I'm helping a friend surprise his girlfriend while at DW.He was looking for ideas to propose to her and I told him about the Illuminations cruise. He liked the idea and now we have tons of questions.I read the info on www.wdwig.com ,but, it does not say if it's possible to order champagne or a bottle of wine. Also, how hard is it to book one??..he is thinking of tuesday or wednesday the first week of december.

If you can think of any other ideas,I would really appreciate it.
After all,YOU are the experts!!! ;)

I know one of the moderators around here - nativetxn knows all there is to know about these cruises

Thanks
Jason

bridgettesmom, yes they are dificult to reserve. There are only four boats that are available. They all park under the bridge between france and england, side by side. It could be very romatic, if your friend dose not mind other people around him on other boats. He could order food and drinks to be on the boat when he arrives or our capitan in November let us bring beers on board with us. There are a lot of romantic places around world showcase your friend could choose from all of which would be perfect for a proposeal. I would also post your question under
Disney Wedding and Honeymoons. I wish your friend good luck.

Okay....here is what I suggest if he is willing to cough up more than a few bucks for the proposal event...

He should see if he can reserve the Breathless - the lovely Mahogany Cris Craft boat that leaves from the Y&BC. The boats do drive around a bit before or after Illuminations. When he is paying for the cruise, he can let the driver know his plans and maybe get a semi-private moment before the fireworks to pop the question. Then after she (hopefully) says yes, they go and watch lluminations.

And maybe instead of champagne on the boat, he can contact special events or whoever he needs to and see if he can arrange for a romantic candlelit table on the beach at the Y&BC with a waiter serving champagne (in specially etched glasses to commorate the event perhaps) and chocolate covered strawberries or some some other dessert.

Am I a sappy romantic or what?

Hi Bridgetsmom. This sounds very romantic. You are such a nice person to help your friend plan his proposal.

I've sent off a message to one of our DISers who pilots an Illuminations Cruise to see if he can share some info about cost.

I know that you can bring your own champagne on an Illuminations Cruise, I believe that the only restriction is that it must be purchased on Disney property (it could probably be found at the Screen Door on Boardwalk).

PammyK had a really good suggestion about reserving the Breathless, that would be just perfect for a marriage proposal.

There are some instructions about how to reserve a boat for this right HERE.

Good luck with this.

Thank You... jaysue,SAKPEG99OKW,PammyK I really truly apprecciate your suggestions.I just spoke to my friend and he is really excited about it.This is truly romantic,if only my DH had thought of it  .My friend and his girlfriend are also total Disney freaks,so,I know this is an awesome idea.

nativetxn...I am definately enjoying helping him plan this :p and he is certainly happy that they will be able to bring a bottle of champagne.Just a question, how will they know if it's purchased on disney property is there a specific brand?? I appreciate you contacting the diser about the cost of the Breathless. How hard is it to rent it on a tuesday or wednesday?

Thank you ...

PammyK, it's the romantics who make those special memories for all the rest of us! Great idea!:D

The cruises are VERY difficult to book (I know, I tried 4 or 5 days in a row and failed, but ended up sharing one).
You might try Gifts of a Lifetime to help with a very unique marriage proposal. Jane did a fabulous job for me with a surprise for my friend at MGM a few months ago! It was WELL WORTH the cost for the "experience" and "memories"!! She has an ad on the Orlando Services Page at this LINK - if you click on her ad it will take you to her web page. Even if your friend can book the cruise, wouldn't it be great if the captain hands your friend's girlfriend a "message in a bottle" with instructions that might lead her to the beach by the Yacht Club after the cruise, to hunt for a treasure box that has his proposal inside???? Jane can make that happen and have pictures taken for a scrap book to remember the event. She is full of ideas. If your friend calls, have him tell Jane that "Puffy" recommended her and was a very satisfied customer!
Good luck (and how much fun! I wish I was planning another 'event'.....:o ;)

Last year my BIL's brother proposed (again) to his fiancee on our cruise last year. It was a surprise for all of us. He had proposed a few months before and she had said yes but she never got a ring.(hadn't found the one she wanted) We joke the all week to her about getting the ring. Well she finally got one that night yes it was one of those mickey rings with the birthstones in it. It was temporay. It was so cute she was crying and everything. Jeff the boat captain tried to get people on the bridge to throw money down to the newly engaged couple but no one fell for that but they did applaud. Jeff said that was the first time he had anyone get engaged on his cruise. So go for it and good luck!

Bridgetsmom, it is no harder to book an illuminations cruise for Tuesday or Wednesday than any other day of the week. The trick is getting that reservation 90 days out.

I have some further specific information for you about doing this and I'm going to send you a private message.
