Our contract is currently in ROFR, if we pass and all is transferred into our names by our trip (8/28) could we use some points to upgrade our resort? We are currently booked at ASMovies but would like to upgrade to a DVC resort. How many pts would it be (approximately) to upgrade to OKW for example. Would it be the full amount of points or do they have a ratio they would use? TIA:yay:

No, you cannot take your exisitng reservation and convert it to a DVC reservation by adding points. You will either have to keep that AS reservation or cancel it and try to get a different DVC reservation using points, which may be difficult to do so close to the time of going.

I understand, however I have heard of people buying in while on vacation and they have upgraded them.

As far as I am aware that has never happened. In the early part of the 90s Disney had an incentive where a new purchaser from it who purchased while at Disney World could have the rental price he paid for his room applied as a down payment for the DVC purchase, but that did not involve any upgrading while you were there. Moreover, in your situation it would not matter -- you are not purchasing from Disney.

Ain't happening in your case.

You understand that you are not buying from Disney, right? You are purchasing a DVC contract from an individual through an independent real estate broker...not from Disney.

Once you close, there is absolutely no difference between you and any other DVC owner -- and you'll save a bunch of money buying resale -- but DISNEY has no reason to upgrade you for buying from someone else.

Also, and this is a tangent, but it's worth knowing that as a DVC member, free upgrades basically don't exist. If you book a standard view room, they're not going to put you in a savannah view for the same points, even if they have it available. Not unless Something Very Bad has happened to your reservation.

I understand that this is not the case because the OP is buying resale, BUT when we orginally purchased in 2007 we had a cash reservation we were staying on at BWV. We purchased the first day of our trip, and they credited the amount we paid for the room to our contract...and we were able to use points for that stay. So this is the type of situation I'm assuming he was referring to. Good luck with your purchase!!!:cool1:

He's buying resale so your point is moot. :) (point also made above in another follow-up post before your own)

Actually, Mr. Flyer, I understand he is buying resale- hence the "I understand this is not the case because the OP is buying resale" comment. My comment was in reference to the previous poster

I was simply making a comment about the situation I encountered- similiar to what the OP was referencing. However, you sir, Mr. Flyer, seem like you could use a little pixie dust. :wizard:

I don't know -- maybe I missed something -- but it seems to me that your experience was the exact opposite of what OP was discussing. Which would make WilsonFlyer's comments perfectly accurate.

We all need pixie dust.
