We saw a travel show channel on Wildnerness lodge, and it showed the villas as well. They look great (and have a washer/dryer right in the unit). However. . . . we LOVE the cabins. Part of what we like best is having a stand-alone unit. In other words, you are not in a hotel with people going up and down the hall. We just felt more like home, and you don't have to wait for an elevator etc.
Also, we have always done a golf cart at the Fort. They are indeed expensive, but we always budget for it. The whole family loves zipping around in them and we play golf cart scavenger hunt (who can find the highest numbered cart, who can find the lowest etc). We zoom around the resort searching and it adds to the fun.
Lastly, it is easy to get to the WL if you want to enjoy their amenities. You can walk, but we enjoy the short boat ride.
