If you are/have been pregnant in Disney: 7DMT and Safari

I wonder if they recommend against it for safari because of the possibility that the animals can be unpredictable and I don't think there were seat belts if I remember correctly. My parents rode once where two of the rinos came charging right along the truck. My mom pulled my niece away from her window seat because she was afraid they were going to hit the truck. They didn't and were actually just playing with each other but it could have been a problem. If the driver had to stop fast it might cause a pregnant woman to be thrown against the seat in front. But the same would be true of children.
You are correct - there are no seatbelts.

I rode both at 28 weeks pregnant and was even in the last row on the Safari. No issues at all. They are not exactly thrill rides.

I can only speak from personal experience-I rode the safari when 4 months pregnant 3 years ago and just recently (last month) 4 times when 6 months pregnant (night and day) ... I've had a normal pregnancy and as most people say it's a bumpy car ride... I asked for the front row every time as it's less jerkier and I was accommodated. All cast members didn't seem bothered and one driver commented on my bump (as I was behind him-I am carrying very big this time!)

As for 7DMT I avoided simply for the lap bar... Although when I was on it and not pregnant the bar didn't touch me as I tend to ride coaster types with my legs extended and locked-don't want anything touching my tummy as it would hurt!- that simply wouldn't have been an option on there with the size of me:) toy story mania and ariel under the sea were bad enough pressing on my bump!

Have a fun trip-listen to your body as I believe you know best and if you are concerned-don't ride!!

I went at 16 weeks pregnant and avoided safari, not because I truly thought it was dangerous, but because I have a lot of anxiety surrounding pregnancy (years of infertility, multiple losses), and I knew that I would be worried if I rode it. I've been on it a few times before, and while it is probably my favorite ride in WDW, riding it that trip was not worth the effect I knew it would have on my mental health. So, for safari, I would say it depends on how you are going to feel afterward. Are you going to wonder "what if"?

I think it's best for any pregnant woman to avoid all roller coasters, including "tame" ones like 7DMT. Just not worth the risk, IMO.

My theory is (and obviously my OB/GYN agrees), if Disney considers it safe for a newborn to ride, it's probably okay for a pregnant woman. My son rode the safari at 9 weeks. If it was not too bumpy for him as an "outside" baby, it's probably not too bumpy for an "inside" baby. There are not roads quite that bumpy where I live, but they don't ban people who live on gravel roads from getting pregnant.

I did ride the Safari, and also Soarin'. Both were cleared by my OB. 7DMT is a pretty solid no, I would say.

Talk to your OB. My personal decision would be no. My last pregnancy was both too hard won and too hard to take even the slightest risk with. Certainly for a thing I'd done repeatedly, I'd pass.

I've been twice while pregnant and i skipped those. I was sure I'd be fine but in the small chance something happened id never forgive myself

I would never ride any coaster when pregnant for sure, but I did the safari with no issues at about 15-16 weeks pregnant. I discussed our trip with my OB before we left. She said definitely no teacups for me, haha. It wouldn't have been something I would have even thought about on my own, but looking back, yeah...probably would have made me sick! Another one that surprised me with how jerky it was when I was pregnant was Toy Story Midway Mania. You are really whipped around, and I wouldn't ride it again while expecting. It was super uncomfortable for me. But I basically agree with the thought that if you could take a baby safely on the ride, you could ride it pregnant.

Have a discussion with your Ob-Gyn. It is strictly between you and your doctor. Do not let the pregnancy police make your decision for you. My doctor told me that I was in good health and that I could ride anything that I wanted. So at four months pregnant, I rode most everything that I wanted. One mistake was riding TOT on its inaugural year. I do not recommend riding that when pregnant..........or ever!!!!!!

When I had Placenta Previa, my doctor recommended against Safari, but when I had no complications it was okay to go on. I would probably prefer a FP so that I could pee just before going on!!

I agree with the PP who said TSM was not ideal - it's very jerky and could easily lead to puking or bodily discomfort!

I rode the safari as my young kids did not ride much at AK that year (I think the only other ride we rode that year was Triceratops Spin and then It's Tough to be a Bug, which isn't really a ride). Since we were so limited in what we could do at that point and it seemed mostly harmless, I went a head and rode it (after discussing it with my mom and DH, both of whom thought it'd be fine). This was before Mine Train.

ETA: Your history will probably play a part in your decision as well. I've always had uneventful pregnancies and usually have to have to kick them out after 42 weeks, but I know others aren't so lucky.

Just wanted to mention - for some reason, a lot of people think that Soarin' has a warning for pregnancy.
It doesn't. The only warnings are for motion sickness and fear of heights.

Is risking a pregnancy really worth it? Believe me, a "normal" pregnancy can change in a second.

I agree. It may be uncommon that it happens, but it can. My SIL was having a great pregnancy. At 6 months she flew, with dr approval, and when she landed in NJ it turned into a care-flight to PA to the Ronald McDonald House, where my nephew was born at less than 3 lbs. Nobody expected that, mostly her dr, who had been in practice for 20-something years.

I don't want to scare you or be an alarmist, but I felt great and had almost no symptoms throughout most of my pregnancy. Then at 28 weeks was suddenly diagnosed with oligohydramnios (very low fluid) and spent over a month in and out of the hospital and having NST and ultrasounds at a high risk OB 2-3 times a week until they decided to deliver via emergency c-section at 36 weeks. My "normal" pregnancy turned to nearly losing my son and then having a late pre-term baby very fast and it was terrifying. Just because you feel "normal" and think it's "normal" doesn't mean it will remain that way. It's your decision but I personally would not risk my child for a ride.

Thank you to all the current and past pregnant ladies who responded! I appreciate hearing what you went on/didn't go on! It's a little obvious to talk to the dr, but given that my dr has never been to Disney, I am definitely interested in also hearing some first hand accounts! I didn't even give Soarin a second thought as it's really doesn't move much and you're just up high! One of my friends got naseous from the smells tho! I didn't even think of that, but given that I haven't gotten sick at all I'll give it a go!! Everything will really depend on day of, as I'm sure you all know every day is different! I've actually had a ton of friends ride Splash pre- lap bar! I don't think I'll be that adventurous as a few times it's stopped VERY short!!!! I read a major part of the warning on that ride (pre lap bar) was the evacuation route in an emergency. I think someone else mentioned that as to why some of the warnings are in place! I love the one who mentioned TOT - haha! I stay clear if that even when not pregnant so that's a definite no!!! Those that mentioned the pee thing made me laugh!! We just did a 9 hour flight and I was stuck by the window which was NOT fun whenever I had to pee :crazy2:. Now I just have to hope zika remains at bay!! Thanks all!

I just got back a couple weeks ago, I was about 25 weeks pregnant and I went on the safari. The safari was the only ride that said "not recommended if you are expecting", but I have ridden in before and found that if you sit in the front it is less bumpy and we had no issues.

7DMT on the other hand, I don't think I would have been able to even fit in the seat with the bar. lol

For Splash it's actually the major drop, including the angle of it and the speed, plus the sudden stop at the end.
It's a 50 foot free fall at a 45 degree angle, gets up to 40 miles per hour and stops suddenly at the end.
The biggest concern I have read is placental abruption, where the placenta can partially peel off the wall of the uterus. If you do a google search for that, you will find quite a bit.
