If you had to choose only one DVC resort

Which "home" resort would you choose if that was the only place you could stay?

  • Beach Club Villas

  • Boardwalk Villas

  • Old Key West Resort

  • Saratoga Springs Resort

  • Villas at Wilderness Lodge

I would perfectly content to stay at SSR all the time if I had to (may plan to anyway)
Wow, Mississipian, someone who actually chooses to stay at SSR :rotfl: can you believe it

BCV is much smaller than OKW, which is why rooms there are harder to get. What really surprises me is that as of now, VWL is the least popular, OKW leads it in popularity by 3 to 1.

but i am sure that if this poll was taken during christmas time VWL would be in the # 1 spot ;)

Thanks everyone for voting.

There were a couple of surprises.

VWL came in last place. I suspect that this is a resort that many people would like to stay at SOMETIMES, but not everytime. This resort is probably hurt by poor transportation and limited on-site dining.

OKW is the clear winner, beating BCV by four points. This place has many fans. I do suspect that one reason people like OKW so much is that it is possible to book larger accomodations. A two bedroom unit is bigger than at other resorts, but costs the same as a one bedroom at most places.

BCV comes in a close second. Proximity to Epcot and SAB, combined with an easy-going atmosphere make this one popular.

My home resort, BWV, came in a distant third. Based on the comments others have made, there is TOO much hustle-and-bustle here.

SSR came in fourth, just ahead of VWL. Time will tell how this resort fares. Many people clearly love it. I still think there are way too many units here.

In looking at the polling, one could infer that DVC users like large units are reasonable cost and access to premium water activities.

Is there room enough to build the Chalets of Blizzard Beach? With extra large units are reasonable point prices, of course.

I am not surprised as a BCV Home Owner that it came in so close to the top choice. The OKW is a much larger facility with a greater owner following as well. I would expect OKW to get the most votes because of its size.
It is going to be interesting as SSR sells it see if the votes start to sway its way.

If OKW is in the lead of BCV, How come i have a hard time getting a room at my Home Resort BCV
BCV is a smaller resort ? Not utiling your 4 month lead window for making reservations ? Choosing very popular/busy times to stay ? I would think summer (as well as Nov/Dec) would be a busy time for this resort over perhaps the other DVC resorts because of SAB ?

Just a comment about the poll (hope I am not repeating anyone) but if people usually buy at their favorite place, doesn't it make sense that the larger places (ones with more rooms) would probably get more votes?

I would be sad not to be able to use points at HH. I would also miss not being able to stay at the "hotel" type themed resorts. But I would definitely not leave OKW. We would probably do an add-on at HH, though.

I would not do an add-on at BWV or BCV. However, I'm sure we would be staying at Poly, CR, BW, BC, WL off and on.

I don't really know what conclusions can be drawn from the poll. Only 250 of 90,000 members are even represented. There was no accommodation made for those who might own / prefer HHI or VB.

Specifically with regard to SSR owners, how many have even had the opportunity to make ONE trip on their points, much less sample multiple resorts?

I also don't think we can necessarily concluded that many / most people do "buy where they want to stay." I suspect that the vast majority of DVC owners bought points at a resort simply because it was being offered at the time they discovered the program. Whether that resort ended up being their personal favorite is neither here nor there.

But with that said, here is a breakdown of on-site resort rooms by percentage of the total:

VWL: 9%
OKW: 37%
BWV: 27%
BCV: 14%
SSR: 13%

(Note that I'm only including the 184 Congress Park rooms for SSR that opened in 2004. I don't see how we could give consideration to Phase 2 rooms which have been open for less than 3 months.)

Now let's look at how people voted and the deviation:

VWL: 11% (+2)
OKW: 30% (-7)
BWV: 20% (-7)
BCV: 26% (+12)
SSR: 13% (0)

Clearly BCV was the big "winner" (more in demand than available), but what do the numbers really mean? Why did BWV take such a big hit? Is it just coincidence that the two oldest resorts had the largest negative deviation? Could it be that location, in and of itself, is not as valued by many as is often implied?

But where are HH and VB? (Why are we considering only the Orlando properties??)

Great analysis, and interesting point.

Sample size.

While the analysis was headed in the right direction, instead of using the onsite resort rooms % of total, use the last poll here on the Disboards stating where people own. This way you will get disboarders both times. For all we know Disboarders are a higher pct. of VWL owners.

Additionally doesn't SSR sell its rooms ahead of time? Thus more than 184 rooms of points have been sold.

Lastly, I didn't get to vote. Arrrggghhh.
