would WDW close and if so for how long? Just wondering!

I don't know the answer to your question but heard on television this morning the 3 areas the government is most concerned about are Orllando, New York City and Washington, DC. Annmarie

My understanding is that Red alert means we have been attacked. So, our response during 9/11 would be the best guide. Certainly not something to make light of. Did WDW close during 9/11?

Anniet was there during 9/11. I have forwarded this to her so maybe she can respond. Annmarie

I'm not so sure that red alert means we have been attacked. I think it is just the highest level warning. Yes, they did close the park on 9/11.

Disney closed all theme parks at about 11:00a.m. on 9/11.

Most guests spent the day at the pool, and there was a message left on the Voice Mail in our room later that day stating that Disney theme parks would operate at normal hours on 9/12, but I have to say most people left as soon as they possibly could and although flights weren't going out it was amazing how many people had relatives drive in to pick them up or rented cars or even U-Hauls to drive home.

Disney will only close for as long as they feel it is absolutely necessary. While I truly believe they would never put any of their guests in harms way, they have to be prudent because they lost a ton of money on 9/11 and have been losing more because of it.

By the way, they did hand each of us one day park passes as we evacuated the park.

Actually, I got that from a news report on CNN or Fox. With a search, here's what CNN reports:

Red: Severe Condition
Severe risk of terrorist attacks. In addition to the previously outlined protective measures, the following steps may be taken:
# Assigning emergency response personnel and pre-positioning specially trained teams
# Monitoring, redirecting or constraining transportation systems
# Closing public and government facilities
# Increasing or redirecting personnel to address critical emergency needs
