could you please suggest some places for lunch and something to do there? We are picking DD up from camp there tomorrow and would like a break from the four hour drive out and return to home.

I'd appreciate anything you could suggest!!:D

My in-laws live "over the mountain" from State College....

More like over the mountain and into the woods.....

There are a lot of nice places to eat, and every chain restaurant imaginable. I love Damon's...it's a burger/rib place. There is a huge mall there and tons to see just walking around campus. The football stadium alone is a sight. The town itself outside of the college is very quaint and nice to just walk around in.

Make sure you stop at the Penn State Creamery. Some of the best ice cream you will ever taste. Love their mint chocolate chip!

Hillbeans, DD is probably right around where your in-laws live. She's in Petersburg at a Conservation Leadership School associated with Penn State. We just kind of drove in and out last week, but what's parking like? Where is the Creamery and how close is it to the stadium. Would love to see it!!

mzmickey, DDs fav flavor is mint chocolate chip. After a week of yucky food, she'll be thrilled!!

They live in Julian, PA....

I've not been in to "town" in awhile, but since school is out for the summer, parking shouldn't be bad.

I'm not familiar with any Petersburg right around State College, but I am familiar with a Petersburg on the other side of Huntingdon, which is slightly east of Altoona. If you're not going into State College and this is the Petersburg you're talking of, there are a few restaurants in Huntingdon that are nice. A trip to State is quite a bit out of the way to the tune of an hour or so drive.

Actually Petersburg was the mailing address we were given. We went through State College on route 26 awhile and finally turned left up and down some sizeable hills to the CLS which was in the woods on the right. Definitely was not an hour away... I don't think...:)

hmmmmmmm, were you on 26 south? If you follow 26 south from State, you'll wind up in Huntingdon.

Then there are LOTS of back roads that could get you into Petersburg.

Does this look right? I got it from Mapquest.

It doesn't matter anyway, if you're coming in from the north, heading back to State wouldn't be out of your way. There are many restaurants to choose from there. I'd just ride around and see what interested me the most.

The 26 south is definitely correct but I need to check the printed directions in the car for the rest of it.

Go to Wegmans. It's a grocery store...if you haven't been to one before...not sure where in PA you are from.

Good food, nice eatting area, and you can kill time just looking at everything. I love Wegmans!

OK, the directions say to go south on 26 to SR1029 (Charter Oak Road) which leads directly into the Stone Valley Recreation Center. Does that sound at all familiar?

Nancy, thanks for the suggestion about Wegman's. We have one close by but it's really a great place to get reasonably priced meals. We'd really like to find something in State College that's a must see because we may not be back there anytime soon as we live in the southeastern part of PA.

Hi,
I live in Clearfield,PA which is only a 30 min drive to SC. One of my very favorite places to dine is right downtown called the Tavern. It doesn't open until 4PM though. Another fun place to dine is Baby's. It's a 50's diner and you can get malted shakes and a baby sundae for 50 cents. It's downtown as well. Another downtown place is the Allen St. Grill. You do not have to be dressed up to dine at any of these places.

Near Tofttrees you will find an Olive Garden and an Outback restaurant. If you go futrher west you will find a Hoss's Steak and Seafood Restaurant. You get plenty of food there!

If you just go down the main steet overlooking the campus you will find many restaurants. On Beaver Ave. you can find a ColdStone Creamery.

The PS Creamery is located on campus and is near the Eisenhower Auditorium.

Have a safe trip

I can't believe that no one suggested Baby's Diner!!!! It is off of College Ave in State College, across the street from the Lion's Den. The food is good and it is like a classic diner! They have jukeboxes, and my favorite are their Vanilla Cokes, where they add the vanilla syrup to the Coke. We never miss a chance to eat there.
