Heading down in November and considering taking an Illuminations Cruise - there will be 6 (adults) of us. Anyone taken one? Is it worth the extra money? Any tips?

Thanks,
Sandra

Hi Sandra

We were at the Swan last June and my wife got us on an Illuminations Cruise. She actually got hooked up with a group from disboards and we all shared the cost of the cruise. We paid $20 US for us and our 3 year old son. He loved it and got to drive the boat! The view is spectacular from the boat. I'd do it again when we go again.

I know most people don't agree (based on how difficult it is too book an Illuminations Cruise), but I think it's better watching it from elsewhere in the WS. I booked an Illuminations Cruise the first time we saw it and when we saw it from Mexico the next year, I couldn't believe we had just seen the same show. My overall impression was so different.

From the cruise I thought "that was a nice show" but each time I've seen it since (including this last trip) I get goosebumps and feel WOW...it's one of my favourite shows. I just asked DD the same question and she agrees with me. From the bridge where they park the pontoon boats, the countries are only partially visible as they light up during the show. We find near Mexico and France gives the best views. Just our .02. :)

If you book one, share with other people to defray the cost. It is worth it to do once, because they also take you on a tour to see MGM lit up, etc. So, while I wouldn't do it again, because I also prefer my favourite Illuminations spot, I did enjoy doing it once.

When we went down in August 2000, we were able to share a cruise with a fellow DISer (Tom and Jeremy DS) and we had a fabulous time. My DS still talks about it. We had an awesome captain (Scott) and it was an incredible experience. We split the cost with Tom so it was $60 for the 3 of us and we each gave $20 to Scott so it was a total of $80 USD for the three of us and was well worth the money!! I'm not sure that I would do one if I had to pay the $120 just for the 3 of us, but you can usually find one to share or book one and post on the share board! I would do it again in a heartbeat.
