I had a plan to get a group of family/friends together for a long weekend at Disney World to celebrate the Christmas season. The touring plan was do the MVMCP on Friday night, then the Candlelight Processional on Saturday and whatever on Sunday before flying home. At the time this came up in November of last year I booked POP Century for the first weekend in December (right in the middle of the Pop Warner Super bowl:oops:). So this was plan 1.

As time wore the people we invited decided they couldn’t go. No matter….. my wife and I love Christmas at Disney so we were all in!:D This became plan 1A.

This summer we have a vacation planned for Wilderness Lodge, that had been originally planned for the Polynesian. The Poly is my bucket list resort. I actually had booked it @ $500/night. After a couple of weeks I couldn’t do it so I booked the Wilderness Lodge instead……..not that bad in the end. Now ever since cancelling that Poly trip my wife has known I’ve been looking for a way to make something work. So last month I went fishing for a Poly reservation in December. I did find a Deluxe studio available for a bit more than $500/night (I’m rationalizing here.) but for the week before our POP resi. Also the price of that weekend was going to be $800 more than the POP priceo_O………..so as the Disney nerd I booked that weekend too! All ya need is $200 deposit right? That became plan 1B!

So for the past month I’ve been sitting with 2 long weekend reservations during Christmas season with partial payments against both. The Poly trip was expensive and I wasn’t quite sure I could make the payments in time so I refused to cancel the POP reservation. Over this past weekend I was watching Disney youtube videos and up popped a video about “renting DVC” points………….Ahh Haa!

So began plan 1C. I went through my DVC rental process and low and behold!!! While we couldn’t get the Poly Deluxe studio (very busy time of the year)……….we were able to get a Bay Lake Deluxe Studio for the weekend of Dec 14th……..the third different weekend in this long drawn out journey:-).

So once all the paper work is finalized what I’ll do is cancel the other two trips booked through Disney and take the monies attached and put it to the August Wilderness Lodge trip! Phewwwww!:P

But its not done yet! The plan was 3 days/2 nights with a 2 day ticket (the MVMCP ticket will get us into that). After talking with my wife we’ve decided to go to a 1 day ticket for Epcot…….pricey yes but listen…… For Sunday, instead for doing a park……….we’ll do a “Holiday” monorail crawl! What we’ll do is tour the MK resorts (maybe WL too) See the “gingerbread house” and the Grand Floridian………..a dole whip at the Poly………..and lunch at “The Wave” (my wife saw the menu and is hooked). No rushing around and we don’t have to be on the last flight out. One other big thing about this, albeit short trip,……….NO BUS TRANSPORT required! (that doesn’t count DME J)

The bottom line is……….I’m not really ever settled……….and the level of settled increase with each major milestone………..ADR day………….FP day………….Final payment due day! ADR day isn't for 2 months!

For me its fun…….but I’m always a bit crazy too!8-)

Just be sure that you will be okay with the DVC stay. It is not easy and may be against your rental agreement to change a DVC rental reservation. Once you book that, you get what you booked, and changes are difficult. Also, the full room cost may be due once i is booked. DVC rentals are not bad, you just need to know what you want and get it booked.

You're exactly on point. Fortunately I've done DVC rentals before :-)

Well, getting the DVC rental agreement ought to settle you down for sure. So I hope that wont ruin your fun that you have being unsettled.

My secrets out...:D You obviously saw "the cry for help" in my post! It'll be nice to settle all this resort stuff down :-)

I just wanted you to be informed so that if you did go through with the DVC rental, then invented plan 1D or 1E that there would probably be a problem with changing the reservation. You can still have fun with changing park, ticket, meal, and fastpass plans even after your room is settled.

Dunno if it helps, but BLT DVC is AWESOME! :earsboy:

Thanks..........we're are super pumped about staying there. It adds such a different taste to our normal WDW vacation. Monorail only required is the big one!!!! We love Geyser Point at WL so that's only a boat ride away!!! Thank god we have our August trip coming up.........or else I'd be praying for Thanksgiving :P

You'll love walking to MK, and you'll love even more walking from MK to BLT at closing time--No waiting for the monorail.:)

Plan on there being no changes allowed after a DVC rental if finalized. I rented my points out thru a rental broker five months in advance. A couple of months later they wanted to change the reservation to delay it for 4 months. I was unable to make the change for them. They finally decided to go as planned or they would have lost several thousand dollars. I would have felt terrible for them, but I would not have eaten the lost points.

Ok folks the DVC Rental is done.........we now (and finally :-)) have a Lake view Deluxe studio at Bay Lake Tower!!!! Couldn't be happier.........saving on the order of $800 on total trip, based on adjusted plans. The best part is my wife is so excited!!!:D

I stayed at BLT once by renting points for a studio. I am an Epcot Resorts girl, but really liked the BLT stay. The Contemporary is such an iconic resort...enjoyed it tremendously. Walking to MK is the best.
