If you were to choose one French restaurant, which one would you choose?

Hello,

My son and I never had French food and was thinking we might try it on our May trip.

What is your favorite French restaurant in Disney World (which park/resort) and what did you get?

Thank you

Monsieur Paul, Epcot.
Soupe aux truffes VGE. Created by Paul Bocuse and named for former French President Valéry Giscard d’Estaing (the VGE in the title), the soup offers beef broth and finely diced oxtail, carrots, onions, and celery, with a larger dice of mushroom pate, flavored with generous slices of black winter truffle and crowned with puff pastry.

Chefs de France. DH and I usually get a bottle of wine, a cheese plate and a charcuterie plate to share and we each get a house salad with bacon. For the entree, we each get steak frites. It's a very classic meal.

For a first time, I would go Chef de France. We have had many experiences at all the Epcot French eateries but it sounds like you really are looking at table service. As great as Monsieur Paul is (the service we have had is just amazing including once when our little daughter decided she had to go to the bathroom right as food came out, the waiter realized my wife's duck was getting too cold so he brought a new one out and replaced the old one when she got back to the table, no asking, no charge, just a simple we want you to enjoy), you really end up with just an entree each and maybe an app. If you want to taste a variety French cuisine, Chef De France has a better selection of apps and shareable dishes that are still really good. With de France, you can order multiple things to share and try, spend less than you would at Paul's, and feel like you have been on more of a culinary adventure. And if you really liked what you ate, try to get a dinner reservation upstairs at Paul's the next day!

Is there dress code for Monsieur Paul?
Disney says:
“ Men must wear khakis, slacks or dress shorts and collared shirts. Jeans may be worn if in good condition. Sport coats are optional.
Women must wear Capri pants, skirts, dresses or dress shorts. Jeans may be worn if in good condition.
Not permitted are tank tops, flip-flops, swimsuits, swimsuit cover-ups, hats for gentlemen, cut-offs, torn clothing and t-shirts with offensive language and/or graphics.”

On my last two visits I have seen plenty of people there in standard shorts and T-shirts theme park attire. Personally I will still wear shorts but upgrade to a polo/golf shirt from a T-shirt if I’m eating there that day.

Is there dress code for Monsieur Paul?
No

I'd agree with Monsieur Paul as the best French restaurant on property. However, for somebody that hasn't tried French cuisine, Chefs de France might be the better option. More choices, and "American friendly" menu.

Is there dress code for Monsieur Paul?
Yes but I have seen it lightly enforced. That said, we always dress a little nicer to go because it has that feel of a nice restaurant and we would feel under dressed in a t-shirt. Shirt with a collar for the guys and a dress gals is all you need.

We've tried Chefs du France a bunch of times and always good.

Last trip we finally tried Mr. Pauls and that Oxtail Soup definitely was the highlight (I'd expect a bowl of soup to be awesome at $30 +tax/tip). We ordered 2 apps, 4 different meals and 4 different desserts. It was enjoyable but the meal downstairs is just as enjoyable and half the price. The one thing that especially irked me was our waiter kept removing plates as soon as one person paused for a moment on that course. We had 3 courses in under an hour so it wasn't like we were taking too long. Not really fine dining in that regard.

We love both, however, for an intro to French food I would definitely choose Chefs de France. Monsieur Paul is a bit more adventurous and I do think for older tastebuds. My kids all eat there, and they are not mac and cheese type kids, although they do like that as a treat too, but I think you'll find Chefs de France is wonderful and you'll find it a bit more pleasing to a newbie to French cuisine.

Chefs de France would be my suggestion for someone trying French cuisine for their first time. The menu is geared towards the American palate. It's like a very nice pub.

Monsieur Paul is 'the best' French restaurant on property, but I'm guessing that it might be a bit much - unless you really want to try 'fancy food'. Then again, this might be the 'over-the-top' experience you'd prefer during your vacation.

Regardless, we enjoy both places.

For a lighter meal, you might also try the offerings at Les Halles, the quick service restaurant in the French pavilion. Lots of great options, and allows you to get a sense of French food without spending much.

If you're not accustomed to French cuisine, Les Chefs de France will be the safer option; however, Monsieur Paul is exquisite.

Monsieur Paul, easily.
However, if you've never tried French Cuisine before, I would do Chef de France first. Its very good, but on the safer side.
If you enjoy that, next time try Monsieur Paul.

I love French food...would love to try Monsieur Paul one day.
Although I have been to Chefs de France and i think its delish. For the app, the cheese plate is really good. Big portion too. For the main I had the Boeuf Bourguingnon and it was delicious. Creme Brulee for dessert was outstanding as well. I highly recommend.

This is incorrect. As a signature restaurant it does have a dress code.

However, it is probably lightly enforced because some people simply don't care about following guidelines and Disney is not going to forgo revenue in favor of enforcing dress codes in their fine restaurants to preserve the signature dining experience.
