I was just wondering if people have had much experience with II searches. I requested the Park City Slopeside Marriott for Mardi Gras 2006. MS said it could take as much as 1 year before I hear back. Is this the norm? Does anyone know if you can check on the status of a search to make sure it's still active?

Going Home in September for the first time!

lots of timeshares won't let their owners deposit until they have paid the annual fees to the timeshare - so that stops alot of earlier deposits.

remember you are dealing with another timeshare - so until the week you want gets deposited then II can't give it to you.

sometimes popular resort will rent their weeks before giving them to II.

I would go on tug and see if a member there won't do a direct exchange with you. It might cost you more points but if it is a week you just have to have - then it might be better for you.

if you really need to have this week then you might be better off looking at the Concierge collection - these can be guaranteed much sooner (besides you don't have to do a week at these unless you want too).

You'll have better odds if you can add a couple of other resorts to the list. (I haven't gone in to see what's available in that area.) Mardi Gras is going to be a tough time to book.

Thanks for the feedback. We really need the week of Mardi Gras, so I guess I'll hold on a while and see what happens. I just wondered how long other people waited and actually got a match.

The earliest a Marriott member is going to be able to deposit is 12 months out though it could be as little as 2 months out for some of the deposits. You're chances of success are not very good, you should make alternate plans.

If you are trying to trade into a Marriott timeshare resort through a DVC World Passport Collection exchange, be aware of the following:

-- There will be no matches possible until owners at that Marriott resort begin to deposit weeks with Interval International (I.I.).

-- At most Marriott timeshare resorts, the owners cannot reserve weeks until 12 months before the check-in date, so there are no weeks to deposit with I.I. until that time. (Actually, multiple week owners can reserve 13 months before the check-in date for concurrent or consecutive weeks; but such reservations have a single confirmation number, and thus also cannot be desposited with I.I. until they are broken up into discrete weeks, which can be done 12 months before the check-in date.)

-- A Marriott owner who wants to deposit a week for exchange typically deposits his/her reserved week anywhere from 12 months to 60 days before the check-in date. In the past, there was no reason to deposit quickly, because the trading power of the week stayed the same at any time during this period. As of about a year ago, I.I. changed the rules, but it's unlikely that most Marriott owners know this yet.

-- After a Marriott week is deposited with I.I., that week is only available to other Marriott owners (with sufficient trading power) for up to 3 weeks. First I.I. matches pending requests from other owners. Then, if there are no more pending requests, I.I. put the week into the pool for instant matches -- but only to other Marriott owners (with sufficient trading power).

-- Once the 3-week Marriott preference is over, an unmatched Marriott week can finally "escape" into the general I.I. exchange pool.

-- Once again, I.I. matches pending requests first, but this time requests from any I.I. member are considered, not just from Marriott owners. That's where it really pays to put in your search early. Only after pending requests have been matched, the week is available for instant matches for any I.I. member. In any case, I.I. matches comparable weeks, so strong traders (like DVC) can get exchanges that weak traders can't get.

Okay, that's a lot of detail. Dean said it more succinctly. The bottom line is: When trading DVC to Marriott, don't expect anything until 49 weeks before check-in at the earliest. Be prepared to wait much longer than that, as other Marriott owners have priority over DVC members. And realize that you may not get you want, if you go somewhere where the demand exceeds the supply.

Thanks for all of the info! I have my heart set on the Marriot Slopeside, so I guess I'll hold tight for a while and see what happens through II!

Has anyone actually been successfull doing a direct exchange into this resort (via TUG, etc)? I wouldn't mind having to use more points since this is such a nice resort (We toured it and almost bought in 3 years ago!)

I'm glad we purchased DVC, but one of the reasons we did was the option of trading into this specific resort. It'll be a major disappointment if it doesn't work out!

go ask over on the www.tug2.net board and see.

look at the ads first - the moderators get upset if you don't look before you ask.

I think everyone can see the ads - the reviews and the sights require the membership fee.
