If you could buy 50 more points which DVC resort would you pick?

My husband made a bet with me that if I lost all of my postpartum weight by January 6th he would buy 50 more DVC points. I know this question is a little premature (I ate a little too well during pregnancy so I've got a long way to go to my goal) but it gives me some incentive to get where I'm going.

Would you buy at a different resort or more points at your home resort (our home is SSR with 150pts)? Would you buy resale or direct from Disney? Would you try to buy in the same use year as your other points?

I am determined to reach my goal even if it means living on dreams of DVC! I don't fool around when it comes to more DVC points.

Direct from Disney and call to see what is available sometimes they can suprise you and may have BWV or another desireable resort.

BCV!!! tell him you need 60 points - sun-thurs stays in the value season (adventure).

I would personally stay with SSR and 50 points here through Disney. If you had 200+ in any one resort, I might consider a different one. It is personal though and it's hard to say when you/I have not tried all of them. Good Luck with your weight/goal and congratulations.:D

Can you talk him into 60 points? That will give you 5 weekdays in a studio at BWV (preferred view), BCV or WLV in September. Otherwise, I'd go with 50 points at SSR. If you don't have enough for at least a studio during Adventure season in the other resorts, you are better off sticking with your same resort. And definitely, no matter what, stick with your same use year. Otherwise, it adds a whole level of complexity in managing those points.

Good Luck!

For 50 points, I'd stick with your home resort. It's not worth the tracking hassle for that few of points IMHO. You'll be able to use all the points you want to at the resort you like the best.

For 50 points I'd stay with my home resort, purchase through Disney (closing costs add too much to smaller contracts) and keep the same use year.

I'd choose a new resort so I could get a new 11 month window. Bank and borrow, so you could use this contract every three years for 150 points. I'd choose either EPCOT area or VWL.

Hi,

I would get another resort! Pick another fave resort, I know tough & get 11 months. Good luck with your goal!! Keep us posted.

I really love VWL and love BWV, but I'd probably stay with my home BCV cause it would be easier to keep track of the points. Course, I guess it would also have to be same use year. :)

I would buy into an Epcot resort if you can. Banking and borrowing you'll have plenty of flexibility.

BTW, I am training for the Disney Marathon to lose weight. If you did that too, you could be in Disney within days of this bet and sign your paperwork on site (and sneak in another trip!)

Good luck
Sandy

I would buy at BC to be close to Epcot (own at SSR), but my favorite theme is VWL. Tough decision!

Here's a plan... you coerce him into 60 (or more) at another resort based on the slightly reduced price (try for a resale, maybe?) DIdn't sound like you were talking financing... I'd geta firm quote of 50 pts at SSR price, then see what you can get for same price through Disney or resale at one of the "DVC-I" resorts. It might equal a few extra pts... And I agree about the saving up for 3 yrs plan (which gives you 150 pts every 3rd year).

On the flip side -- I also think there's something to be said for having all one's points in one basket (use year / resort). Sure makes ressies a lot easier and banking / borrowing easier to keep track of. And will you/DH balk at the idea of buying pts that expire before your SSR pts do?

Sorry to be such a waffle on this!

We have BWV and made a small add-on to it already. I have thought about what I would do pts-wise if a few grand ever landed in my lap... If I could have a cool 100 or 150 extra pts, I'd go OKW resale, no doubt about it, to get my paws on a GV now and then. But for a smaller purchase -- say 50 pts -- I have to say I'd just want more of the same (BWV and June use year). I'm into simplicity.

We bought at SSR and just contacted our guide last week about a 50 point add on at Boardwalk.
Figured we could bank and borrow and get the 11 month window there every three years.
He told us it would take about a month to come through.
Same user year is a plus adding on through DVC. And no closing costs.

For you I'd advise that you stick with SSR for a 50 point add on.

I'll follow with why....
We did a small add on after our initial purchase as well and got it at a different resort. Its really hard to use those points though...takes a lot of planning. Which is why if I could get 50 more points I'd get them at VWL to augment my current small # of points there.

I think all the resorts are wonderful....but assuming that you bought at SSR because you want to stay there, just do the add on there. If you really wish you had bought at a different property you could look into adding on there....but know that its going to be a bit harder to manage the points.

I don't regret getting our add on at VWL...but then again I really wish we had more points there and could also round off our number at BWV.

What a great incentive!

I think it depends on how you and your family originally intended on using your DVC points (how often you go, what size unit, how long a stay), how organized you think you'll be at managing the points, and how far in advance you plan/book your vacations.

With good planning, you can really maximize a small add-on. If you bought at a different resort, banked and borrowed, you could in theory have 150 points to work with. That's enough for 5 weeknights in Magic Season in a 1Bdrm at BCV, BWV, or VWL (or even 1 full week in a Studio). So maybe every 3 years you take a short vacation at a different resort using your 11-mo advantage, or an adults only trip w/ just the two of you.

If you buy either direct from Disney, or you buy a resale that has the same exact Use Year, then managing the add-on will be very easy even if you decide to go for a different resort.
For reservations within 7mos, the points can combine seamlessly to book a single room.

Another way you can use a small add-on is to book split-stays. Maybe spend 5 days at SSR, and then change resorts for 3 days at your second home resort.

Anyway, as for your original question, if it were me, I would buy more points at my home resort, BWV, mainly because I love it so much. Although, VWL would be a very close 2nd.

About your other questions, I think:
1) Buy the same Use Year that you currently own, so you maintain only 1 Membership# and can have seamless points management.
2) Buy resale if the price and points status is right. Otherwise, go through Disney.

Good luck!

Wow...wish I could get someone to buy me 50 pts for losing weight...I thin then I might actually get into shape!

Our home resort is SSR and our use year is February. So, I think that for us it makes most sense to get a use year in February, but to have those other points purchased through resale. I think we would get BWV or OKW. BWV would be nice because it is slo close to Epcot and MGM. And OKW would be nice because it is the "cheapest" to stay at...decisions, decisions...I think we'd end up going with BWV.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Well, I just recently had that same question for myself, and I bought 51 pts at OKW. I had a real specific number of points because a grande villa takes 51 points per night, so every three years I can stay in a grande villa for 3 nights!:D If you only have 150 pts, I would add-on at your home resort, unless you have a very specific reason for wanting to be somewhere else. All my other points are at BWV.

If you are only buying 50, it usually does not pay to buy resale, so I went thru Disney. I figured it out both ways, and the cost was the same, plus Disney can finance your purchase. I financed for 10 years, just to see if they would approve it:teeth: They didn't have better rates for shorter contracts, which didn't seem fair. So I will pay it off by next summer, and then buy another add-on, and maybe THEN they will give an incentive! ;)
