If you had a choice

If I had a choice, I'd keep it the way it is. I can understand other people's opinion on this, but I wouldn't want "King or Queen" to be one of the things I list on reservation requests! :)

lots of studio / efficiency according to II are for only 2 - the marriotts used to be - but that got changed this last time.

the marriott has a king bed and a queen sleeping sofa in their studios.

sometimes I would like a 2 queens and other times - I want just the king - depends upon who I am traveling with at the time.

if I really need the 2 queen beds - I just go with OKW studio.

II has not changed the other DVC resorts to be less than OKW - it probably could. but WDW attracts families - II wants to be able to use all the studios it gets - so it allows all the DVC resort studio to be 4.

You know, I had been thinking about just this thing. But, for the life of me I couldn't come up with an arrangement that I would prefer. There are 3 of us...myself, dh and dd, 11. We were very happy with the studio. In fact, dh who is 6'4" tall, slept on the sofa bed and found it to be decent. Only problem was his snoring. So, now we're moving to a 1 bedroom...dd and I in the master, dh on the sofa again!!! That way she can go to bed and we can stay up later.
I suppose that if you really wanted to increase your sleeping area you could take along one of those aero beds and put it on the floor next to the king. I would like there to be a 2 queen bed option in the studios at BWV tho. That way if you were doing the two bedroom unit it would work better. Don't they have that option at BC??

Like it the way it is.

Would HATE bunkbeds. They are dangerous for very young kids and impractical for those of us that hear our knees make noise when we stand up.

It would be another thing to get upset about when you book if the room type you wanted wasn't available. DVC already has issues with Standard View/BW View/Preferred View at BWV. 2 Queen Beds and Dedicated Two Bedrooms at BCV and WVL. They already get complaints from a lot of people when they end up in a smoking room or a non-smoking room they didn't want. And the issue of handicapped rooms.

We loooove the king beds, and prefer the bed-sofa set-up in the studios -- did the 2 beds in an OKW studio and it felt too much like a "hotel room" (go figure!). ;)

I'd leave 1 bedrooms the way they are, but allow 5 people in them, with a portable bed and bedding provided when there are 5 people.

Don't get me wrong...we like the king bed too. We have one at home, though...so it's not something special for us.

To make the room work better for our family, we'd prefer two queens. This is generally what we use in non-DVC vacations if we're in a regular hotel.

Bunk beds would work for us...no problems with them here.

I'm not so sure about the idea of portable bedding...they can be awfully uncomfortable (unless you are staying at a Westin where they have a "Heavenly Roll-away!). I'd take an aerobed over most hotel roll-aways...which is what we usually bring.

This is interesting, when I first joined DVC, I posted this question as well and of course got flamed. It certainly is not a money issue with us, we own 1,000 points. It is just that when my kids were toddlers they didn't want to be in a room that was fairly far away from ours in a strange place. So what we ended up doing when they were that age, we ended up getting a 2 Bedroom and all 4 of us slept in the studio, but then we had the Living Room during the day to spread out. It just seemed like a bit of a waste, but I wanted all the room of the Living Room/ Kitchen to spread out with during the day so this is what we did. Of course this was only an issue for a couple of years and they now sleep in the 2nd bedroom by themselves just fine.

II wants more DVC trades - they mostly get studios - until that changes - no way are they going to make it 2 - they want more not less - and less is what they would get if they made it 2. more people would start to trade the 1-bedroom and less trades would be make,
I believe the trading for studios has already been changed to two from what I've heard. That's OK since most other studios are in the same boat so it should be a wash. Plus the 2 BR only trade for 6 now officially. Even studios that sleep 4 only trade for 2. It is common in the industry to have trading capacity and sleeping capacity to be entirely different.

To have a single resort with a different room type would be far too difficult for DVC to deal with. What I do think would be truly helpful would be murphy beds instead of pull outs. Plus more of a real kitchen for the studios at least with read plates, silverware and basic cooking utensils.

Like anything else, it's more fun being an armchair quarterback, LOL.

Being a family of five, I think it would be great to have the option of a one bdrm with 2 queens. Of course, I understand the appeal of a king because it's what we have at home, so I would want that to remain an option as well. Perhaps a division of the rooms; some dedicated "king" rooms, and some dedicated "2 queen" rooms...or some rooms with a twin size daybed...I also loved the Murphy bed idea...or a quality rollaway (even for an extra charge).

Given the flexibility that DVC offers in all other areas (especially as it compares to other timeshares!), offering flexibility in accomodations seems logical to me :D. It makes sense to offer a mid range accomodation, i.e. 4/6/8.

One more thing--I'll happily admit that for me, it is at least partly a $$ issue. Unless I win the lottery, I'll never own hundreds of points. Therefore, options that really allow maximum flexibility of how someone like me can use their points would be a beautiful thing!

Lizardbeth I agree we would love 2 queens in the master it would make so much more sence then our kids would share that and my wife and I would sleep on the sofabed. As it is now we get a studio and have the kids in a bed with one adult and the oldes onthe floor with an airbed works just fine but we would be more apt to get a 1 bedroom more often if it was set up with 2 queens.

While I'd still snuggle with hubby, each child would have a bed so no more blanket fights. But the best point you made for me is that if there was that arrangement, then there'd be no doubt about a 1-bedroom for us either. It would make so much sense. Now I debate whether I really need a 1-bedroom since I don't use the kitchen much and it doesn't offer more bedding and sometimes go with the studio thinking even if we don't get more beds with a 1-bedroom, we get more trips for the points. THAT'S what I've been trying to say! Thanks for putting it so succinctly!

Another vote for 2 queen beds.

DS will not share a bed with his DD (and at 12 he shouldn't be anyway). Right now we get a 2BR to solve that problem. There is no advantage to the King bed for me since DH likes to cuddle and winds up on my side of the bed anyway.

We cook alot when we go so we bring either our coleman stove or the portable BBQ and do the cooking on the balcony in our studio. We look at it in the sence that we get more trips or longer trips out of a studio than a 1 bedroom for the same sleeping arrangement.

I am surprised this thread has remained so civil. Last time it was quite a discussion. I really feel a change on the boards when these different discussions come up. Seems like people are more open minded. And with so many new people, I guess that helps.

Anywhoo, it is just nicer now. Thanks

Your post about cooking on the balcony kind of worried me. Is this approved by Disney? Anyone know?

I am sure it is not approved we have also taen the bbq down to the Turtle pond area and used it there rather than the charcoal bbq's they have. It makes life easier wen you can make your own meals.

We just got back from a few days at the Jersey shore. The 1st night it was DH & DS10 in one bed, DD4 & I in the other. But DH snores so 2nd night started w/ DS & DD in one but DD bothered DS too much so it ended up w/ DS, DD & I in one and DH sprawled alone, happy as a clam. 3rd night, DS borrowed friend's sleeping bag, DD thought that looked like fun so she joined him & DH & I had our own beds but cranky kids in the am.....

I'd love two queens plus the sofabed!!
