If you've had pneumonia, can you please tell me

I had it bad after the flu, so I had a fever and a literally felt like I was drowning. When I breathed in, my chest made a gurgling noise (down low). I think that call this "rales." I also felt like I had a weight on my chest.

Walking pneumonia is different and probably has more coughing.

I had a cough so bad I was cracking ribs.

My youngest has it now. She feels the weight on her chest and throat. She's got a fever and a cough.

I had to take her to the er the other night. It's scary when your kid wakes you up and tells you she's having troubles breathing.

I guess there are different kinds. She's got bacterial pneumonia.

I had had bronchitis twice, and when I got pneumonia I thought it was bronchitis again -- lots of coughing, I was very congested, and I couldn't breathe. I had a fever. and swallowng was difficult -- I wound up dehydrated, so my heart was racing.

At first I though I just had a cold. Then the cold wouldn't go away. The coughing got worse. But mostly, I felt terrible. I only wanted to lay down. I couldn't eat. Eventually, even trying to go to the bathroom was a chore, I felt as though I would pass out. When my husband found me laying on the bathroom floor because I didn't have the energy to get to the bed and I said I felt like I was going to die, he decided I'd better see a doctor. It took me three months to get over it :guilty: Hope you don't feel like that. It's awful.

I thought I was getting bronchitis when I got it

but then I would start coughing so bad and would not be able to breathe - I had a 104.5 fever -

I had bacterial so antibiotics began to relieve the symptoms almost immediately! Once I had the antibiotics they told me the best thing was for me to walk around and not let the fluid collect in my lungs!

A cough that hurt, fever, feeling like there was a weight on my chest, and a fast pulse (didn't know that part til I went to the doctor). I've had pneumonia several times before. I had the flu earlier this year and honestly felt sicker with that than I've ever felt with pneumonia!

Well by the time I admitted to myself that I was really sick, I was having trouble breathing.

If you want to get seen in the ER right away, just tell them you can't breath. :teeth:

For me it started with a bad case of bronchitis. I couldn't seem to get rid of it, and the Dr. kept telling me to rest, rest, rest -- of course I kept going, going, going. "I'm young, I'm relatively healthy - I'll get over this", I told myself. Not. Went back to the Dr. when it started hurting to breath in. I was taking more shallow breaths to avoid the pain. Had x-rays done, but only to confirm because the Dr. knew I had pnumonia.

Missed a month of work recovering from pnumonia. Even when I went back I still felt weak.

Get to the Dr. and I hope you feel better soon.

Fever, lots of coughing (can't breathe in because coughing so much type coughing), loss of appetite & that really funny rattle sound when breathing.

Hurt to lie down flat and breathe too (but I had some in each lungs).

Be sure to follow up on any bacterial pne issues. It took three different antibiotics to find the one that finally worked on mine.

Thanks all. I keep waiting it out... but my friend who had pneumonia with NO chest pain said to see dr. Had a cold/sore throat, no fever (although I'm on immunosuppressants, so that could be why)...then cough got worse Friday night...when I have bronchitis it's a deep barking, but this one is uh, wetter, ick. And my chest feels like someone is sitting on me. SIGH.

what your symptoms were? Thank you!

I have had it twice, both times were bad. The second time very dangerous.
Both times followed a sinus infection. My chest hurt me very badly. One of the times I felt fine for a while but could not finish a sentence without losing my breath. The only sure way of knowing is a chest x-ray. If you suspect it then I would definatly not hesitate.

If you suspect you have pneumonia you need to get checked out ASAP. You can die from pneumonia.

Hey, I'm on immunosuppressants too and one thing I've been told and read over and over again is to get checked when you get sick. It's not safe to wait.

If you are prone to illness especially anything like bronchitis or pneumonia, you need to be checked out. This last time I had pneumonia I had to take a month off of work. It got to the point I could barely get around in my apt without help. It took over 30,000 mg of antibioitcs and sterioids to get me better. Please don't wait that long. You need to be checked out.

I had it as a baby and nearly died. Then I got it again two other times. From what I can remember just like other people has said it feels like a ton of bricks is sitting on your chest. I was very weak and very cold. Kind of like the worst flu on earth. Funny thing though- it hit me the hardest in the evening, not so bad during the daytime. the last time I got it :confused3

I didn't actually feel that bad til now (at work, of course). Keep getting nauseous too.

Ask them to do a chest XRay.

I had pneumonia in both my lungs two weeks ago, am just starting to feel better in fact. It started with a cough that my DD gave me and got worse and worse. I couldn't talk without hacking. My throat felt "rattly" when I breathed. Seen at the doctor's (by someone other than my own doctor, who was later a bit peeved) but told I had a virus, no CXR done, no antibiotics. Meanwhile, a PET scan was read that I'd had done 6 days before I'd been seen at the doctor's, and it showed a pneumonia in my right lower lobe. I started on antibiotics then, but got worse. Felt like I was going to pass out just taking a shower, my heart was racing and I was very winded. Went back to the doctor's, on admission my heart rate was 152 and a chest XRay done then showed it had progressed from one lung to both. Took a while to recover, was placed on bedrest and told to force fluids, and not to even talk!! :rolleyes1

The funny part was though, I didn't really feel "sick", just this annoying cough, then weak from the racing heart and I presume decreased oxygenation. I never really knew what walking pneumonia was even though my GF died of it. Now I do.

Good luck, hope you feel better soon. :wizard:
