The subtle theming was a big one for us, too. I don't necessarily mind the "over-the-top" theming of other resorts, but the reason we bought at RIV is because you are supposed to buy where you want to stay, and we were worried that many years of "lodge" or "African" theming would start to grate on my brain. That's less likely to happen at RIV, because the theming isn't in-your-face.

I agree. We love the themeing at RIV and when we were there last I just felt so relaxed when we were at the resort.

We are staying at AKV coming up which I am super excited about, I have always wanted to stay there. Buuutttt........I know one of the frequent complaints about the villas there is how dark they are. I have looked at photos of the rooms before and noticed it was dark but couldn't quite figure out what the problem with it was but after the bright airiness of the RIV rooms they now look SO dark in comparison. I can see that wearing on me pretty quick.

The darkness might not bother you. I own RIV but AKV is my second favorite resort. I sleep so much better at AKV and I think maybe part of that is because it’s a little darker.

That's a fair point. We have only stayed at RIV, OKW, SSR and DH spent one night at BCV as far as DVC resorts go and so far RIV is our favorite by far but we do want to try out other resorts. They all have their pros and cons of course. I'm super excited to see how our family feels about AKV.

DS will be 4 and loves animals so I'm sure it will have his vote but we'll see.
