capris pants??? Let's just say I'd be VERY surprised if anyone reading this has bigger calves than me! I'm not slim, but I'm not terribly heavy either. It's a genetic thing! I broke down and bought a pair a few weeks ago but have still not worn them. I remember Oprah had a show on do's and don'ts and one don't was to NOT wear capris if you've got large calves. The thing is, I see them EVERYWHERE and they're perfect for that temperature in between shorts and pants. What do you do?? :cool1:

One of my sisters and I both have "dad's calves"...not giant but pretty bulky. We both wear capris but then again I don't really follow the do's and don't lists so maybe I shouldn't be! ;)

Now, one thing that really ticks me off each year is I can NEVER find a pair of tall boots that will zip over my calves. :sad2:

I just wish I could buy a pair of capris and not them end up looking like nicely tailored slacks. Even when I buy the "petite" capris, they still come to my ankle. I hate being short.

i don't have huge calves, but they are not petite either. i wear capris all the time, since the last time i wore shorts was some time in high school. they look fine on me, as long as you get ones that aren't too tight through the leg. that was a problem for me more a few years ago though - this years seem to be cut a little wider through the leg.

I thought it was just me! I can't find boots either and I'm not giant. Just big legs. I swear it's genetic as both my cousins have huge calves too. It's funny because the more I work out my legs etc the bigger they get!

I wear capri's. I usually wear straight or wider cut ones and ones than can be cuffed around the calf and they don't look horrid.

I'm also short so I really look like I'm wearing floods a lot of the time. I nearly always wear flip flops or sandles with my capris which helps with slimming the leg since my ankles are of normal size.

I watched the same Oprah show.........and if I remember correctly they said that most people should not wear capris, only tall thin woman. So I started looking at people wearing them and I have to say I do not agree with her. I have seen very few people that don't look good in them. I say wear what you want and feel comfortable in.

I have very thick muscular calf muscles from playing softball for 15 years. I wear capris all the time! Sometimes I find that they can be a little tight at around my calves but not much!

I could care less what they say on those shows because I wear what I like and what I feel comfortable in! Who am I trying to impress, DH? :rotfl2:

I agree with the tall boots comment! I have a real hard time finding a pair of those that will fit me!!!

Okay, I never thought I would have an opportunity to tell this story on the Dis but since you brought up big calves I have to share. The story will sound like its not related but you have to wait for the punchline and you'll get it.

I duck hunt a lot and am very cheap so I hunt with friends on public lands and one of the places we go is East of Houston at Anahuac Wildlife Refuge which is a Federal facility. Each time we hunt on the way out there is a gentleman at the gate who will ask to see your birds and a lot of times take the gizzard out of them so the biologists can check for lead poisoning of the birds. The guys name was Bill and he was an older Black gentleman who we had got to know over the years. We were asking him about the biologists on the refuge and if they had got any new ones this year and he said " yeah they sent an ole girl down here to work but she did'nt last to long. She was a big leg ole girl and she could'nt a leg in the boot, can't get yo leg in the boot, can't work in the marsh." My buddy and I were biting our tounges trying to keep from laughing but old Bill said it with the straightest face you have ever seen. We just got in the truck and got out of there as fast as we could and laughed all the way home.

I have some on right now.

I can't wear the fitted capris but the straight leg ones (not flared but not fitted and come to mid calf) look fine on me, I think. :confused3

I love capris - but I only buy the ones with the wider legs. I can't stand the tighter ones. Those you have to a certain body shape to look good in, and I don't! But I think the wider leg ones look cute on just about everyone

I wear capris, I love them. The trick is, like everyone here says, don't get the stretch tight ones. Make sure they are long enough so they don't end right above the calf.

I'm short with fairly large calf muscles (have a hard time with boots, and I am NOT overweight) but I found the cargo style capris look pretty good on me. With the tie at the bottom, I can make them as "fitted" and as "short/long" as I want them to be. They look fine to me. The flared ones are a HUGE no no!

Well at the HS where I work there is no AC, my room is on the 2nd floor and I get the sun from sunup until about 2PM--so in fall and spring I have to find something at least semi-professional to wear that won't bake me to death. I love capris. I have denim, white and khaki. I may buy another pair or two for fall. I am mid-sized, I would say--lucky to be 5'7" . I don't get tight anything!
As for Oprah telling me what to wear--for pete's sake, why do people listen to coddled, self-important celebrities!

I have "cankles"...no defined ankle bone, and my legs are NOT muscular. I am tall, 5'9 and average weight, around 135... but add to the mix spider veins. :sad2: SO, no matter what Oprah says, or Glamour do/don't says...I am in my capri's thankfully hiding the veins and wrongly wearing..."gasp" new balance Gym shoes with the capris as I have very sore/tired feet ALL the time...no cute trendy sandals for me. I am quite the fashion statement during the summer...and I don't care! I live for summer..and am even in shorts a lot, veins and all...but do wear the capris. So now that y'all have this nasty image of me, Ithink I'll hit the summer sales for some more capris!

Pam

I used to didn't, but now I do. As long as I shop carefully, I think they look fine. I wear them to work almost every day in the summer. I even have a dressy pair with a matching top that I'll wear with heels to our annual meeting next week.

I've always been afraid to try them because I have skinny calves! I have big hips, but little stick legs. I thought it would look funny so I've never tried them on.
