If we go to Sci-fi, we can just order milk shakes right?

I am not interested in eating there, but the atmosphere looks great, I was thinking we could stop in for shakes with our ADR...is that okay?

Milkshakes and appetizers would be fine, but it is a restaurant and I would not just order milkshakes.

I don't think they like guests to make ADRs for shakes alone. I read on here before that someone did that and the server was annoyed. I don't know what you should do, though. I understand wanting to see the Sci-Fi and only have the shakes but I don't think making ADRs is the way to do it.

I wouldn't do that..... it is a restaurant and you are taking away a reservation from other customers.

I was , however, considering making a reservation at LeCellier and just having a soda and the free breadsticks. I heard the breadsticks are delish! :goodvibes.... just kidding.

I've got to agree. I don't think milkshakes are enough to justify taking up an ADR or table. It's a full service restaurant, not a soda fountain.

If you really want to eat there, just go one day for burgers and shakes. Those are pretty good and not too expensive.

It's not something I would ever do. I would feel uncomfortable going to a TS restaurant and only ordering something to drink.

I wish they had a carryout window....I'd go and get the Reuben and the cheesecake LOL No one else in the family really cares for their food, although my husband will eat their appetizer dip and the bbq. I can't justify paying 200.00 for the whole family to eat there just so I get my Reuben though :(

Should patrons be required to order an entree plus one?

A "course" plus one sounds about right for me as enough justification to take up a table and ADR. This isn't the corner diner--it's a full-service meal at a resort.

I doubt they'll kick them out, but I could see them setting a table minimum or "entertainment fee" like they used to do at LTT if they get too many "tourists" coming through just to see the atmosphere.

Is a milkshake really a drink or is it a dessert?

On the Sci-Fi menu a milkshake is listed under drinks, not dessert, and I agree with them. Where I'm from (Florida) we often drink shakes with our sandwiches. I've never heard of eating a meal then ordering a milkshake for dessert, though I suppose it's not unheard of. The Sci-Fi menu doesn't list shakes on the dessert menu.

This is obviously a good discussion for a DIS Show! What is expected when you make an ADR at a TS restaurant? What is considered exceptable and what would be rude? If you order just an appetizer and drink then why not just dessert and coffee? PETE???? Any thoughts????

We have had very late ADRs at LeCellier (sometimes it's all we can get) and ordered just a bowl of soup and breaksticks, it's heavy enough to be a meal in itself and we don't want to eat a full meal with entree at 8:30-9pm. But I have to have my cheddar cheese soup fix! Sometimes we'll get a dessert to split too, sometimes not.

We always tell the waitperson upfront that it's a light meal for us, we tend not to linger and occupy a table they might need.

Would you go to a restaurant at home and just order a milk shake? The only place I might do that is an ice cream place like Friendly's. Other than that, I would never do that but that is just my opinion. Maybe split some appetizers and get a drink (shake)???

Not being snarky but as a matter of fact, yes we would and we have. DD6 loves Oreo shakes from Applebee's and on more than one occasion, we have stopped by with her just for shakes.

I don't think anyone has mentioned this possibility yet - how about just having a seat at the bar and ordering your milkshakes there?

I realize it's not exactly the same atmosphere as the restaurant, but I hear the bartenders are a lot of fun, and that way you wouldn't have any issues about taking up a table.

A party that orders only milkshakes certainly won't be occupying the seats for long. In that it's the only way to get in to Sci-Fi,and they do have milkshakes on the menu, I think it'd be fine.:earsboy:

I would feel uncomfortable ordering only drinks at a full serve restaurant but then I don't consider milk shakes desserts. YMMV of course.

Dh and I never order anything but one shake and some onion rings. Those are the only things on the menu that we want. We had an annoyed server once. Didn't bother us.

I'd never go to a sit down restaurant only for beverages. I'd definitely get a couple of appetizers or desserts to share as well and only go at an off meal time, like 3pm. I like to have a snack around the time anyway.

Does Sci-Fi have a bar? If there's a bar with seats, then I think it's totally fine to sit there and enjoy shakes.

I don't think it's appropriate in the restaurant itself. I wouldn't do it myself, at least.
