well or wear as well throughout the day. I do use the Mary Kay mineral makeup and perhaps drying out my skin a bit doesn't create the right base. This morning I used moisturizer and then the MOM - I'll report back.

Anyway, thanks for the tip - I am not all slippery and slimy by the end of the day.

My Aunt has a friend who lives overseas and has really oily skin. She went and bought another bottle of the MOMs a packet of sponges and sent me off to the post office to send to her friend.

O.K. real life got in the way of me running ot Wally World, but now that I HAVE to go just about everything we are out of ( hey, we get paid once a month...timing is everything :rolleyes1 ) etc, I am getting the M.O.M. and jumping on the beauty bandwagon! I'm gonna try it over the weekend...DD is coming home for Spring break, whe will think I have completely lost it for sure!

Nurses have known about the great uses of MOM for many years. We used to always use it to heal decubitus ulcers (bed sores) on patients. Yep...actually helps heal bad ulcers. Great stuff! :thumbsup2 Definitely helps in healing acne breakouts and reduces oil production.

I'm 52 and still have very, very oily skin. I also use MOM, best thing I have ever tried. My regime: Clinque clarifying lotion 4, MOM ( I buy the cherry flavored because it's pink and doesn't leave white film) and Avon's new MagiX
over that. I still get oily after 4-5 hours but nothing, nothing like before and I have tried everything. I use Everyday Minerals (thanks to these boards), I like the intensive foundation because I think it stays matte longer.
