YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70'S
> IF.....

you wore that rainbow shirt that was half-sleeves, and the rainbow went up one sleeve, across your chest, and down the other.

you made baby chocolate cakes in your Easy Bake Oven. You washed them down with snow cones from your Snoopy Snow Cone Machine.

you had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that
actually worked.

you owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a basket.

you even owned roller skates with metal wheels.

you thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute.(Admit it!)

you had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island.

you had rubber boots for rainy/snowy days - remember Moon
Boots(you then advanced to Duck Shoes in the 80s)?

you had either a "bowl cut" or a "pixie", not to mention the
"Dorothy Hamill" because your mom was sick of braiding your hair. How traumatic when people thought you were a boy.

your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized possession.

you wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers.

you begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon.

you had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple
shredded outfits.

you spent hours out back on your metal swing set with the trapeze.

you had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color.

you even had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard
sole & the buckle).

you wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that
Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture; and you despised Nellie Olson!

you wanted your first kiss to be at the roller rink.

your hairstyle was described as having "wings" and you kept it
"pretty" with the comb you kept in your back pocket.

you know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends,
Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.

you carried a Muppets lunch box to school.

you and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of
Hazzard was your boyfriend.

every now and then "It's A Hard Knock Life" from the movie,"Annie" will pop into your brain and you can't stop singing it the whole day.

YOU had Star Wars action figures, too.

it was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard
of Oz" would come on TV. Your mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags!

you even asked your Magic-8 Ball the question: "Who will I marry...Shawn Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or Rick Springfield?"

you completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and
Fame soundtrack albums.

you tried to do lots of arts and crafts things, like yarn and
Popsicle stick God's Eyes of those weird potholders made on a plastic loom.

you made Shrinky-Dinks!

you used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your
portable tape recorder up to the speaker.

you couldn't wait to get the free animal poster that came when
you ordered books from the Weekly Reader book club.

you learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from
Judy Blume books (Are you there God? It's me, Margaret.)

you thought Olivia Newton John's song, "Physical" was about
aerobics.

you wore friendship pins on your tennis shoes, or shoelaces with
heart or rainbow designs.

you wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer.

you had a Big Wheel with a brake on the side, and a Sit-n-Spin.

you had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat.

O M G!!!!!!!

My brother and I fought so much over that darned Big Wheel and who could do the best donuts with it!!!!!

And I LOVED my banana seat bike - was even banana colored!!!!!

And can you believe - when my dd was little I looked all over for a doctor kit with that same type of stethoscope!!!!

Oh dear!!!! Why do I all of a sudden feel old and I'm not even 35!!!!!

What memories - we DID fight over which Dukes of Hazzard we were gonna MARRY - not just be our boyfriend!!!!

ROFL - what memories!

Not only did I own the Saturday Night Fever Album, I actually OWNED the John Travolta album....he can't sing worth a lick, but I didn't care!:)

Oh my, that was so me! I had the Holly Hobbie stuff, wanted to be Laura Ingalls, and had Strawberry Shortcake dolls!
And Fantasy Island did give me nightmares!

I saw the strawberry shortcake dolls at TARGET!!!

Anybody feel like reliving their childhood?

Lisajl

I like Shawn Cassidy:)

That was great fun!! I almost forgot about the barrettes and I HATED my dorothy hamil haircut. I also loved the smurfs remember them?
Thanks

What a hoot! Many of those are true for me. I turned 13 in the middle of the 70's, so the later things (Duke's of Hazzard, Leif Garrett) don't resonate as much. I loved Donny Osmond and Bobby Sherman and David Cassidy. We used to kiss the posters before we went to bed!

How about Bonnie Bell Lip Smackers - anyone remember those? How about double-zipper jeans (they were very flattering, by the way!)?

Very cute post! It made me smile and remember!

Oh yeah, Moon Boots!

I was 9 in 1970. Thanks for that blast from the past!

OMG...I had the Dorothy Hamill cut...definitely on the leif Garret...stoof outside a record store for 3 hours to mmet him, then almost ended up in the hospital...lol. I still have my rainbow shirt, and every Donny and Marie record ever made .....ok, now I know I am old.

Yep, I remember that and that and.... oh heck, I remmber ALL of it!
And the Dorothy Hamill haircut can never be denied by me as it is my hair cut in my 9th grade year book! LOL

you wore that rainbow shirt that was half-sleeves, and the rainbow went up one sleeve, across your chest, and down the other. ...YES

you made baby chocolate cakes in your Easy Bake Oven. You washed them down with snow cones from your Snoopy Snow Cone Machine. ... The metal inside the snow cone machine always crushed from the ice cubes:( .

you had either a "bowl cut" or a "pixie", not to mention the
"Dorothy Hamill" because your mom was sick of braiding your hair. How traumatic when people thought you were a boy... OMG!

you had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple
shredded outfits. ...My 4 year old daughter now has the Donny doll, the shredded Marie dress, and all that is left of the Marie doll is the head.

you even had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard
sole & the buckle). ...yep

it was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard
of Oz" would come on TV. Your mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags! ...Loved that.

you tried to do lots of arts and crafts things, like yarn and
Popsicle stick God's Eyes of those weird potholders made on a plastic loom. ...OMG the loom, what was the purpose?

you used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your
portable tape recorder up to the speaker. ...Yes

you couldn't wait to get the free animal poster that came when
you ordered books from the Weekly Reader book club....yes

you learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from
Judy Blume books (Are you there God? It's me, Margaret.) ...I got in trouble for reading "Forever"

Thanks for the step into the way back machine.;)

Should I go dig out Strawberry shortcake and friends?

Too funny!! I had both the pixie and the Dorothy Hamil cut. I loved my Easy Bake oven and my brother had the shrinky dinks.

My girlfriend just adored Paul Michael Galsier (Starsky and Hutch) and had posters of him all over her bedroom.

I, too had the Rainbow shirt. I also had moon shoes, platforms and Buffalo shoes!!

funny thing, my DD (6) just got shrinky dinks for Christmas.......

Shawn Cassidy made my heart thump!

It was a huge deal to watch Dukes of Hazzard on the weekend. My friends and I would have sleep overs and watch it. Same with the Wizard of Oz and the Sound of Music. I remember my dad making the jello cooked pudding and eating it warm with the skin on the top. Yum!

Thank you so much for this thread, it's wonderful. Yes, I remember those things, only too well. Especially the part about Fantasy Island. I've been terrified (phobic) of "little people" since I was a kid and could never figure out why. I think I just got it!

I turned 12 in 1970 so I wasn't exactly a little girl but thanks for the smile reading these brought to my face! I especially remember the "wing" style bangs, the Easy Bake Oven, sno-cone machine, etc. I still have the Donny & Marie dolls downstairs somewhere. I even had the "real" Donny autograph his doll a few years ago after a performance of Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat!
