...switch from CBR to AKL standard view? If so why? Thanks, just throwing the idea up in the air, we have never stayed at a deluxe.

Yes, I would switch. I like CBR, but the walk to refill mugs, depending on where you stay, can be really far.

The themimg at AKL is incredible. Plus, they have something on room service that is OUT OF THIS WORLD.

We did that exact switch on our trip in Feb! I had first made a reservation at CBR for a King room, but after a few days of reading all the great posts about AKL I was rethinking my decision! The standard room rate for AKL was not a whole lot more than my CBR King room and I liked all the services that come with a deluxe hotel not to mention the animals! So I switched our reservation to AKL standard view and it was soooooo worth it!!!!!

We actually got upgraded to a beautiful pool view room on the fourth floor. Our room was right outside a hallway with a glass view of the savannah on one side and the pool on the other. So that was also cool. There are so many animal observation areas around the hotel anyway. Plus I like how in a deluxe they have several eating choices and AKL has some top notch food places. The lobby is just gorgeous and its not nearly as spread out as CBR. Their pool is just great too!! Plus AKL has only one bus stop as opposed to the several that CBR has.

It was totally worth it to us to switch from CBR to AKL. Have fun deciding.

The beef tips with some kind of African sauce (like a BBQ flavoe)- grilled veggies and SWEET POTATO FRITTER yuuuummmmmm

I always have them skip the veggies and add more sweet potato fritters :) The meat is SOOO tender.

OH mercy!!! jamsmom, I know you mean! We stayed at the AKL in October 2002. That place had some great food!

Trish5768: Why switch to AKL? I loved the room. It was dark... as in the lamps have lousy bulbs that are too dim to read by, but hey, who's gonna be reading a novel at WDW?!?!? If you are there with the Significant Other, you aren't gonna be reading anyway;) . Besides, the room furnishings were just gorgeous, the ameneties were superb, the bath was done in marble and granite -very nice-, the bed comfy and the rooms quiet. Waking up and seeing animals just outside your room is fantastic! No offense, but the AKL is just like being in Kenya, only without the abundant insects (think about that expedia tv commercial), political unrest and dysentary. You will love the level of service you will get at the AKL. The pool there is just wonderful! Where else can you soak in a jacuzzi surrounded by beautiful yellow flowers with a live giraff looking over the fence?

If you eat at Jiko's, sit at the food bar and eat the things they serve there. Its amazing cuz you get to watch the chefs cook. The selection of African wines there is wonderful. Not to be missed.

I would do the switch just to experience 2 different resorts. :p

Have fun!

Yes I would! Never stayed at AKL but we've been there to eat at Jikos and we looked around a bit. It's gorgeous. When we first started going to WDW in 1994 we stayed at All Stars, then we went to the moderates, and for the last 4 years we've been staying at Deluxe Resorts (with codes of course, not rack rates). Anyway, why not go for the best if you can swing the $$? But be careful, once you go deluxe, you may not be able to go back to moderates.
