If you are watching the coronation, are you team Camellia

Why did she feel the need to make any comment at all about the "lack of diversity" in the Royal Family of a western European nation who are celebrating the coronation.
In English English the word "terribly" is an amplifier meaning "very" so the balcony scene wasn't just white it was being described as very white.

Adjoa Andoh is a British citizen (born Clifton, Bristol, England.... thank you Wikipedia) who chose to make a comment abut HER country while being interviewd about her thoughts on the ceremonies. I cannot speak to why she feels the way she does, but she is entitled to her opinion, be it popular or not.

I'm mid air on my way to Vancouver for my DCL cruise. I am watching The Lost King. About a decade ago I bought a book about the search of King Richard III's grave by Phillipa Langley. The movie The Lost King is based on it.

Never knew a movie was made about it. Those interested in royal history, it's a decent watch, but for sure an interesting story.

Just reading Spare finally and he does not seem bitter about his dad’s marriage. Writes how happy his Pa and Camilla are and how they had a long term connection.
Funny how people not actually involved are more bitter than the actual folk!

We all get it. You are 100% team Diana and she can do no wrong.

No matter how flat you make a pancake there are two sides. I don't think she had an easy life by any means, but I find it interesting how devoted you are to her.
Sorry my posts offend you! It’s a discussion. ;)

There's a good documentary about it called "The King in the Car Park," if you want more about it.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2677712/

It currently streams on Roku Channel and Amazon Prime. And keeping with the current royal family, it shows the reburial service at the end, which Sophie attended.

Not offended at all. And I never said that. I said I find it interesting how defensive you are of her and how devoted you seem to her memory. I can’t think of a single celebrity I care about that much. It’s not anything negative toward you. I legitimately find it interesting. The same way I find it interesting when people would get hysterical when they would meet say Michael Jackson or Madonna. No ill intent or bad thoughts about you at all. I really apologize if it came across that way because I respect you very much as a person.

And ford family can have his or hers without being called defensive.

My book club is reading The Daughter of Time, about RIII, for June. Similar topic.

Lol, hysterical isn’t a way I would classify myself when it comes to Diana. I find it interesting you chose me to single out (because my view differed a bit from yours?) when there are plenty here who seem to be “fanboys” and “fangirls” of various people and things. We’re all Disney fanpeople, aren’t we? I fail to see how this differs. All of us have things we like and enjoy; I’m sure you do, too. I am allowed to have and to share my thoughts on Diana.

This thread has been so fascinating. I even looked at what it would take to immigrate to the UK lol. It seems like such a nice (safe) place to live. Oh well, one can dream....and watch coronations....and live vicariously through the royals!

Lol. I never said you were hysterical but at this point I don’t think defensive is off the mark. I used a different example. You are more than welcome to share your thoughts. So am I. I agree to disagree. This is silly as I really don’t care that much about any of these people.

I made a general statement, not directed at anyone in particular in response to the comment made by the actor. The Ford family chose to reply to my general statement and self identify themselves as fragile. I asked why that comment made them defensive and they explained. Never ONCE did I say they were not entitled to their opinion, but thanks for pointing that out.
I do find it funny... on a thread, almost thirteen pages long, devoted to asking how if we are on the team or not of the former mistress (now Queen of England), where he (Charles) has been called an adulterer and Camilla his side chick.... but THIS comment about the balcony is the disparaging line in the sand. LOL

The art of discussion seems lost on some. 👂 👂 👀 👄.

Earlier there were some highly offensive and political posts about the Queen and the Royal family, but I just pressed the ignore button, or reported, or scrolled on.

Camilla is Queen of the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and 14 Commonwealth realms. Then, of course there are the British dependencies and overseas territories.

lol oops my bad.... Queen of the UK. I saw a meme (maybe on here?) about the difference between England, what is considered Britain, the UK, and then the Commonwealth. it is confusing to outsiders for sure.

When I looked up the comment from Andoh about the lack of balcony diversity after Jangles brought it up, one of the things that popped up was a British You Tuber who was discussing how that comment got thousands of complaints from people whom he described as fragile and defensive, and was one of the most reported comments to date. They brought up the term fragility and it seem to fit the situation, Fragile in this case meaning easily upset which is why I used it, not as an insult, but describing the reactions of people becoming upset over something that is not directly because of their own actions or within their control.

It is interesting how things or words can be viewed so differently by some with one set of lenses and set of experiences vs. another. The utter loyalty to a King /Queen is not a concept that many Americans grasp too well or easily. We have an overly developed sense of independence, and while we have some 'loyalty' to our elected leaders... it is a transient relationship, and soon replaced with another talking head.

Found some pretty cool color footage on YouTube of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation:

The listing says it's colorized but someone else says it's actually color footage filmed in Technicolor, and i think that's true because the colors look natural and not added later, and also the part where she's crowned is from a different angle than the black and white TV footage, and you can see the Archbishop place the crown on her head. In the TV footage they cut away at that point and they didn't show it.

it's interesting to compare and contrast with Charles III's coronation.

I wouldn’t want her life for anything. But a lot of people who say how awful life was with Charles sing the praises of her life post Charles. That was my only point.

She seemed quite pleased to live a life in the spotlight. I think she loved her sons and was well intentioned. But I take issue with sanctifying her while vilifying Charles. You (general) can’t cast her as the perennial victim and at the same time say she was so strong and independent. I think there were many casualties of that arranged marriage and it’s easy to pick one villain and one perfect “princess”. Life is rarely that black and white.
I do see Charles as a bit of a villain in this storyline; he was the one who thought he was entitled to continue to see his mistress after marriage ... but he was also raised to believe he was different from other people (and, well, he was). To some extent he was a victim of his birth.

While she was a lovely person, I don't see her as a perfect princess. I firmly believe she was too young to realize what she was getting into, and I think more than being "quite pleased" to be in the spotlight, I think she figured out that would always be her lot ... so she tried to make the best of the choices she'd made. I don't think she was entirely a victim; she definitely "used Charles" ... she wanted to marry into the royal family. You know the saying: Be careful of what you wish for.

No, they're more complicated than victim and villain, and they both grew /changed over the years.

As someone who clearly does not follow royalty, the only thing that I wondered about was why Camilla gets to be Queen Camilla when Phillip who was married to Queen Elizabeth forever was never King Phillip. Seems odd to me. I don't really care for any of them. I was hopeful that Charles could be skipped and the title go to William instead.

Sure. I can completely understand this point of view.
