We have IKEA cabinets in our house, and we just picked out a second set for our In Law apt. We love them. There are tons of positives about them. You can make shelves or drawers in each cabinet. If you change your mind later, it's inexpensive to get another and you can walk into the store and buy it that day, not wait six weeks to order. If you want to change out all the doors for a different look, you can, easily and inexpensively.
We used a design service that works specifically with IKEA. It was money well spent, as they came into our home and helped us with ideas that we might not have thought of on our own, to maximize space. They also emailed us a blueprint which came in handy for exact measurements for the electrician, countertops, etc. The same design company also had the option of someone coming in for one day to help get us started with installation ourselves, and again, money well spent. My DH studied cabinetry in school and still, they were a little tricky at first to work with. He can now easily do our second set on his own, and we just used the software in the store this time, too.
