Il Mulino or Mama Melrose?

My parents, DH and I are going on an adults-only trip in Feb/Mar. We're staying at the BWI and plan on eating Italian our first night. We have an ADR for Il Mulino, but it just occurred to me that we could spend the later afternoon at DHS and then eat at Mama Melrose's. Il Mulino seems a little more upscale which we would enjoy, but MM's seems like a good time.

If given the choice between the two, which would you choose? TIA!

Not even close--Il MUlino. Mama Melrose isn't even up to Olive Garden or Macaroni Grill.

LOL, Unclerom...I couldn't have said it better myself.

Go to IL Mulino, the food and service are fantastic! Quick boatride from the studios, or walk if you want.

We have eaten at bot and they are two different dinning experiances. Mama Melrose is more of a casual atmosphare and Il Mulino is more upscale. We really enjoy a nice adult highend Italain meal at Il Mulino's but if you are looking for something more casual Mama Melrose's is great as well.

Thanks everyone! We'll be keeping our reservatin for Il Mulino! Plus, I just realized that DHS will be hosting the ESPN weekend that day so we will be avoiding that area. :)

IL Mulino is very casual, you can go in park attire or dressed up! We don't call it high end...we call it authentic, or as close to authentic as you can get in the US, lol.

The service and food and prices are high end or least higher end then Mama Melrose's or the table service place inside of the Italy pavillion.

Truthfully, I never even heard of IL Mulino (never seen or read a review on it). We go to Mama Melrose every year and have always had very good service and good food. It is a nice place for a casual dinner (and DHS does not offer much in the way of table service to begin with--so we either do Mama Melrose or 50's Prime Time--we won't waste our time at any of the others).

I enjoy MM very much and we weat there almost every trip. We dined at Il Mulino once, not long after it opened, and were very disappointed. We were going to give it another shot on our trip a few weeks ago, but our plans changed and I needed to be in DHS by 8:00. I wasn't sure if Id make it after dinner, so we changed out ADR to MM. 4 of us dined there and had a great time with very good food. We all left full and happy. :thumbsup2

Stay away from anything with red sauce at Mama Melrose or really anywhere at Disney. Some of the other entrees are ok at Mama Melrose

If you are very picky about your Italian food and are used to very good Italian food and that is what you are looking for then choose Il Mulino. If you are on the dining plan this is not a restaurant on the plan.

I am Italian, grew up in Italy, cook Italian at home, my husband is a chef and we live in the NYC tri state area that has a lot of great Italian restaurants. We really don't eat Italian at Disney but if we do we do not get anything with red sauce on it at all again except Il Mulino. When Tutto Italia was Alfredos I did order the Lasagna there a few times because it was very similar to the way my family in Italy makes it and I enjoyed it

I'm not sure what everyone is ordering at Mama Melrose's but I always stick with the pepperoni flatbread and find it very good. Never been to IL Mulino but heard good things.

We have had the following
Calamari - good but stay away from the sauce
Cesar salad - good
Penne Vodka - good
Chicken parm - awful

We have had the calamari (love it except for the peppers--I don't like peppers), the four-cheese flatbread pizza (love it), DH has had the chicken parmesan and it was very good and he has had the Spaghetti Fra Diavolo and the Pork Marsala and he enjoyed both immensely.

I've eaten at both resturants. Il Mulin is definitely better than Mama Melrose.

Since it is not a Disney owned and operated place and you cannot use the DDP or the DDE/TiW there it is not that talked about on this board. But, if you are willing to pay for a very good Italian meal give it a try. It is located inside of the Swan hotel.

I haven't eaten at the Disney Il Mulino, but I have eaten at the Il Mulino in New York and it was one of the BEST Italian meals that I have ever had! It's in a totally different league than Mama Melrose!!
