I stayed at David Walley's Resort in Genoa, NV for a week over New Year's. I'd exchanged points for a studio (I think it was 135 for high season?).
Genoa is located just south of Lake Tahoe on the NV side. It's the first settlement in NV, founded in 1851, complete with "Nevada's Oldest Thirst Parlor" in the very small (blink and you'll miss it) downtown area. Very cute place, and I wish we'd had more time to explore it. It's just over Kingsbury pass from Lake Tahoe and a very quick drive to Heavenly resort. All the mountains on the south side of Tahoe are very close to the resort. The others are anywhere from an hour or two drive away. Carson City is about 30 minutes away; Reno about 1.5 hours.
The room was very nice, but not the size of a DVC studio. As you walk in, there is a small alcove with coat hooks. A little further on, there is a kitchenette on the right with a sink, small fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, and enough dishes, glasses (wine, water, juice, coffee sizes), and silverware for two people. Just across from that was the bathroom. That was a fairly good size, but only had a shower - no tub to soak in after a long day of skiing. The main bedroom area had a queen-size bed, one nightstand, a low bureau that just barely left enough room to squeeze between it and the bed, a small table and two chairs. There was another small closet in the corner of the room, and a sliding glass door that led to a balcony. You definitely have to keep things neat, otherwise you'd run out of room very quickly in there. There was a TV with a VCR, no DVD player. There didn't seem to be wireless internet access, and you paid for any out-going calls, so dial-up would cost you.
The resort has several different buildings. Some had outside hallways like OKW and SSR. The building we were in did not - more like BWV and BCV. The resort is known for its 8 mineral hot springs, but access to those is $20 extra/day/guest. I didn't get a chance to go in those as I'd forgotten my bathing suit. There's a restaurant onsite, but we didn't try it. We did get sandwiches from the deli. Reasonably priced, but I found a spider and a fly wing in mine. I don't think they charged for the extra sides.
You could rent videos and DVDs (so some rooms must have had those) at the main desk, along with rec equipment as each floor had its own recreation room with a ping pong table and a pool table.
I would stay there again, as it's well-located to the big ski areas. I was a little disappointed in the size of the room, but it was clean and comfortable. Next time, I'd probably ask that we get a place that comes with a tub and shower, not just a shower stall. If you have any questions, let me know.
