please take care. I'm sure you've all heard about the new security threat. All our thoughts are with everyone flying during this time and hope that everyone makes it to WDW (and everywhere) safe and sound. I especially feel for our fellow disboaders coming from the UK.

If my flight was leaving today, instead of later this month, I don't know if I would try to change it or not. Hopefully, by the time we fly things will have returned to (semi-) normal.

I guess if they are still placing the increased restrictions when we fly in about a month then I will have to rethink what I bring carry-on. Luckily, for us, we check almost everything anyway, except what we need during the flight and emergency replacement items in case our luggage gets lost. Other than the soda and the water we usually carry on board, I think the only thing I would have to check is my contacts/solution, which I normally carry-on. This will make it hard for those passengers who try to fly without doing baggage check. Probably doesn't apply to those flying to WDW though.

Everyone take care and get to the airport extra early.

Thanks for the kind thoughts...we are supposed to leave tomorrow morning...on United. I have no idea what to do...for once, I actually feel like postponing. I have been off about the trip for the past week or so, and now...well, reality checks hurt don't they? I had completely put any "anniversry" of 9/11 thoughts out of my head...but looks like terrorists have not. While I do not wish to scare my kids from flying, I do not want to put them in harms way either.

I know how you feel. When I originally booked this trip I booked 9/11 to 9/16 not knowing for sure what day we would leave. I was a little uneasy about flying on the 11th. However, our plans changed, due to flight availability, and we are going 9/9 to 9/19. I don't know what I would do if I was leaving tomorrow. I'm sure everything will be fine, but you have to do what you feel is right.

As far as the "anniversay" goes, the first few years my DD and I went to Dland on the 11th as our own "you're not changing what I do.." I didn't want to let what happened keep us from doing fun things.

I did just check Delta (my airline) and Southwest to see what they were saying about raised threat, etc. Delta didn't say anything regarding changing your flight or allowing more checked baggage. Southwest also said nothing about increasing check baggage allowance however, they did say you could change your reservation, without penalty.

My thoughts are with you and your family. Have a great time (if you don't change your plans).

On any flight, be aware of what is going on. Have a plan for what to do if there is a threat onboard. Be suspicious of people who fit the terrorist profile. Your life may depend on acting independently against them.

Remember, vigilant passengers prevented the shoe bomber from exploding that aircraft.

We also flying out tomorrow and I will be more on guard because of today's events.

My two kids and I are flying down to WDW. We're not going to cancel even though I'm a nervous air traveler anyday. I don't want to frighten my children any more than what they might over hear. I did tell my DS11 that no liquids would be allowed on the plane -- I'd rather he hears that information from me than from someone else or overhears it on the news.

ETA: We're flying Southwest and I did confirm with them that the kids will still be able to bring their portable DVD player on the plane. I'd much rather be prepared today and not bring it, than bring it to the airport and find out otherwise.

If I had a flight I would get on it.

It's still much safer then the drive to the airport. And all the increased security should actually make you feel better.

If I were flying today or in the very near future, I'd be apprehensive as well. But, due to increased security checks, I may feel safer than I would at other times. When we let our guard down, is the time we increase the liklihood of terrorism. Today, our guard is up to the highest level - yes, it's quite an inconvenience yet also helps decreases the chances of harm.
