If you were on the fence about DVC . . would the announcement of Universal's Epic Universe Make You Reconsider DVC or Reconsider Adding a Contract?

No, if I want to visit Universal I will. It’s going to take years to build. They started with hotels to make some money before the park. 750 acres is nothing compared to what WDW has to build with. Eventually they will announce another park, but when?

No, I really have a bad taste in my mouth about Universal. Several years ago we went there and getting on ET ride which was 3 seats across and we were a family of 4, they made me ride alone in another row, would not allow us to ride 2 and 2. I am never going back.

There big announcement was an announcement of pretty much nothing. No specifics. Refused to answer any questions. We all knew they were going to build another park with the land they bought back a year or two ago.

The announcement doesn’t move me either way. I’m not buying or selling DVC based on Universal, at this time. How does it impress you, @Mickey of the Villages?
If the blue-sky drawing that was shown is actually built I believe Universal would be capable of going head-to-head with the best of Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. IMO they are presenting a vision as spectacular as the vision for Magic Kingdom. Someone who goes to WDW every year may find themselves going every other year so they can visit this. With this announcement I think one must believe that Universal intends to compete head-to-head with Disney.

Can't start this project too soon, IMO. The last time Universal opened a park (Volcano Bay), we DVC members got some good deals on annual passes. I may or may not want to visit a new park, but I am always in favor of ticket discounts, LOL.

The solution to those types of rides is to split yourself up into 2 groups of 2, then at least you're not riding alone. :-)

would this make you reconsider purchasing DVC? Or adding a contract?
We would not buy more points at DVC simply because of UO opening another park. When we do universal it is usually for a couple days, we stay on property at UO to get the express pass as to not waste DVC points and travel time going back and forth to universal. Then we move on to our WDW stay.

I hated universal too. Just intensely hated the overall vibe. Nothing they do would get me to visit again. If the new park is anything like what they have on offer now, Disney, in my opinion only, still offers the superior experience. I do like the idea of being able to piggy back off of it via discounts. Hadn’t thought about that until I read this thread.

Comcast. Enough said.

We love Universal...Actually more than Disney now.

So much that we're keeping our Universal AP's, but decided to not buy Disney passes of any kind again, unless they ever decide to offer the Epcot After 4 pass to DVC members. The announcement wouldn't sway us either way, but we're happy to stay at SSR or OKW & Uber over to Universal. We sometimes grab a night or two at one of the Universal resorts for express. We pack an overnight bag and If we partake too much :) & decide to stay, we have a room to crash. We keep the bulk of out luggage in our DVC unit which is like our home base.

Competition is good!!!

I'm just not sure how many people who are contemplating a $30k investment in a Disney timeshare would be swayed by Universal expansion. If you're a huge Universal fan, you probably aren't buying DVC. (Some would, but not a lot)

If you're a Disney fan, WDW probably has enough projects in the hopper to keep you content.

I can't help but think that Universal deliberately made this announcement now to get out ahead of whatever Disney reveals at D23, including the re-working of Epcot.

This is what we plan on doing when the kids are a bit older and we want to go to Universal. A few days on property with Express should be plenty and then we’d spend at least a week at WDW afterwards. The announcement doesn’t impact our DVC ownership. Disney will still be ideal for us for a while since I feel like there just isn’t enough at Universal for toddlers compared to Disney.

No. Hopefully DVC members will benefit from it. I would not be surprised if there was not a big announcing at D23 either. Time will tell

Universal adding a 750 acre park - would this make you reconsider purchasing DVC? Or adding a contract
Nope, not in the least but not in the market. Those that are, well, i’d Consider it a bonus.

How can having more options in a vacation area you own a TS be a detriment?

That said, we keep APHs for both parks & typically SW too. Before the weekend point reallocation years ago, we would decamp to onsite at Universal. It’s become an established way of vacation life for us...the best of both ‘worlds’

As for the ‘epic’ announcement, it’s obviously in response to the upcoming SWGE opening. The release was vague, at best, especially as to how they will execute the content & timing of the park’s opening.

Nope, we bought 22 years ago and still haven't been to Universal. We did go to SeaWorld twice, but that was because we got free tickets with our stay using Hilton Honors. We did park at one of the Universal hotel parking garages two weeks ago when our son had a meeting there. But that's it.

We've thought about it, but we don't do many rides any more.

Over the last two years, I’ve been wondering if universal might look to start their own vacation club??? And, I’m curious if Disney vacation club members would be interested in universal’s club, or if it would a different sub group all together? I know land or lack of is an issue though.

I think this may be a game changer. (Although no thoughts on how it will affect DVC Membership).
For most years Disney has raised the bar, and forced others to keep up.
In recent years the competition has pushed the bar up and make Disney try to stay above. Big difference.
With all the cuts at Disney... well, we shall see.

After all... many top imagineers now work for universal.
