If your playing Pokemon I'm judging you...

To let people know that you're doing it. Again, collective you. People like the drama. Just walking away is no drama. Making a statement about it creates more drama. As evidenced in the last few posts...

Yeah, I guess I took the bait. I do that a lot... :fish:

Asking a question to the general you out there.

Isn't it easier just to walk away and not log in to your account? If you did that, why would it matter if it was disabled or not? I don't understand the request to have an account disabled when all of the power to use the account is yours alone.

Again, the general you, not anyone specifically. Although, the end of this thread has resulted in my asking the question.

Good question!

I don't know the OP's reasoning for wanting this account, but I have deleted old Reddit accounts on occasion. In my case, it's because I felt I'd shared too much personal info on my account. Sometimes I felt like I was making a "name" for myself. People had started recognizing me from one forum to the next, and referencing my username in their posts - and that's not something I personally enjoy.

Usually, though, I immediately start up a new account to replace my old one. It feels good to have a fresh start, every now and again.

And while (fortunately, so far, knock on wood) it hasn't been something I've ever felt I had to do, I can easily imagine deleting an account if I ever posted something that I deeply regretted. Sort of a, "SO much shame! I NEVER want to look at this account again!" thing. :)

Edited to add: Of course, as was brought up above, we can't rule out "rage quitting", either. But, in the OP's defence, she was asking on a different forum. Most rage quits happen right in the same thread, or at least on the same board. She might genuinely have no idea how to delete a profile.

Yes, I think I'm on my fourth or fifth Reddit account, so I understand that. I never asked for them to be disabled though. I just started a new one with no other action needed. It just confused me as to why it mattered if the account was disabled or not. Just stop using it. Same/same.

Well there's this laughing face ------> xD

That's why I read it as celebratory. But, my apologies if I misread you! :hippie:
It's more of an awkward face than anything else squinted eyes/awkward smile. I've used this face long past anyone actually know what it is. I remember 10 years ago when I was 12/13 and joined the Dis having to explain it. It's like that face me and my co-workers make when we don't wanna be at work LOL.

There's an account delete function on Reddit, so you don't actually have to ask anyone. I use it so that I don't accidentally go back to an old account.

Try googling "XD meaning". I think you'll find the current interpretation is a bit different from what you thought it was when you were 12. :)

Maybe she was getting nasty PMs and didn't want to deal with it.

Who knows?

I hadn't considered that either. But, if you just stop logging in, won't that kinda take care of itself?

True, but human nature would be to keep looking. Maybe she felt she needed to remove the temptation.

Again, just a guess. When I took time away from here I just stopped reading or posting.

I see what you're saying. That makes sense too. Just me pondering out loud I suppose.

Usually, yes.

I go with the rule of, if I don;t want criticism for anything I post - keep it out of the public arena.

Okay, back on track.

I downloaded the app last night. And I have played the game. Today, I played at Sam's club and the local elementary school.

People "running" after Pokemon, have no clue how to play the game. The Pokemon doesn't run away from you. You are not chasing these whatever they are. And you don't have to look at your phone to find them. Your phone vibrates when one shows up.

Some people seem really defensive about their Pokémon. I did hear the other day that some venues asked to be taken out of this. I don't remember all of them but Arlington National Cemetery was one.

That said, if I ever get a decent phone I'll have to try this. ;)

Yeah, and the Holocaust Museum was another place. And things like that just totally make sense. People shouldn't be running around places like that playing games.

On the other hand, I totally see local businesses wanting to be listed as spots on the game! There was a report about a pizza place that had seen a 75% increase in business since the game started because of foot traffic. Just got an email from our local zoo offering a discount on annual memberships with a discount code "Pokemon" and advertising how many PokeStops and Gyms were located there. I can actually see this becoming another revenue stream for the game developers. Businesses pay to be listed as host sites! Think of the traffic driven to your site by the game....

One of the master's students my daughter is working with this summer has downloaded Pokemon Go, so the girls were all checking it out today. Apparently they found a Pidgey in the lab, and a Ghastly in the stairwell.

Another recent place that requested not to be in the game was Auschwitz! Can you imagine? :sad2:
