If we can DREAM it, we can do it! ..... another 30 day vacation Update 02/07

Most of those "beach communities" are only open from April to the end of October. They make their living from people enjoying the beach and when it gets too cold for beach touristm they close up shop and move in land. :goodvibes

That shop owner is really really sweet and tries very hard to make everyone feel welcome. She even remembered us from a previous visit and last time we decided that we had to do something for her, so we brought a few chocolate truffles. :thumbsup2

More coming up shortly .... I am typing the rest of the trip report at the moment. :goodvibes

Of course she remembered you Karin!!! You are pretty darn sweet! How nice of you to remember her...AND YAY for NEW MICKEY FOOD :goodvibes

I am sorry that I missed your send off to Italy. Very excited now to read all about it though. :cool1:

I always love your lunches or breakfasts in room. Simple...but looks delicious!

How nice of the gal to treat you to a bottle of Limoni. :goodvibes

The rest of the teaser pic have me popcorn::

Elaine, I am SO happy to hear that you are safe. Sorry about the internet and cell phone trouble, but at least you had power! :woohoo:
Tom and I watched the storm unfold on CNN and it was unbelievable! We were thinking about you all a lot, hoping that you would not be hit too badly.
Sorry to hear that you might lose your February or April break, so not fair. :(

Thanks Karin. We suffered nothing compared to what people are going through now. Houses and cars destroyed that live by the water. People having water in their houses that now have major damage. I spoke to Jeff and they are fine. They had power, but no internet service. Thought you would like to know that. We are only allowed 2 snow days, and it is not even winter yet. Teachers and kids have to go in 188 days, but Howie read in the paper today that they might let it slide this year. You are doing it again with the European scenery. Those coldcuts look delicious.

The food you bought looks sooo yummy!!Tonight I made salmon for the guys, was my first time cooking it in years and it turned out very good !!

No problem about the sendoff, Ann! We travel so much, it's easy to miss a trip. :lmao:
I just love all those meats and cheeses and even though we live so very close we cannot get the real stuff here, so stuffing our faces with yummies is part of the fun! ;)
More trip report and pics are coming up shortly. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the update on Jeff, Elaine! We were pretty worried about them. Especially since it was Molly's birthday and I sent her an e-card and they did not pick it up. But NO internet is something they can live with. I am so happy to hear that no one was hurt.
I really hope that they will not take away your February and April vacations, because everything had to close down because of a major disaster. Sounds so not fair.
Elaine, LOTS more pics of Italy to come. Hope you are going to enjoy them. :goodvibes

Italian food is very yummy, Rosie! And those lunch meats are wonderful, as are their rolls!
Glad to hear that your salmon turned out great! :thumbsup2

Italy October 2012

Day 1, October 26

Here we go again ……. - Part 2

Since we only had had a few bites for breakfast this was a wonderful lunch and we took our time and enjoyed everything.
Once we were done, we cleared the table and decided to go for a little walk to check out which shops were still open. We walked down the pedestrian area

DSC_0958.jpg

and we were stunned on how many shops were already boarded up for the winter. Only about half the shops looked like they were still open and some of them were already advertising their last day of business before the winter. Store hours were very limited and after a while we turned to the left and walked down to the beach.

All the umbrellas and beach chairs were gone. Most of the beach was boarded up and even though we never did find out why, we were sure it was to prevent the sand from blowing all over the town. I was fascinated at all the pine cones that were up in the trees

IMG_6871.jpg

IMG_6872.jpg

IMG_6873.jpg

and could not stop looking at them. We walked for quite a long time along the beach,

then turned right again and walked down towards the main street, the pedestrian area. Again we found that an awful lot of shops were already closed and now during lunch break everything else was closed too.
So we slowly walked back to our apartment and once we had returned we had some coffee and our doughnuts and watched a little TV. We were both so tired and even though we had joked about taking a nap lateron it sounded like a very good idea there and then. We took a nap, a rather longer one, as we slept for about two hours.
When we got up again it started to get dark and once we had gotten ready we headed out again, went for another short walk and explored the open shops before we decided to stop by a restaurant to have some dinner.
There were only very few guests in there and the ones that were there were Italians. We were quickly led to a table and handed a menu.

Tom ordered

some beer, while I stuck to Diet Coke, which again came in a slender can. There were a lot of pizza options and we both had a hard time deciding, but in the end Tom went for the

IMG_6884.jpg

Pizza Della Casa, Mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, porcini mushrooms, and ham. It looked delicious and tasted as good as it looked. I ordered an old favourite, the

IMG_6882.jpg

Pizza Capricciosa, tomatoes, Mozzarella, artichokes, ham and mushrooms. It is one of my all time favourites and it did not disappoint. Both pizzas were quite large and neither of us managed to finish it. When we were finally done we paid the bill and slowly walked back to our hotel. It was past 8pm when we returned and we decided to watch a little TV before we called it a night and went to bed early for a change.

Great updates, Karin. Glad you didn't hit any rain on the way down.

Those pizzas look very yummy.

Karin -
The food all looks yummy! Both the meats you had for lunch and those delicious looking pizzas! Every time I see a lunch you and Tom eat in your trip report of good bread and good meat my mouth waters!

Perhaps the boards on the beach could also be to protect the beaches from erosion during winter storms? Just a thought.

All caught up. I was in Disney World for a week and then I spent the last week working and trying to get caught up on the DIS.

I just have to say that I had the Pizza Capricciosa at Via Napoli while in Epcot and it looked just like the one your ordered and it was SO good. I really enjoyed it.

How nice that you just returned from another Italy getaway. How lovely.

I really enjoyed reading about and seeing all your pictures from Key West. The sand is SO incredibly white. I look forward to staying there some day myself. No wonder it was so hard to leave.

I love the cafe where you had dinner. Your food looks amazing. The trolley tour also looks pretty cool. White a nice start to your vacation.

I just love the food you have, especially the bread. I'm a big crusty bread fan, could eat it everyday!

It looks so sad there with winter coming on & evrything put away.:sad2:

It being autumn we had to keep the rain in mind, but were really lucky not to see any on the first day. ;) :thumbsup2 And you cannot beat REAL Italian pizza!

Part of our travels always revolves around food. ;) And since the weather wasn't cooperating too much, what are you supposed to do other than eat. :rotfl2:
That was our thought about the beaches too, but then parts were left open, so we really didn't know what to make of it. :confused3

Yeah! Welcome back!
Hope you enjoyed your trip to the WORLD. So jealous of you all that you are able to go for Food and Wine. ;)
Capricciosa is my favourite pizza and I usually get it whenever we have pizza. :lmao:

You would so love Key West! It definitely is such a beautiful place. We are so lucky to be able to go back there next summer.
It was the perfect start to our vacation and believe it or not, it even got better. :woohoo:

We love the Italian food, brings back lots of childhood memories.

You know, I quite like the town when it is so quiet. Usually a gazillion people is on that beach and you sometimes cannot even see the water with all the umbrellas, so it was a nice change for us. :goodvibes

Italy October 2012

Day 2, October 27

Is there a Disney Store in Venice? - Part 1

We woke up around 7am and when we looked out the window there was pouring rain.

IMG_6894.jpg

Since we had checked the weather report beforehand we had known that there most likely would be rain, but it really looked grim. The winds were strong as you could tell by the waves crashing and it was grey all around.

IMG_6889.jpg

IMG_6892.jpg

IMG_6890.jpg

DSC_0976.jpg

We got up, got ready and around 8am we walked over to the bakery to pick up some rolls and doughnuts for breakfast. Back in the apartment we brewed coffee

IMG_6899.jpg

IMG_6895.jpg

and tea and sat down to have breakfast

IMG_6896.jpg

IMG_6900.jpg

IMG_6901.jpg

and further discuss how to spend the day. Venice was one of the places we had been thinking about and after checking the weather and discovering that they projected some dry weather from 10am to 3pm, we decided we would give it a shot.
So after breakfast at around 10am we headed out the door and got into the car. Before we were driving to Venice we had one more spot we wanted to visit, the Terazza a Mare. We stopped right at the entrance and walked out onto the pier to watch the waves rolling in.

DSC_0038.jpg

It was really interesting as in all the years we had been going to Lignano as kids we had never experienced anything quite like it. We stayed for a few minutes to watch the sea and noticed how much further the waves rolled onto the beach than we had seen the day before.
After a few minutes we walked back to the car and off we went towards the motorway. Soon we had reached it, driving through more or less hard rain, picked up the ticket and went towards Venice.

IMG_6905.jpg

IMG_6906.jpg

IMG_6907.jpg

The drive takes about an hour and a half and was rather boring, but we had a lot to discuss concerning our upcoming vacations in Paris and then our next visit to Florida.
Soon we got to the toll station, paid and were soon crossing the long bridge into the city.

IMG_6908.jpg

IMG_6909.jpg

IMG_6910.jpg

IMG_6914.jpg

IMG_6916.jpg

IMG_6917.jpg

I had done some research beforehand and I knew there was a huge parking garage close to the bridge and this is where we wanted to park. Once we had reached the parking structure, there was a huge line out the door, but there was another sign pointing towards another lot. We decided to try the other lot and when we got close we were asked how long we intended to stay and then were pointed towards a garage on the right.
Lucky us were directed towards a parking space about 10 steps from the entrance and right across form the exit! Yippie, not far too walk. It was lightly raining at the moment and we took our umbrellas with us, but went back right after about 3 minutes to put them back into the car and take the folding umbrella instead. By the time we finally left the car there was only a very light drizzle and we both decided against using an umbrella. We walked across the Piazza Roma

IMG_6920.jpg

and considered using a water taxi to the Marcus Square, but then decided that the weather was nice enough to walk there.

Hi Karin! I was just looking at your Italy pics - so strange to have such a cold, deserted beach! The pizza looks worth the trip, though. :rotfl2:

Update for our February vacation! :thumbsup2

Today our window to book excursions and on board dining opened and I was able to snag

DSC_0699.jpg

Cabana 19 again :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

and booked

Palo brunch!
I also did online check in and scored an 11am arrival time at Port Canaveral. :woohoo:

Another step closer to our February vacation! :beach: :boat:

I can't sleep, so I figured I would play catch up.
Too bad about the rain, but it still looks beautiful.
yay for scoring palo brunch and early port time.
I woke at the crack of dawn today. My mind won't settle down, so I took a few walks inside and out here at the residence inn near the port. I saw the dream pull in about 20 minutes ago. I didn't get a good view though as she was already pretty far in.
I also saw either the biggest rat in the world or a armidillo. I sure hope it was the later.

You know..even in the rain. I love the beach pics. Maybe since its so empty. Oh and those pizzas..awesome..it is my lunchtime

Hmm the town here has limited food places with power..ill pretend I'm eating yummy pizza

So I am a million miles behind but I have finally caught up
It's just soooooo exciting when you can finally book your dining and excursions :)
I hope one day we can snag a cabana
