If you bought a Dell, HP, Compaq, or Apple laptop - look here

After seeing this today and talking to Best Buy I am super PO'd. My Compaq Presario died March 1st and Geek Squad told me there was nothing they could do. I purchased a new laptop et al for a grand total of $850. I see this today and my computer would have been fixed or replaced!!! HOWEVER the cut off for filing was March 14th. I called the store and was amazingly calm for just basically crapping out $850 and was told sorry, we forgot. Really??? Sending them an email now. UGH
 
I never got an email but I got the instructions for returning the laptop in yesterday's mail. WoooHooo - after 2 yrs, who would've thunk I could get a replacement? :thumbsup2
 
I swear I posted yesterday, but I'll try again. :)

Has anyone gotten their replacement laptop yet? If so, how long did it take from the time NVIDIA received your old laptop? How does the new laptop compare speed-wise, etc. to your old one?

I haven't got mine yet, and I send mine back on March 10th :confused: In fact, I'm a bit worried. But, it did take a full month from the time I mailed in the claim until I got the return instructions, so maybe it is going to take that long at least to get the new computer.
 
Bumping to see if anyone has yet received their replacement laptop and if so, what computer is it? I only sent mine back two weeks ago but I know some were returned in March so surely by now a few have their replacements.

I'm only two weeks out from returning so I know I still have to wait but I'm anxious to hear what computer is being sent and opinions about them so far.
 
The NVidia class action suit website says that replacements are taking 6-10 weeks. :( I've googled and it doesn't appear anyone has received a replacement yet. All I see are lots of people waiting.

The replacement laptop stinks, especially if it is replacing a higher end laptop. And i know that there was another hearing the end of March regarding the replacement laptop. But, i don't think there has been a verdict about that yet. It could be why NVidia is waiting to send replacements out.

You might want to bookmark this website: http://www.nvidiasettlement.com/index.html It is the link to the NVidia settlement page. According to the main page, they just started shipping the replacements out on May 12. And they were shipping out replacements in the order that the defect laptops were received.

It took 12 weeks, nearly to the day. I was getting worried, and was just telling dd today that maybe I'd never be seeing it. But the FedEx guy came about 30 minutes ago!

Setup is easy. It is a Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX notebook. Don't know if that is good or bad :rotfl: but I have a 7th grader due home soon who will surely critique it for me :rotfl2: It's Windows 7-gosh I am so tired of learning new windows.

So, keep hope! It was longer than expected but it is here!
 
This stinks! I knew nothing about this. Nothing received in the mail about the class action suit.

I have one of the effected laptops and now it's to late to do anything about it. :sad2:

We got ours Saturday! Husband is excited to finally have something again, it'll be our travel computer mostly. I'm excited to have another computer to print coupons from :)
 
Nothing received in the mail about the class action suit.
This really points out the importance of registering your purchase with the manufacturer, and verifying the registration through a follow-up, as well as updating the registration if your contact information changes. In class-action lawsuits, such registrations are discoverable and used by the courts to ensure all potential participants are notified.
 
DD had one of the affected laptops(HP Pavillion) that crashed and burned a month after we bought it from Best Buy in Buffalo. HP sent a replacement harddrive and it worked for another 3 weeks. Then it would turn on but no screen or sound. We took it back to Best Buy and they sent it out, 8 weeks later it came back with a new motherboard and CPU( they had to wait for parts at the repair depot in Chicago). Then DD threw a pen at her DBF and put it through the laptop screen a week later, luckily we had purchaed a PSP( personal service protection plan) when we bought it. We again took it back to Best Buy and they replaced the screen no charge( a 3 week wait). The laptop has been fine since.
 
Our lap top just came today.

And yes it does stink.

Our old one didn't have a built in camera but this one does so that is the only plus.

My dh said it had a slower (?) processor or a lower capacity one (not sure his exact words).

And my biggest complaint is that there is no sd card slot reader. Seriously? I used that thing all the time & planned on taking it on our trip in a few weeks to put pictures on minus a cord to attach to my camera.

He is going to look at it & call & complain if he thinks it is far less worthy in his eyes. Not that it is going to do much but still. Heck if they can give us a $200 voucher towards another HP, I'd take that. I'd let my kids use this one, OK fight over it & we can get another one, better one.
