If you have two homes, one in FL, are you considered a Florida resident?

We could be relocating to the north (Brrr!!!) but would still have a home in Florida.

Would I still be able to take advantage of Florida resident status? I figure the snowbirds out there would have the answer for me!

thanks in advance,
Jodifla (jodidetroit just doesn't have the same ring to it!!)

My daughter has a friend that lives in Pittsburgh but has a house in FL and she's considered a resident. I think you have to have proof of residency with utility bills or something like that with the FL address on it and your name. I also wonder if you could renew your drivers license in FL if you have the same address?

Yes, you can get the Florida resident rate. I know someone who has a house here but lives in NY 11.5 months a year. I'm not sure how she proved "residency"... I'm guessing she brought some sort of a utility bill.

Technically, you shouldn't be able to keep your Florida driver's license if you hae one from your new state of residence. I think that states require you to surrender your previous driver's license. When I moved to NY for a year, they required me to hand over my Florida license at the DMV office... then told me that they would mail my new driver's license to me. So I was without a photo ID for a week! Try explaining to the department store clerk that your check is really good when you've just got a piece of paper that says "the driver's license is in the mail!"

I assume you are asking about eligibility for Disney Florida resident discounts (rather than for voting or paying taxes, LOL).

Here are Disney's requirements:

Florida Resident Guidelines

Best wishes -

CarolMN, I did read that, but still wasn't clear on the requirements. For example, if I have a Mich. Driver's license and a current utility bill from my Florida residence, will that do? That's what I'm unclear on.

Maybe I just won't get a Michigan license! Again, I'm curious to know what all the snowbirds do....

It looks like this is what I could get from Fla. Driver's license office. I wonder if that would be enough to satisfy the requirements.

Part-time Resident

Drivers who hold a Class D or E license and are part-time residents may elect to retain their valid out-of-state license and receive a Florida license which states "Valid in Florida Only."

I heard you have to reside in FL for a total of six months and a day to be a resident. I think someone on the DVC boards has this info.

Sorry to be so vague.

That came up on the question regarding DVC members being considered Florida residents because of property ownership via DVC. That is not enough to be considered a Florida resident.

I have a FL address but not a FL drivers lic. I was told by several Disney Guest Relations that now you will need a valid FL lic or FL id card from DMV. A utility bill will not work any longer.

This will hurt me because the next time I be in FL will be Christmas and will not be able to get a FL lic or ID before I have to renew my annual pass.

That's exactly what we have. We have a family condo in Fort Myers, and our licences. It's exactly what we need.

I think you can get a Florida ID card and keep a drivers license from your state of primary residence.

FL id cards are valid for 6 years. Get one before you move. ;)

We moved here from IL last year. DH used his IL license in conjunction with a utility bill for discount purposes. He is not able to get a FL DL(no birth certificate, long story, and I know he will have to eventually).
So this will no longer be accepted? We were planning to purchase some "Play4Days" passes....

My friend who lives here in GA full-time, and owns a home in Florida was not able to get a discounted pass from Disney. They said the utility bill was not enough, she had to have the DL or ID.

so, storybookmum, that secondary DL gets you Florida resident rates?

What about a current property tax bill?

what if a friend moved from florida to another state
and hasn't got a new driver's license from the "new" state?

he still has his valid florida license and it's good for another 2 years???
