Please advise if we should still consider joining DVC if we may move to Orlando, FL in the next 6 months? Would this not make sense then? My husband is looking at transfers to either Orlando or Jacksonville, and we don't know where we may end up at this time. Currently we live in LA and want to join this weekend, before the Feb 1st cutoff, to take advantage of the great deal they have for SSR, but don't want to commit if this is would be a bad move should we end up in O-town instead of Jacksonville.....

What do ya'll think????????

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Personally, I probably wouldn't do it even if I ended up in Jacksonville. With the Florida resident and annual pass discounts, I think you will find that you will do just fine without the timeshare commitment, especially since DVC is not the best timeshare for trading out in terms of the value received. If you wanted to do DVC but give yourself a different type of vacation, you might consider buying into the DVC at Hilton Head since that would be an easy drive from Jacksonville or Orlando, would still give you the possibility of going to WDW on points at least sometimes, and would have a lower upfront cost and (currently) lower maintenance costs.

I think it depends on how you'd use it. For some, buying but less points might be a great choice. There are still other perks not tied to stays. But it is a different decision and one that should be weighed differently than someone traveling to Orlando form a distance. I'd say that using DVC routinely for weekends only is an extremely poor choice.

When we bought DVC our van driver had bought DVC several years ago and then moved to Orlando. They kept it.

She said that they use it for out of town guests, and they also enjoy getting away for a mini-vacation for a couple of days by staying in DVC. On occasion they will use the points for Vero as well.

We live in Celebration, and we own... some of our best vacations are 5 minutes from home (48 million people a year can't be wrong...)

WOW! Living in celebration and owning DVC*** my hero!

:cool1: We also just moved here!

We are keeping some of our BWV points and selling the rest. That way we have points for out of town guests or ourselves for a mini-vacation.

I would try to get a vero beach or hilton head resale. You can still use it for wdw resorts if you want. You most likley would not stay at wdw during peak season which is when either of the beach resorts would be nice to have. Off season you can go to the parks and stay overnight with very little notice.

Hope to move there in a few years.

I would not buy Vero. That is where we own, and the mf is rediculous.

As nice as DVC rooms are, I still prefer my own house. If I could visit WDW during the day and go home to sleep in my own bed at night, that would be perfect. Wouldn't need DVC at all if I lived in Orlando. Jacksonville might be a different story, since it's not a short drive to WDW from there.

We have good friends that live in Orlando, it was one of the ways how I convinced DH to buy into DVC, although at the time we weren't married. I get to see Mickey, he gets to see his friend. :thumbsup2 We just got back from seeing them (and Mickey)last week and they are trying to get us to move to Fl. So it got me to thinking if I would keep it or sell??? I think maybe sell a few points, but keep some for out of town guests sounds like a good idea.

Wow, going from LA to Florida you are gonna think the real estate prices are so cheap, but for the rest of us they have gone through the roof! We lived in Jacksonville (dh's hometown) for many years and loved it. Family and friends are always trying to get us to come back to Florida, but, salaries have not come anywhere close to keeping up with the housing boom there. We have a huge house now in Texas, I have told dh I have no desire to move again.....famous last words LOL! To answer your question, I would probably sell our points and just visit a different deluxe for each weekend get-away....but that's just me!
