Couldn't you get the credit for the difference? I'm very confused! I always thought if you purchased something, and then saw it on sale a few days following that purchase, you would get credit on the difference . . .

Not according to JCPenney . . . I ordered some stuff online on October 2nd . . .two of those items went on sale October 4th . . .(a difference of $26.00) when I called JCPenney to find out how I get the credit they told me that they couldn't do that because I bought the stuff before it went on sale and that it wouldn't apply to my recent order?? Does that make any sense?

Maybe if you purchase them online they have different rules...but If the difference was as much as you mentioned I'd think of returning the items and reordering them...

I guess it all depends on the store policy. If it is that much of a difference you could always buy it on sale and then wait a fews days and take it back with the old nonsale reciept.

I would return the stuff and then buy it on sale.

Return and rebuy... also, let the manager know what you were told

The only problem with return and rebuy is that they don't cover shipping on the return, (this was an online purchase) so you are not going to save very much by the time it is all said and done.
There isn't a law that says they have to credit you but a lot of stores do as good customer service policy.

I had this happen with J. C. Penny one time with stuff I ordered out of the Big Book, and then saw it on sale in one of their sale catalogs...not sure if this is the same as you are talking about.

Anyway, they told me after I received the items, to have the receipt with the invoice number, call their catalog customer service # and they would do the price adjustment and refund the difference to my credit card. The customer service number is different than the one that you order from. It has to do with billing inquiries and I think the catalog order phone number is just that...to order from only.

Hope this is the same situation and it helps.

I work p/t at Penneys and we've done adjustments for as long as I've worked there (8 years). Most stores do this as it is just good for business. Each store may have different rules regarding the adjustment, but for most places you have to have your original receipt, bring it with you into the store while the item is still on sale, and come in within a certain time span, usually 1-2 weeks. some stores may restrict adjustments on one day sales. Just go back and ask to speak to a mgr. JC Penney is very customer oriented-I'm sure they will do everything they can to make you happy:D

Before you return and rebuy, I would call JC Penney again and ask to speak to a manager, because it is just good customer service to give you the adjustment. I had the same problem a few years ago and I ended up writing JC Penny a letter and ultimately got my adjustment. Good luck.

with the return and rebuy theory. A;though Alex had a good point too. Not sure of Penney's policy, but most major retailers will adjust your cost. We bought a big screen TV from 6th Ave back in March. We saw it at a new low price the next week and they very nicely adjusted $500 off the purchase.  I was actually a bit shocked that they did this, but hey - I went back when I needed a camcorder. Good luck!

As I was reading the title of this thread, I thought of the only time I wasn't able to do this, and it was at JC Penny's. The difference was one day, it wasn't an online purchase, either. I had purchased some bath towels there, the next day they had a 20% coupon that they were handing out at the door for credit card holders. I ran home and got the towels and asked for my adjustment, the sales clerk told me she couldn't give me an adjustment. So I told her I wanted to return them, which I did, and then I repurchased the items with my coupon. Seemed like the most ridiculous thing, and a waste of time and effort on her part, but I got my 20% off.

I believe the difference here is that the OP purchased the items "on-line" and for the most part, I don't think that going to the store will help you get the adjustment.

Again, call the customer service 800 number after you receive the item with an invoice # on it and they should be able to help you out, and make the adjustment.

And with the taking a coupon back after a few days to get a sale price, I think this is different than getting a price adjustment because something is now on sale. The coupons are not usually for previous purchases and constitute a special promo, not a "sale" on the item. Most stores don't honor coupons like that after the fact. Its not considered the same as when an item actually was on sale, the coupon is usually some sort of promotional deal. Lots of times the registers won't let the clerks do that type of coupon promo without showing it as a return and then re-ringing the items with the % taken off.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

I should be receiving the shipment today, so I'm going to call again to Customer Service to see if I can get the credit.

I'll post once I know . ..

Thanks again!!

:D

Return and reorder --- but use code HUNDRED when you re-order. This is a code thru JCP right now [thru 10/9] for free shipping. You may lose the shipping you paid this first time but the new order would be shipped FREE.
Good Luck
:)
