If you discovered that your engagement "diamond" was moissanite

I didn't read where the OP said he lied about it being fake. I must have missed that part.

You are right...I was going by the statement "if you found out."

I would think a guy might want to discuss that choice before buying. Or let the fiance know that the ring wasn't going to be a diamond. My brother couldn't afford a diamond when he married SIL and they picked out a lovely pearl/saphire ring together.

While I would not be in the least upset to have a moissanite ring, it WOULD upset me if he specifically tried to pass it off as a diamond. That would speak to character. I can handle thrifty, but not a liar.

I agree.

What the ring was made of wouldn't bother me as long as he was honest. Some of these fake stones are so good that the average person can't tell them from real ones.

But, if he lied and TOLD me it was real...the issue is the lie, not the stone.

I wouldn't care much about the ring itself, but a guy who lies about it...I don't know. I'd give marrying him a second thought.

Ditto....it is about the lie.

I didn't read that into the original post either. If I was lied to, I would very upset, but only because of the lie, not the stone.

I'd probably keep it to myself and not say a word.

I love my husband (and loved him when we were engaged) and if he gave me a ring and indirectly passed it off as a diamond, I would not want to shame or embarrass him. The only reason he would have done it is if he were desperate to give me a ring, couldn't afford a real diamond, was afraid I'd be disappointed if I knew it wasn't a real diamond, and thought I'd never find out.

I saw the paperwork, though, (minus the cost) and knew it was a diamond, so that wasn't an issue for me.
