If your house was burning.....

Maybe we can rephrase the question: Your neighborhood is being evacuated because of XYZ, you have ten minutes to get out, and you're only allowed to take what you can fit in a knapsack.

Now all the people who didn't respond because of fire can give an answer!

That said, I'd go with photos too, but I like the idea of having copies of them elsewhere. After that I'd take the stained glass nativity set my kids and my mom made for me, the (small) afghans my grandmother made for my kids, and my laptop with lots of files and other information on it. And my PDA.

My genealogy file cabinet. It would probably take three grown men to lift it, but that's what I'd want saved!

I would try to save photographs, and digital cards with photos. My kids special items that they sleep with also. Everything else is just stuff.

I know many people said pictures and I would have to say the same thing but a little more specific on my end - it would have to be the pictures of my daughter who died in 1992 - since those are the only "things" that can not be replaced and they are the only "things" of value to me outside of my DH, 3DS's and DC(cousin) -

as long as everyone was out including animals, Id save my family photos.. This is one thing that cant be replaced...

This actually happened to me too when I was in high school. There were people everywhere, and we lived up on top of a mountain and had no next door neighbors, but people came from somewhere and they got there long before the fire dept. did. Me, I choose to save my clothes. :rotfl2: Hard to believe from kids eh? The guys asked what they should get out first and I said the pictures. I came down and they'd taken down all my mom's wall groupings. LOL I then grabbed the family photos. I'm not sure where everyone else was. My mom was probably out front falling apart. It started in the attic (electrical) so we had time to get everything out from the 1st floor.

My laptop. And not for the pictures. I'm one of the few people who wouldn't care about pictures.

My thoughts too. Maybe this other scenario should be posted?

Home videos, pictures, computer.

Not that I would go back...but if I could.
