My 4 year old daughter has seasonal allergies and she takes Zyrtec, Nasonex and Pantanol. We travelled from Dallas, Texas to Orlando February 6-10. Although her allergies are under control at home, Florida was really tough on her. Keep in mind that Disney has beds and beds of beautiful flowers, blooming trees and fragrance shops everywhere! By mid afternoon the first day her eyes were swollen, her nose running and it all went down from there. She is such a sweety that she didn't complain, but looked miserable.

Just wanted to let other seasonal allergy sufferers or their children who suffer to keep this in mind and be prepared. Next time I go, I will definitly ask the doctor for something stronger - especially to help with the night cough from drainage.

Hope this helps someone...

My daughters Asthma was horriable last Aug. She coughed all day/ night and she would endup throwing up! It was bad. This year she will be bringing the nebulizer!

Wow! My son is on Zyrtec, Singulair and Advair. We live in Fort Worth so we've had the same weather as you. I'm hoping that with his regular regimen of meds we won't have a problem but I'm going to call the pediatrician for a backup. We leave for Florida on the 4th.

Thanks for the heads up!

I had the same problem with my son, we were there 1/28 - 2/4, here in Jersey we don't even think about allergies in the winter time. His poor eyes were so red and itchy, but thankfully I packed Benedry (in case of insect bites because DS swells up terribly) and that did help with his allergies, it took a few days back at home to get them under control again. But just like your DD, he was a trooper and enjoyed his first trip to Disney.

Forgot to mention the abundance of pine trees as well. I think it was just a ton of different allergens in the air everywhere we went. Lots of things that I don't think about b/c I have never had allergies. Such as, it seemed like all of the restrooms had those automatic "air fresheners." All of the cute shops in Epcot have fragrances for sell. Although both smell nice, it is a disaster for allergies :)

from seasonal allergies. I have asthma and have to really watch everything. We are flying and I was hoping to not have to pack my nebulizer machine but, my husband really wants me too. I also have sleep apnea and did not want to take my c-pap machine either but, know that I should. I am just worried about the flying and not having much room like we normally do with driving. I have never flown before and neither has our daughter.

We are going from June 5-12. Does anyone have any advice????

TIA

Heather

Heather, You will have a great time at Disney!

I would take everything with you that could make your Disney trip the best that it can be! The worst case is that you don't need it. I would have liked to have something more with me so that my daughter could enjoy herself to her fullest.

You will have plenty of luggage space... 2 bags (under a certain weight limit) for each airline ticket purchased. So that's 4 bags for you and your husband!
If you have to carry on any medical equipment on the plane, you should find the flight attendants very helpful. My 4 yo has logged about 10 rt flights and my 18 month old started flying at 8 weeks. I have only had one inconsiderate attendant in all those flights, and it could have just been a bad day for her. The time goes by pretty quickly.

Not sure your daughters age, but my mistake on our first trip was taking a ton of toys, books, etc. (All the websites suggest this) They just got in the way. I never take toys with me anymore. I take snacks... treats that they never get at home. Maybe 1 favorite doll and a blanket. You will be served a drink- my daughter can't wait for the apple juice and snacks. The attendant will even put it in your sippy cup for you too. Maybe borrow a portable DVD player if your daughter is old enough to hold her interest. I just found that I was always digging through the toys to try to get something I needed or they were rolling down the aisle. Take a couple of changes of clothes for her because you have the entire time at your departing airport, the plane flight, and then all the time before you actually check in with your bags!

Don't worry at all about flying... it goes by super fast! Once you're on the last leg of your flight, everyone on the plane will have Disney fever too as you are all going to Orlando! There will probably be lots of moms and kids that will be sitting near you...

Good Luck! Katherine

I really feel a lot better after your wonderful advice. :thumbsup2

I had heard that if my c-pap machine did not fit in the carry on area that they would take it away from me and also ship it home. I will have to ask my friend that is a pilot about all that.

Our DD8 will be 9 years old by the trip. She is so excited about it all. The whole family DH, DD and myself are really looking forward to this trip. My DH is laughing at me for doing so much research but when we get there he will be glad I have done all that. :rotfl:

Thanks for all the wonderful advice.

My son is the same. Asthma & allergies. He takes clarinex & nasonex in the morning & zyrtec & singulair at night. I always take those meds. Plus a new RX for Predinisone. The handy dandy nebulizer comes with us & the inhaler & 2 meds go with us to the parks. Florida seems to just flair it all up for him! It su**s!!!! Good Luck to everyone else!!!

I also take nasonex, patanol, and I used to take zyrtec (claritin is what I take now)......it's helpful to shower and get the pollen out of your DD's hair (before bed is really important). I find this helpful. Good Luck! pixiedust: pixiedust: and have a magical trip.

FYI, check www.pollen.com
You can add on Orlando Zip Code (32824) to get an idea of the current pollen count.
Recently it has been very high due to the lack of rain....
I have been taking antihistamines like candy the past few days.
