If you buy through resale, do you get a guide?

Yes you get a guide if you buy through resale. If you have ever spoken with a guide even if you don't buy, then that guide is assigned to you. If you subsequently buy resale you will get whoever was assigned to you. If you never spoke with anybody, but bought resale you will be assigned a guide - possibly the guide of the previous owner. Who your guide is really isn't important. It's really a fancy name for your assigned salesperson in case you want to buy more points through Disney.

You can absolutely request a new Guide (or find out who is your Guide) - just call MS. However, the only thing a Guide really does for you is facilitate the purchase of a new contract. Some Guides, however, are certainly better than others and you should absolutely want to be comfortable with the one assigned to you.

Having a great guide is important. We bought through resale and decided to add on at BLT a week later. When I called MS, I just told them I was a new member and needed to talk to someone about adding on.

They transferred me to my guide--not sure if I was assigned to him already or if it was just random, but it worked out great since he is wonderful!!!

There is a thread that offer guides and referrals so if you go there, you will find the information you want--you won't need the referral, but I am sure any of the members who have great guides would be willing to share the name of their guide.

Good luck!

I would disagree. Your guide is your personal timeshare salesman. Unless you need to add-on through Disney, you don't ever need to talk to your guide. And if you do want to add-on, just about any guide can fill out the paperwork for you.

If so, how?

Can you request a specific guide, if another DVC member knows of a good one?

Thanks

Yes. I got the guide that I was assigned to when I toured DVC many years ago. They actually keep track of that.

So even though I am a member via resale the guide is the same. And of course she sends me emails frequently to entice me :woohoo: to "Add On".

I do agree that all guides can do the paperwork, and that they are salesman. But having a guide who is attentive, who knows what is going on, and who is willing to take what you want and get it approved, when others say it can't be done, is important when you are making a large financial commitment such as DVC.

Maybe my situation was unique, but I am very happy I have one who is willing to go the extra mile to get me exactly what I want when I am adding on points.

I agree. I told called my guide last week. I told her we booked and she said oh come and see me when you are down here I will give you some Fast Passes!! That is my kind of Guide!!!! :thumbsup2
