If you find SOAT claustrophobic, would you find MS unbearable?

We've done pretty much every show, attraction and ride at Disney, with the exception of Ellen (just haven't been able to commit the 45 minutes to it), Captain EO (can't convince the family to join me), Stitch (heard about the burp and no one wants to do it now), and MS. Normally, I will go on the biggest and scariest rides and love them (or at least love them when they're over), but MS has always been formidable to me because of the claustrophobia factor and the fear of feeling sick afterwards (from the spinning--not the claustrophobia) and having a miserable day afterwards at Disney.

But I think the claustrophobia factor of MS scares me more than the spinning as I really was surprisingly on the verge of panic on SOAT once they lowered down that hood. I didn't realize that I was so claustrophobic as I have no issues on any other ride or attraction, and have never really been bothered by claustrophobia otherwise in real-world situations.

And as far as the spinning, if we're masters at teacups, and go crazy all out spinning on those, how much worse is MS?

You can go on the green side with no spinning. However, I would advise you skip Mission:Space because of the close quarters. What I would suggest is to have the rest of your family do Mission:Space and then report back to you on what they think you can handle. You can schedule a FastPass and have your family do it first at the very first opening of the window and then report back. If you think you can do it, you can go towards the end of the window. Or, have all but one of your family do it and then you can ride with the remaining member if you choose to.

I agree if you didn't like SOAT, don't do MS. I don't like either. I don't really consider myself claustrophobic ( I don't freak out in elevators or in rooms with the door shut), but I really don't care for the little pods they put you in on those rides.

Ellen is the best 45 minute air conditioned nap you can find when it is hot and crowded at EPCOT. Great when you need a break. :cat:

Also MS is a little tight. Think standing in a four person wide phone booth with no glass windows.

Sorry about the confusion with my abbreviation! I edited that.

OK, skipping MS yet once again. I don't think I'll do it until one of my kids decides they want to do it (none has asked yet, and two are super chickens, so they may never ask!) Thank you for the feedback!

And I do think we'll do Ellen this time--as far as rides, there's just not very much for us to do in Epcot, sadly. I hope that this park gets a little attention after Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios...

Obviously, I would recommend Imagination.
Too bad it is not the original with the Dream Finder. :sad1:
But Figment is still there! :)

I actually like MS and I do not enjoy tight spaces (depending). Although it is close quarters, there is cool air blowing on you. It just doesn't bother me. What about took me down (literally) was waiting for Its Tough to be a Bug. Under the tree, in the dark, with a bazillion people standing up against me, and I couldn't feel air. The lights starting going out on me! Luckily, I took deep breaths and found a pocket where there weren't people up against me and I could feel a little bit of air. I'm not sure I can do that one again! It really scared me!

Aaahhh.. The Cave under the tree. Found that relaxing.

I can understand being surrounded... like with strollers near Its a Small World! :scared1:

For me, Sum of All Thrills was worse for motion sickness and claustrophobia.

Several years ago DD and I got trapped inside (had to wait for maintenance to come let us out). I was so motion sick I had to focus hard to refrain from vomiting inside the capsule and when the ride got stuck, the lights and fan went off so it was completely dark and super hot. I have not been on since.

I have done Mission Space many times, but I'm at the point now where I plan to skip it. I'm glad I experienced it, but it's not worth the claustrophobic feeling and the motion sickness anymore.

That sounds like Hell. Seriously.

Yes, it was definitely my worst ride experience. I am a super rational and logical person, but I was seriously starting to freak out. I felt like I was going to suffocate with no air (a fan blows during the ride to simulate wind) and was starting to break out into a sweat trying to breathe through the nausea. They were very quick (it was probably only 5 minutes or so), but it felt like forever.

That experience made me realize why they have all the warnings. I know I have motion sickness and claustrophobia, but I always ignore the warnings figuring I can manage it. Even though I know I can handle the duration of the ride itself, I have to consider how I would react if I was stuck for a while. That never entered my mind before.

DO NOT go on MS if you suffer from claustrophobia. The closeness combined with the motion is a nightmare!!!
