Maybe we can rephrase the question: Your neighborhood is being evacuated because of XYZ, you have ten minutes to get out, and you're only allowed to take what you can fit in a knapsack.
Now all the people who didn't respond because of fire can give an answer!
That said, I'd go with photos too, but I like the idea of having copies of them elsewhere. After that I'd take the stained glass nativity set my kids and my mom made for me, the (small) afghans my grandmother made for my kids, and my laptop with lots of files and other information on it. And my PDA.

Hard to believe from kids eh? The guys asked what they should get out first and I said the pictures. I came down and they'd taken down all my mom's wall groupings. LOL I then grabbed the family photos. I'm not sure where everyone else was. My mom was probably out front falling apart. It started in the attic (electrical) so we had time to get everything out from the 1st floor.
