I'll think twice about getting ice cream next time.

Ice cream is made from milk and cream.

Milk and cream comes from cows.

Cows eat corn.

There is a lot less corn already, thanks to ethanol, so the price of corn has risen. The flooding on the Mississippi means the price of corn futures has risen again and that this fall the price of corn will rise.

So the price of your ice cream must, necessarily, go up.

That one must've been on the top shelf, cause you are reaching. :rotfl:

Those prices are higher than Disney World. I think they're more using rent/wholesale prices as an excuse then there is a true basis because those prices are insanely out of scope.

No ice cream in the world is worth that kind of money. Thank goodness I don't eat the stuff.

I would never pay that much for icecream unless it was this...

Kitchen Sink - Eight Scoops of Ice Cream served with all the Toppings in the house and a whole can of Whipped Cream $23.99

This looks like a real bargain to me!!

Sorry, but go read about agricultural futures. Prices of all foods are going up dramatically and will continue to go up, mostly due to the corn shortages. So far only 3rd world countries are feeling the pinch, but the rest of us will be shortly. . .and peeps are STILL pushing more use of ethanol .

This is a truism. We are going to see the prices of most food rise; in particular, meats and dairy products because animals are mostly grain fed. My family owns a bar/restaurant, and we are seeing an increase in almost all products from all of our food vendors.

Wow that is a lot to swallow and that would be the last time I ate there as well:eek:

That's insane. I paid $4-something the last time I went to one of our "mom and pop" places in town (it was a while ago). A couple of months ago, I found out that they went out of business.

Another "mom and pop" in town sells their small cone/cup for $2.75 I think...more reasonable!:thumbsup2

We have so a bunch of new tutti frutti shoppes pop up in our area and its starts with a $4.00 small cup and you add all these flavors than you pass a line of toppings and than you a pass line of sauces(chocolate, strawberry, etc, etc) than u put it on a scale and be amazed at how expensive it is. In my case $4.00 turned to $11.00:scared1:(imagine x 4) for the same cup with toppings. Its so enticing to put different toppings and thats where they get ya.

Its a do it yourself place which is unique and expensive once you add stuff.

What I meant was that particular ice cream shop didn't raise their prices because of corn.

And I was a bit disappointed that our local gelato place doesn't have child sizes! I paid 7 something for two small scoops of gelato that are home made in the store (mine was goat cheese cashew salted caramel!) Fancy ingredients, in a pricey neighborhood and the prices are still pretty reasonable.

EIGHT BUCKS for one scoop of ice cream is crazy!! Unless its the best ice cream in the world, I'd never go back and I'm pretty sure most others will do the same. Who can afford to take their family?

Wow! Our local dairy offers their ice cream for 2.25 for a decent sized "small" and .75 for a "baby" which is sometimes all I want. We usually get out of there for less than 10.00 for our family of four and it is premium ice cream made on sight!

This thread came at a perfect time. I rarely eat ice cream but I was feeling it this evening. I went to Cold Stone Creamery, which is known for being on the expensive side, but $7.50 for their smallest cup had me in shock. And there was a line out the door. Why such high prices???

My son works concessions at a movie theater and it takes him three hours of work to afford their hot dog/popcorn/soda combo! Again, lines galore, so it seems I'm the only one kvetching about the prices!

wow!!! that's super expensive. I got all sorts of mad when DH paid $15 for our 2 yogurts at Yogunfruz a couple weeks ago. I was sitting on a bench with DD waiting for him or else I never would have let him pay that much for it. The last time I had gotten it was when I was pregnant, so a little over a year and a half ago, and it was definitely not that expensive then. Crazy inflation

Same type of thing when going out to eat and they charge $2.50 for a soda. You can get 2 2 liters for that! insane. But $8.25 for ice cream. You can get at least 3 half gallons for that! And it would last you all summer. Well, maybe not here in my house...

Wow, that makes me feel better about the $16.75 I spent at Marble Slab for me and DD and her friend. I don't even like ice cream but for some reason I got me some. So not worth it, but then in my eyes, no ice cream is. Yeah, I am really weird.

This is why I never order anything but water when we go out to eat. Unless we are dining at a nice restaurant, and I will splurge on wine...but even that...$9 for a glass when you can buy a pretty decent bottle for that price!

My family and I almost always order water also. We save almost $10 a meal. That adds up.

Wow, OP that is a LOT for ice cream. I don't get it at shops anymore. When I do want some, I'll just buy a pint of Haagen Das for about $4 or so, and DH and I both get some.

Lat time I got it at Coldstone, the add-ins jacked the price of the ice cream way up, and DH got his in a chocolate-dipped cone bowl, which he thought was included in the price.
