We are going to have our names added to the waiting list for BWV points. My contact person said that i can wait and get the use year month i want but it might take a little longer to get. With this being said what month do people think is the best? Is there a reason you picked the month you have or was it because it was the first points offered? Thanks!

I can't give you advise on what the best month is since I am new to this too, I'm not really sure, but I can give you an example-My use year is October, and this is because my favorite week to go is the last week of Nov, since my birthday is 11/30 and it's all decorated for Christmas, and it isn't as crowded since it is after Thanksgiving and before Christmas. So, if you have a favorite time that you like to go, pick a month that is about a month ahead of that. Use year is important so you know when you have points available, and for banking or borrowing. But it won't stop you from going other times of the year-for exampple, I mentioned my favorite time to go, but I wanted to go twice so I'm also going in April.
I hope this helps!

We usually go May & December, so I picked April (there is no May).

We like October, January, February and April, so I would think October would be best for us. But we got February and that's fine as we have worked around it just fine.

We were given an October use year, before I realized I could have had a choice! But, after much research and thought, if given a choice it would have been ....... October!! :goodvibes

We would most likely go during Nov., Feb., and April.

As was stated in a previous message pick the "use year" the month that you normally travel or pick one 3 to 5 months prior.

As an example, let's say you always or usually vacation in March then I would buy a March, February, December or October use year. The reason for this is---- let's say you make a reservation to vacation in March and something comes up in your life and you need to cancel that vacation --say the end of January --then because of those use years you could cancel and still have plenty of time to bank 100% of your points. However, with that same scenario and now an April use year you would have to use those points by the end of March meaning most likely you would lose them.

Also remember there is no January, May, July or November use year.

Did Disney put you on the waitlist for points at the BWV and this would be your first purchase?

Im am going to be put on a waitlist but it was explained to me that i could do it one of two ways. The first was to just take the first 200-220 points that became available at the Boardwalk which could happen very quickly. The second way was to give him the month of use year i wanted which would take a bit longer. I figured now that i know you get the points from the previous year without paying maintance fees on it i would kinda be stupid to take feb or march because i would jsut be getting the points for this year right?

I was assigned an Aug UY and at the time I didn't know the importance of it as far as cancelling a ressie goes. However, since I usually go in Dec it worked out fine! :cool1:

I have a June use year - very happy with it. I have never lost any points.

it is great for summer, fall, and winter - Spring - well if I go in the spring I better not cancel....

I was given June and it has worked out really well so far. We travel between June and late Nov as a rule, so it works for us.

Very good advise! Our Use Years are Aug and Sept and we travel usually in Aug and Dec.

TLH1977: Are you adding on or buying your very first contract? I have 2 contracts at different resorts with different use years. If you adding on and are not detail oriented, I would recommed having the same UY.

The best use year really depends on when you plan to travel.

We have a Feb UY...which works fine for our Spring (April) or Summer (May and June) trips. This is typical of when we will always visit DVC...so it seemed fine at the time (April would have been better)

However, our school district changed the calendar and now we have some very precious, low points time off in January. With a Feb UY, that doesn't leave us any room to bank or use points if a Jan trip falls through at the last minute. When we add on (someday!)...we'll most likely buy a resale with an October or December UY.

Well, I would probably prefer Oct, but we have Aug & Sept..so that's not too shabby!! With resales, you've got to grab a "good contract"...uy kind of takes a back seat (although I do stay away from the "spring" uy's).

We have August. We travel Feb, April and July or August. I didn't really care what UY we got so long as we joined! I had a choice of August or later in the year, but since I hope to take a vacation this August, I can use our own points instead of renting! :cool1:

I'm not really worried about having to cancel a vacation or not being able to use the points. I am trying to figure out how to best use the points we have without needed more! It would be a very cold day you-know-where before I would cancel my vacation to sunny Florida from cold, snowy New York! And should I ever be struck by lightening, I'm sure my sister would jump at the chance to take my reservation!

We have use years in Feb, March, and August for trips in April, July, and December, so it works out well for us. It did take awhile, however, to work out this schedule. :cloud9:

We COULD pick whatever use year we wanted when we bought BCV, so we bought October. We always go in Early December.

Although they were "selling" some other UY at the time, I knew I wanted October so I asked for it. No problem according to our guide. I suspect many people just take what they're offered. I suppose it's not that big a deal but some use years could be awkward depending on your plans.
