If you bought a contract less than 35 points, why?

When we first started vacationing at WDW without the kids we'd always go over a weekend. Sometimes we could do it without taking any time off from work. So for about two years we'd go to WDW 3 to 4 times a year over long weekend. This was when SW flew each way for $39/pp. LOL So I could see a 30 point contract. When we did join DVC the minimum was 160. We added on 3 times, twice at different venues, for 100, 55, 30. The last two are at the same resort. We initially did 55 to go every other year and added the 30 years later to go every year. At some point I see us selling the 160 contract.

I did this in late 2017 when *any* points purchased directly = blue card (& with my 8-person family, the AP discount made it a no-contest decision!).

So, we purchased ~200 points BLT resale on the cheap & immediately added on 32 direct Poly points (I wanted enough for 2 nights). Bam. Blue card 🤩😉

(& I wasn’t alone in doing this. It was a known strategy at the time.)
Can you still add on direct for less than 150 points, if you buy resale first? Thanks!

I bought 30 points at BWV in 2020. I wanted them specifically to book RunDisney weekends. I knew it was tough to get standard studios or BW view. I really love the crescent lake area for marathon weekend. 30 points was just enough for a studio almost every year if i banked and borrowed correctly. I also love the walk to DHS so that was a plus.

I thought I would run it out to 2042. Fast forward 2 years, a messed up disc in my back has stopped my running so no more RunDisney for me. Without those trips, I no longer need an Epcot resort since I prefer monorail resorts. I sold the 30pts and bought 60 at VGF.

I did the exact same thing. Was a great work around :-)

We started dividing our direct purchases into 3 equal contracts for easy passing gifting to our kids when they are grown. In 2021, that meant adding on 75 AKL direct in 3 25-pt contracts. Plus, if we ever need to liquidate, we can capture a higher resale price , sell faster, and also not liquidate ALL the points if we don't need to. We will keep the 2042 contracts we own for ourselves. This will be our strategy going forward when we add on at DLT and POLY2 as well.

I could see someone adding on a small amount like that because the points required to stay during their preferred time has gone up so they need just a few more points. Buying 10% more than you think you need is great advice, but not everyone thinks about that as a new buyer, or has the funds to do so at the time.
This was us exactly, complicated by the fact that we used our initial double points on a 1br and then were spoiled rotten. DUMB!

Rather than get stuck buying a few OTU points or dealing with the bank-borrow cycle to get a 1br every other year, we decided it was simpler to add 25 points.

That covered us for a few years, and then a points reallocation put us back in the same boat for our usual week in even a studio.

The cause is that we only want to stay in VGF1 for longer than a single night. We love the place that much. If we were more flexible, we'd not have had such difficulty.

We bought 25 resale back when you were still a blue card member (before there was such a thing). We wanted to just try it out and we still had little kids and could fit comfortably in a studio. We have since added on at 2 other resorts and now I want to sell those 25 (but would then lose the blue card so probably won't) because our kids are adult sized and we need to stay in 2 bedrooms to they can each have their own regular size bed.

A couple reasons:
1. Put it in my wife's name so she got full membership benefits (before restrictions)
2. Bought BWV for home resort advantage during food & wine with enough points for two or three days in standard studio
I'm still waiting to pass ROFR, but this is exactly what I did. I bought a partially stripped 25pt BWV contract. With a little banking and borrowing mojo (and a skipped year in the middle), it should be enough for a 3 night visit in a standard view studio during several different periods. My total cost was under $3,500 (not including dues).

25 points as an add on. My points were close to what I usually needed but I wanted a small buffer. Also I’m a resale member and the 25 points are a direct add on. So I have an opportunity to sample newer resorts like riviera and Disneyland hotel DVC for a night from time to time.
