Would you do it? Is it a long way to FW to enjoy all of the amentities?

I'd still pick the cabins- but you're asking someone that has stayed there 14 trips. Even left the AKL last year to go stay in the cabins.
It's only a boat ride away- so it's not bad getting to and from the ft from WL.

Stayed in the cabins twice many years ago. Pesonally love the campground..and look forward to bringing our travel trailer one day. That being said..I'm not fond of the location of the cabins as I feel they are somewhat removed from the many amenities that the campground offers. Maybe especially because at that time we had young children..and it seemed a chore to take strollers on the bus just to get to the pool in August. The pool for the cabins was small and did not have a life guard either. The main camping loops are much nicer in my opinion. That being said..if the villas were cheaper than the cabins..I'd stay in the Villas. As again, I don't feel the cabins are all that accessible to the FW amenities to begin with. I think there is more of a need for a car staying in the cabins, than would be at the villas. We often bike through FW when we stay at the WL..and do look forward to the time when we can bring our TT. I think when you camp...whether it be with your RV or tent camping you also have the option of bringing your bikes..which makes getting around the campground fun and easier. Many of those that use the cabins are flying to Disney(like we did) and don't have the option of bringing their bikes. We did use a golf cart after a few days, and did found that to be a good option for us. So as much as I enjoy FW..if given the choice between the Villas and cabins..I'd have to go with the Villas. If given the choice between my TT and the villas..I'd go with the TT and a preferred cable camping loop!:thumbsup2 I guess it all depends on what your looking for in a vacation.

It's a short bike ride away. Maybe 10 minutes. There is a bike/walking trail that joins the two resorts. It's very pleasant and you can rent the bikes at the WL marina.

i think i would still do the cabins...for me its not just about the cabins themselves but all of fort wilderness, so much to do and its so homey. I don't think WL villas would have that same feel.

We saw a travel show channel on Wildnerness lodge, and it showed the villas as well. They look great (and have a washer/dryer right in the unit). However. . . . we LOVE the cabins. Part of what we like best is having a stand-alone unit. In other words, you are not in a hotel with people going up and down the hall. We just felt more like home, and you don't have to wait for an elevator etc.

Also, we have always done a golf cart at the Fort. They are indeed expensive, but we always budget for it. The whole family loves zipping around in them and we play golf cart scavenger hunt (who can find the highest numbered cart, who can find the lowest etc). We zoom around the resort searching and it adds to the fun.

Lastly, it is easy to get to the WL if you want to enjoy their amenities. You can walk, but we enjoy the short boat ride.

oh my!!! That didn't clear things up for me.:goodvibes This is hard!!

Do you plan to rent a golf cart from the cabin locations..or do you have very young children requiring strollers...? Or will you be driving to FW..thus able to bring some bikes along? Will you have access to a car?

We usually rent a golf cart, no stoller, 4 year old that need naps, possibly we will drive down, if not rental car.

After I have been to the cabins twice, I am afraid of being let down somewhere else.

Oh..I missunderstood..I didn't realize that you've already stayed in the cabins. Then I guess you are familiar with the campground and it's amenities..and from what you say enjoyed your stay there. Your question is in regards to the cost of the villas being cheaper..but you prefer the campground..then... I would think it would depend also on what type of Villa accomodation you will have. If it's a stuidio..it's not going to compare to the seperate bedroom and living area that the cabins offer. Much more the size of a hotel room. If you are looking for a seperate sleeping area for your four year old, you may be better off with the cabins..especially since you've enjoyed them before. Certainly you could visit the WL..just by biking over that way or taking the water launch. Of course the WL offers many amenities that I'm sure you would enjoy also. I guess it really depends on what type of accomodation your family requires. Also the cost of the golf cart is additional to the rate of the cabins. I suppose you'd save that by staying in the villas also. Certainly staying at the WL villas is no hardship! It really just is just a matter of what type of accomodation you want. You will not be dissapointed in either resort.

Yes I probably would choose Villas but only if I can get 2 br for same as cabin. We have a lot of children and require alot of beds. We usually do OKW or BWV but the points are actually cheaper to do the Cabins. I have also paid to stay at cabins for the first night or two of our trip then transfered to BWV. There are many things I like about Fort Wilderness. The atmosphere is just different.

We have taken our bikes and have rented bikes when I have stayed at VWL and BWV. We rode bikes over to FW from VWL using the bike/walking trail, just to ride around and enjoy and eat at Trails End. When we stayed at BWV and had our bikes we drove over to WL and rode bikes over to FW. So we do enjoy Fort Wilderness. This will be the first time we stay there for a great length of time so I will let you know further when we return.

Somebody mentioned distance of cabins from pool. When I have stayed there before we must have had a perfect location or something b/c pool was almost right across the street from our cabin.???

P>S> I will also enclude pics when I return.

There is a pool in one of the cabin loops..primarily used by the cabin guests because of it's proximity to them. When we stayed in the cabins, our loop wasn't the one with the pool..and I found it to be sort of plain and not worth the trip. It didn't offer a snack bar/arcade or any supervision by a lifeguard. At the time we had kids that were both pretty young requiring strollers and a teenager...who of course wanted to go to the pool that also offered the arcade, the one at the Meadow area. So we would "shlep" over that way. Again..once we had the golf cart, I found that infinetly easier. As it was the middle of August and the heat and humidity pretty high. I wouldn't go in the summer without renting a cart...especially with young children. That's just me. I'd love the option of bringing bikes..but we flew to Fla..so that wasn't going to happen.
