... will those points automatically show in our current DVC login once they are transferred to us, or will we have to wait for a letter w/ a member number for the new contract?

I know that they'll show as separate contracts, but that we can use the same login.. just wondering whether we'll need to wait that additional time for the letter to show to get to them.

As long as it is titled in the same way as your current contract(s), it will show up in your online account but it will be under the new membership number. It's been a while since I did this, but the points & membership number were in my account long before I got the welcome letter from DVC.
 
You will save a couple of days if you already have an existing account.

Ye you can have them under the same online account. My 2nd contract showed up there about a week before I received my info, however it showed as having zero points for about 3 days until it was fully recognized in the system. Total panic but it worked itself out!
 

thanks everyone!!! i like that it'll save us a few days.. i know it's not much but w/ how this process goes i'll take even a few days saved!

Know that you'll have to transfer from one contract to the other to combine the points for a single reservation.

yep! we're planning to mostly use them for separate trips, and an earlier use year will work better for the trips we plan to cover with this one. =)

Even if it's not titled the same, turns out it will still show up. Our first contract is owned by my wife and me. Our second contract is actually owned by a living trust, but the points still automatically loaded (different UY and resort).

Our points also transferred a little while before we got the letter, I think maybe a week or so. I should have checked the postmark, but maybe they send the letter the same day the load the account.
 
So my second contract showed up in my account Monday with no points. Had points by Tuesday afternoon. It's Friday and I haven't gotten anything in the mail yet.
