if you could buy one piece of photo equipment, money no object what would it be?

I wish I could get BGE's lump charcoal around me. The only place that did sell it went out of business a few years ago. They make one of THE best lump charcoals.

Hey Kyle -

DH is a big bbq guru. He has a Primo smoker and spends his weekends sitting up all night :drinking1 and burning meat. I believe BGE's lump is made by a company that also sells it using their own label. I'll ask him tonight. He spent way too much time researching charcoal and actually found a site that did controlled testing of all the brands.... etc. An engineer and a bbq can be a tediously dangerous combo!

One of these new vr telephotos - 400/2.8 - 500/4 - 600/4

Logic says the 600 since it is most expensive but I would probably be in situations to use the 400 more so I will go with that.
Ditto!!!

Just to get back on topic -

I really need and want Scott Kelby (or anyone else of similar caliber will do. I'm not too picky) to be my personal photography tudor. I guess that really isn't equipment. But I need to learn how to use what I have before I add much else.

There is a place not to to far away that has Wicked Good weekend lump. $11 for a 10lb bag though. The BGE lump was $12 for a 20lb bag and is just as good.

Take a look at the Lang 60. Reverse flow off set smoker. SWEEEET. I like the reverse flow off sets. I'm actually thinking of taking a welding class titled "I want to build a ________" and bulid myself a smoker. I'd love to get a hold of a 60 gallon propane tank and use that as the cooking chamber.

Jeff those Klose pits are real nice.

I think this is the site which your refering too http://www.nakedwhiz.com/lump.htm for the research on different lumps.

I mostly use royal oak lump because I can get it fairly cheaply at Wally World at least during the summer.

Why does he stay up all night? I can put my bge at temp and go to sleep, and it will be at the same temp when I get up the next morning. There is nothing that comapres to good pulled pork or brisket slow smoked over night.

hmmm now I am sort of getting a craving for some brisket, perhaps I need to stop at the store today.

Yep, the nakedwiz is a great site for charcoal info. I'd love to find a lesser expensive BGE lump under a different name.... sweet.

Geoff, I agree on the ditto. Especially that 400mm f/2.8. OH MY. I don't know if I'll need longer than that. Unless of course one of my boys eventually goes big time in some large outdoor sport. Thats why I'd probably lean towards the 200-400mm f/4 VR

Gregg, brisket does sound yummy. I haven't done one in a while. I got a new place to get some so I'm going to do a few this summah. I'm also thinking of smoking a leg of lamb for Easter next weekend. There is a real nice simple recipe over at thesmokering.com on the front page. Not a lot of spices, but I haven't done leg of lamb yet so I may start with that.

Just because he can, I guess. However, he has been cooking in single digit temps this winter and he likes to keep an eye on his fire. Quite honestly, I don't fully understand the obsession. I just like to results! He did a couple pork butts last weekend. Mmmm.

But focusing on something that I might actually be able to have some day it would be the Zuiko 35-200mm 2.8.

Some day ....

Well, according to DH, who got the info. from the guy at the bbq store, who knows somebody that knows.... Royal Oak is the supplier of both the BGE and Primo brand lump charcoal. Take that for what it's worth. All I know is that over the last few weeks, DH has been buying bags of Royal Oak like crazy from WalMart. Guess it's a seasonal item and you have to stock pile it during the spring and summer. I could have bought a new lens by now with all the charcoal we have!

A seitz D3 camera. 160 Megapixel, 48bit colour, 1/2000sec capture speed.'
All for the low low price of 25'390 € or 65,000 NZD

back off topic, I just put a 15lb brisket in the smoker..... good eats for tomorrow :)

I had trouble with this, as for the time being I think I have everything that I want (is that possible?)

Perhaps some studio style lighting, but it wouldn't get much use.

Oh, and for the OT series -- luvs my Big Green Egg!

Nikon D3 here....! May be getting a D300 to curb the appetite...!

handicap your smilie sprung a leak;) :

just no photos of the brisket, or at least a warning first....unfair to taunt us who are still snow bound:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I cannot believe how many of y'all have these smokers. :confused3 I just cruise on down to the local bbq place for mine. Delicious, much less trouble and mess, and more disposable income to be spent on camera equipment. ;)

A lens cap. No wait, maybe something fancier. How about a digital back for a MF camera? But then again, I really like lens caps.

I'd probably get the Canon 400 f/2.8 IS lens.

1D Mark III or 1Ds MarkIII not sure which would be better, and I don't want to look hard enough to decide.

These as a set. :thumbsup2

I like lens caps too.
