2 rooms at Pop or 1 cabin at Fort Wilderness, which would you choose? We are a family of 5 (kids are: 9,9,15).
The more I look at Fort Wilderness, it seems like fun!
What do you think?

Our family of 5 enjoyed FW, there were 2 bunks and a double bed in the bedroom. DH and I slept on the pull down-Murphy bed in the living room. Of course, our kids were smaller than yours, so it was nice to be able to put them in bed, shut the door, and watch tv. Only thing we didn't care for was that the pools are boring. Not sure what the pools are like at Pop.

FW ! I just don't like the feel and look of Pop... and my best friend and family love it...
I love FW.

That said, we have never stayed on site... but that is cause we own at GP/GPGV just off site and EGB. We did not know about the DVC when we bought this other time share... sigh....

But given the chance I will still save for FW over a Pop. We go over to both Fort Wilderness and the Lodge each trip for food or just to walk and look.

I would chose 2 rooms at the POP. That way we would have two bathrooms and no kitchen. I'm on vacation and wouldn't want to cook. I did that once and it was not a vacation for me.

My kids absolutely loved the FW cabin we stayed in last May. They "took over" the bedroom, and loved the bunks with the tv in the room. It is so nice to have a kitchen, even you only keep snacks and breakfast items in it. I also really enjoy having real furniture to sit on, not just beds. My 3 kids also loved the towel animals that were left everyday. It's just a different, fun atmosphere. I highly recommend renting a golf cart, if you can. My Kids got such a kick out of riding in it, too. It's also fun to attend the campfire sing-a-long with Chip and Dale, and go to the Hoop-de-doo since it's on-site. We had a rental car, but never had a long wait for buses when we used them occassionally. :thumbsup2

Well, we are on the dining plan, but it would make it much easier on having cereal and such in the morning...

Momof2sons has a good point about the 2 rooms! and the kitchen. I sometimes feel like that about cooking while on vacation. But on the other hand I like the kitchen cause I can get a glass of milk, coffee, or hot brownies/pizza in a very short time!
And I think I saw that Pop is going to have some rooms that are a little bigger and have a small kitchenette area? This was a few weeks ago, but there were some posts about the Pop or Music doing the new rooms and having a test run of them now for this summer? That way you could have the best of both worlds.

I saw the pool at Music and it was just a pool with a very nice paint job and theaming that was not nearly as exciting as some of the more expensive resorts. But you arn't paying 2-3x's as much as you would at some of the other resorts....

Stayed in a cabin and loved it. Rented a gulf cart, it was a lot of fun. Whatever your decision, have a great vacation.

I put in a request to our TA to give me a quote on that pkg, so I'll see how much more its going to cost.

Do you like peace and quiet? Go for the FW cabins. If more bathroom space trumps kitchen facilities, go for connecting rooms in a value. If you like to take a boat to MK, or rent sea raycers, or go to campfires, or be close to HoopDeDoo, choose FW. If you like lots of screaming teens and hearing other people flush, do the values.

lol..ok!! I am leaning more towards the cabins...I think the kids would enjoy the stuff there and if they want a movie to watch at night, that is fine too. Plus my dh loves a campfire. He totally relaxes being around a campfire.

We stayed at a FW cabin last May & are returning to the cabins this June. We adored them!

It felt very Disney-ish to me w/o screaming "Disney", if that makes sense. The cabin was so clean & had paintings of Disney scenes on the wall. DH & I slept on the Murphy bed, and the kids slept in the bedroom. We got towel animals every day. We too had the dining plan but it was very nice to have a full kitchen for breakfast & for snacks. Our Mousekeeper was wonderful! I tried to keep things picked up, but, if I even left dishes in the sink, she put them in the dishwasher & ran it for us. And she brought plenty of towels & Mickey soap & shampoo every day too.

This year, when we began planning our trip, I asked our kids where their favorite place to eat had been last year. DS replied, "When Daddy grilled hot dogs in our little cottage." Out of all the restaurants we tried, his favorite was the evening DH grilled hot dogs & brats on the little grill on the cabin's deck.

The kids called our cabin a "little cottage", and, this this year, when we were contemplating staying at either the CBR or the WL, our kids couldn't believe that we wouldn't be staying in the little cottages.

There's so much to do at FW! We really enjoyed the nightly campfire & movie. (You can't have campfires at the cabins.) The Trail's End Restaurant was really good too - a wonderful value! Watching Wishes & the Water Parade from the beach is really nice too! Yes, the pools are kind of boring, but we never spent much time at the pools anyway - just one afternoon.

FW is quiet & restful & it almost feels like stepping back in time.

We had our mini-van, so we drove to MGM & AK. We took the boat to the MK & then the monorail (from the CR & the TTC) to EPCOT.

I only have 2 complaints -

1) While there is plenty of room in the cabins, there's not really enough drawer space for 4 people to unpack. We kept all our clothes in our suitcases.

2) When I was in a hurry to get to MK one morning (for our 8:25 am ADR at CRT), the internal bus seemed soooo slow - we had to wait the longest that morning. I didn't like being "at the mercy" of the buses - I would much rather have hopped in my car & driven to the park.

But, other than those things, we love the cabins & can't wait to go back!

The Ft. Wilderness cabins are the only place we have never stayed...and I'd really like to give them a try. I think it would be a blast for my 3 children.

For us, it would be the Cabins, Hands Down. I think they are the most overlooked Resort Gem for families in WDW. OUr first 3 trips we stayed at the Cabins & I would stay there again no questions asked.
I stayed at a Value once & would not do it again unless it was the only way I could get to WDW. Ursalasshadow really summed up the choice for us. I hated being in the values & hearing every single little sound from the rooms above, below & next to us. The space I could have cared less about, but the ability to sleep is really important to me.

The great thing about the Cabins is not just the Peace & Quiet, the Proximity to MK, the Onsite Activities....It's the Space. It's the feeling of Home. It's knowing that if you want a pot of coffee, you can. If your kids want to heat up a pizza or something, they can. If you want to have everyone grab breakfast while your getting ready, you can. If Mom & Dad want to cuddle in front of the TV after the kids go to sleep, you can. If you want to sit on your deck & just absorb the cool, quiet, solitude of a beautiful FL day, you can....

both sounds like great ideas. Since I have stayed at Pop and not FW I am partial to Pop. It is such a great resort especially for kids. Have fun.

FORT WILDERNESS for sure. I do not have any desire to stay at a value...have done so years ago. You will LOVE Fort Wilderness. We haven't tried the cabins but it's definitely on our list. We spend a lot of time at FW when we go and we keep saying we're getting a cabin, just haven't yet. We will, we will. There is so much to do. Boating, biking, campfire singalong, the movie, Hoop de Due, Backyard Barbeque. And, the relaxing country atmosphere is very very nice.

Try it! We plan on to.

All these reviews are getting me excited about our trip! I hope that it is affordable for us to go. I just know that dh would love to be in a campground, around a campfire, plus not next to others. When dd and I stayed at ASMovies, we went to bed as soon as we got back from the parks (around 10). There were people coming in at all hours of the night and it was loud! I really don't want to go through that again:)

Well, just so you realize the campfire is ONE group campfire, and you share that with the whole campground, AND Chip, AND Dale...there are no individual campfires allowed in FW. I suppose you could count huddling around your grille on your deck, though.

Another vote for Ft. wilderness. We have stayed at values for only one night(Pop and ASMo) and my kids never liked them...Go for Ft.Wilderness. Lots to do... :)

Oh yes, we realize that, he don't care where the campfire is located...he'll park his butt there until it goes out, lol.
