If you dont have ebags packing cubes. Run. And get them now.

Could someone post a pic of the Ikea ones? Or the product name? I might need to go get some!

They were less in the store and there was a navy, fuchsia, and I think a lime color. They also have ponchos, suitcases, mini umbrellas, makeup bags, and in closet section great suit bags at a super low price that we're using for DD's dressapalooza wardrobe ;)

Oh! And they have the hanging shelf sweater racks at a good price (I'm a bit of an ikea addict although putting their furniture together drives me mad!).

The IKEA ones are called UPPTÄCKA. They're part of the new "Ikea Family" items, they also have colorful cute little toiletry bottles and some ponchos.

Interesting. These look different than the ebags version but I'm sure do the job. And a lot less money. My delivery should be here by Wednesday.
My house doesn't look organized most days but I do love to be organized. I guess that is part of purging to be organized.

35 days to go.
:dance3:

Where is the best place to buy these? Are all brands basically the same or are some better than others?

I did a search on the internet for packing cubes and after looking around just ordered from Ebags.com

Amazon has some. LLBean has some. I forget where else. A posted Ikea.

Thinking about getting a set of large to check out. I have two boys and a girl, 8,5,2 and am wondering if I can get away with one large for each for a week. Will mostly be shorts and tshirts with one or two long pants thrown in.

Thanks!

i'm sold on this idea! Just ordered a few from amazon in pink for me to try them out. If I like it, I'll get some gray ones for my husband and add on for my kids. Hate to spend a lot on containers for my clothes when the suitcases I already have can pretty much do that, but if they make me feel more organized and last for years to come, I can justify it! ::yes::

Mine came today. :cool1:

I have to admit they are bigger than I expected.
The slim line ones are nice size. I was planning to use for my underwear and such. Wasn't expecting to fit a weeks worth but I should be able to do that easy.

The only disappointment is I don't know that I will be able to justify buying a second set for myself. :(

Well I at least got some eggplant color slim ones for me. We'll just have to do some practice packing tonight and see what happens. I got an email from ebags today saying I can save 20% if I order more today. hmmm
Tempting but really do I NEED them?

 This feels good to know that vacation is not too far away.

EDIT: wanted to give you a testing update! I took a medium cube and a slim cube and was able to pack 7 men's large tshirts in the medium and 10 men's crew socks in the slim. Now if I took the time to fold the socks different I might have been able to fit more.
I'm impressed. I can't wait to test more.

Sierra Trading Post often has Eagle Creek packing cubes for a great price when you use a 30% off coupon (they have them all the time on their mailing list)

Thanks for the info. I'll have to check out that site.
Have you compared them in size/quality to the ebags?

I think I went to the right site. Not sure when you last looked or bought but they have very limited Eagle Creek items on their website. all I could find were close outs.

I bought mine in the Spring and then more in the Summer. But, you're right, at the moment Sierra Trading Post just has the smaller Eagle Creek pack-it cubes. Sierra is a discount/closeout web site, so they don't always have the same items. They do have Eagle Creek items from time to time, so if you don't need something immediately, you can keep checking (because when they do have something you need, the prices are great! I got my regular sized packing cubes for $4.50 each, which is more than 50% off regular retail price). The Eagle Creek cubes are also really well made.

I haven't seen the ebags packing cubes in person, but here are the sizes of the standard Eagle Creek Pack-It cubes (there's also the Tube and Half Tube cubes that I think Sierra has right now):

Regular Pack-It Cube - 14 x 10 x 3 in
Half Pack-It Cube - 10 x 7 x 3 in
Quarter Pack-It Cube - 7.5 x 4.5 x 2.5 in

I was in our TJ Maxx last week, and they had some sets of similar packing cubes for around $16.99. I think they had 3 in a set. It might be worth stopping in if you'd like to find a less expensive alternative.

I found some good deals on Ebay. I dragged my feet too long to get some for our trip next week, oh well. I really like the dot&dot double sided ones.

Do any of you use packing cubes with Vera Bradley duffel bags? Just wondering how they would fit since that is what I like to use.

I checked TJMaxx and I checked Bed Bath and neither store had them. Only the ziplock bag look.
Ebags gave me 10 or 15% off my first order and then 20% off my next.

Now they just emailed me again with the offer and sent me 3 codes for 20% off in the bags of my last shipment.
So if you are thinking of ordering it says to share it with a friend so you could try one of these codes.
The Ebags.com website: All 3 are codes for 20% off.

I did Christmas shopping. :-)
Those hard to get people that love to take vacation. Works for me.

I have been completely on the fence about these bags. I pack for my whole family and pack our clothes flat by the day. So each day, I lay out 4 complete sets of clothes in a flat pile in the suitcase. Less wrinkles. I have a feeling folding things up into packing cubes will result in more wrinkles, not less.

That said, I have a shoe bag and LOVE it. Can't stomach paying $10-20 for it (got mine free) so when I needed more shoe bags, I used a zippered shopping tote or a drawstring bag (have lots of those cloth totes/drawstring bags free from shows/conferences/etc). I will admit they don't give me the emotional satisfaction of my shoe bag :). I've started putting socks in the shoe bags and that makes so much more sense!

I also use zippered folders ($1 from the dollar store!) for underwear. I have a boy bag and a girl bag. I had used them as Fish Extender bags on our Disney cruise and realised they work beautifully for underwear bags. They do take more space than stuffing underwear into corners, but my DD doesn't want her underwear touching the boy's underwear :)

FREE PACKING CUBES!!! Read below.

Ok, so not the particular brand of packing cubes we are discussing here, but I use my own free version that are just as good if not better (because they are free!). I've been using them for years. Here's what I do:

I keep all of the clear heavy plastic zipper pouches that things like curtains, blankets, etc come in. Then I use them for packing. I have all different sizes, and they last a long time. They are clear, durable, and various sizes so packing is so easy. I pack 5 - 8 of them in a suitcase. And when I get to the hotel I toss 2-3 of them in a drawer, organized by type of clothes (pjs in one sack, undies/socks in another, etc). They are clear, so I can easily find what I'm looking for.

And when they are empty, I fill them up with dirty laundry and put them in my suitcase to take home, each day tossing one of them in the suitcase (because we generate a lot of laundry!). It makes packing up the room a snap at the end of the trip.

They have been a lifesaver.

Anyway, I hope this saves a few of you a couple of $$. Try it! You will be impressed, I promise :)
